Just Getting Started

“Hi, I'm 22/f from Tennessee. I'm just getting into backpacking. Some friends took me to Savage Falls. (The same friends told me about this website.) Anyway, I carried the 40 pound backpack, did the whole nine yards. I found it be to amazing. I got the most magnificant feeling of freedom. I do feel this is something I could do every chance I had. We are planning a trip to Kentucky to see the Moonbow in November. I can't wait! If anyone has experienced this or has pictures, I would love to see them. So, as a Good-Bye, do you say "Happy Trails"? LOL. Kidding. Talk to you soon.”

My knees are giving me some trouble right now so we are doing some light hikes..this works great for breaking her in..WooHoo!!!”

sounds just like her mom. I think her first pack weight was over the 40 lbs that you carried. Also talk to her about the moonbow she has been there with that 40 lb pack.

“I feel for you trekkngirl - I had some knee trouble that caused me to bail on a solo loop hike near Catawba VA finally getting to feel OK but I am still wearing a knee brace for any hiking.

“Yeah, I got tired of shoveling snow every morning before work. But the summers are very nice. Most of all I missed my mom and the rest of my family.”

Mom and I were supposed to go on a hike today. But with her knees, the cold weather, and kinda rainy, We posponed it. :(”

“Ewker - I am still a maybe for that trip too. Would really like to go, but things have been unpredictable around here to say the least. Looks like I am going to have to work until 11pm that Friday, so if I do go, I will either be there in the middle of the night or early in the morning with no sleep.

If this one doesn't work out for everybody that wants to go, we should still work on a Savage Gulf trip or something. I am still going to try to sneak away at least for a day and do a canoe float on the Elk to get some good still water fall leaves reflecion pics after they are a bit closer to peak.

Trekkngirl, guitgrl - What part of TN are you in now? I am still in Middle TN for the time being; so if you guys make it to Fiery Gizzard or Savage Gulf, drop me a line....can make either one within an hour....packing time excluded of course;)”

Ewker..Guitgrl and I are going on an over nighter again tomorrow a few miles in..
If I do ok I may go to Mammoth..I have hiked nearly all those trails..the terrain is not strenous at all..she's not off on weekends though.. :(

But that being said, depending on the mood and/or hiking partners of the day, I travel anywhere from pretty fast to stopping to take pictures of everything. So going slow for an injured TT'er or a newbie with a 85lb pack;) is fine with me:)”
