I recently visited Congaree NP. Very cool, I say. Not much for elevation change tho.

hahaha, elevation change...what's that? you can't find that in Columbia. It's nice just to go there and see the swamp...but you ain't getting any climbs.

Hey you've got a lot more elevation change in Columbia than I do in all of Florida.

I'm 45 minutes from you odin. Jimh is right, the Foothills Trail is perfect. As a matter of fact I'm headed to the annual meeting of the Foothills Trail Conference tomorrow at Table Rock. Friday we will do a hike up Table Rock and Saturday there will be several hikes to choose from including a trail maintenance hike, which I will be on. Then Saturday night we will all gather for a meal in the "barn" and discuss upcoming events, repair needs, and listen to Bob Mancke of SCTV Nature Show. It's always a great time. Wander on up if you can, the weather is going to be perfect!

places
A in NC few hours from G'ville would take you to Mt Mitchell and the Black Mt crest, Shining Rock Ledge (Shining Rock and Middle Prong Wilderness. Also the Mountains to Sea trail (which parallels the Blue Ridge Parkway from Cherokee to Boone) from Shining Rock, past Mt Pisgah, around Asheville, to the Craggies and the Blacks. Also the Pisgah Ranger District between the parkway and Brevard and the Panthertown Valley.

In SC: closer your way is the Ellicot Rock wilderness and the FT (both on my list).

In Ga:the AT down around Dicks Creek Gap and Bartram trail.
