Challenging the Man-Eating Mountain
by Richard Bangs
In the shadow of the most notorious rock wall in the Swiss Alps, John Harlin III contemplates the climb of his life the one that claimed his father 40 years ago.

One rope length from the White Spider, the last great defiance on the mountain wall that is one of the worlds deadliest, the 7 mm fixed line broke. John Harlin II, the first American to climb the legendary North Face of the Eiger in the Swiss Alps four years earlier, fell 4,000 feet into the void

Have you ever read Eiger Dreams by Jon Krakhaure? Great collection of short stories including his attempt at the Eiger.

I watched some of the video on Yahoo last night, pretty interesting. Seeing the gear they had in the flashback video reminded me of the Eiger Sanction, love that movie. I've also read Eiger Dreams, great book.

Eiger Dreams
Good suggestion Nigal. Yeah Ewker; definitely worth checking it out. The short story about being tentbound by the weather, and the qualities to look for in a tent partner is quite amusing and easy to relate to.

I still have no idea whether I am going to make the Mammoth trip, but if I do I will try to remember to pack it for ya.

I liked the story about his solo climb of the Devil's Thumb..."If I just had a fuking cigarrett I could think and everything would be alright." LOL! It's a great book on tape too. He has a good reading voice.
