Nice, spindle is coming if her foot heals and I've got one or two maybes from 'the other side.'

I'll be on the AT for five days before turkey too . . . gonna be a good week!

I may be in. I have the Mt Rogers trip, but I'd love to go.

I am a "maybe" a section of the AT, but this trail is closer. Hmmm, so are we to hike the whole 32 in the snow, or what? I have no idea what to expect anymore. I haven't leved "up north" in so long I never know when to expect the snow.

rain, shine, snow . . . I'm doing the whole trail. I've been living in PA for five years now and I've only seen one significant snowfall so I'm not too concerned. Just dress warm.

I am from Erie and I have had plenty of Thanksgivings in feet of snow with the roads closed. Either way, it is a great trail to hike, so I guess it doesn't matter. Erie seems to be in another world at times, so I thought I'd ask.

I'm from Buffalo so I know what your erie snow is like. I'm sure there's a good possibility of snow on the WRT this time of year but I'm not cancelling my trip because of it. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Do recommend bringing snowshoes? I don't own any and am errign towards nto gettign any until I can rent some and try them out to se ewhcih ones I like. There are some big differences between the Tubbs and the MSR shoes, blah, blah, blah. I am kind of lookign for an excuse to need some. Else I would just "post hole" as I have heard it. I am looking forward to it.

Any idea when you would actually start? Depending on when I would break off from the family, I could meet up at the start or join you from the Mid State trail or something. Let me know when you have a plan.

You said you were tempted by the OLP, but have your other trips. Well, my OT came in and so I earned a little extra time off. And i can use it to join the small army forming for the Mt Rogers trip. I think I'll head south to meet the folks and pull the OLP trip for now. I will schedule the OLP again some time.

Snowshoes
Wasn't really planning on bringin mine but we'll see what the weather forecast looks like. Worst case scenario they can probably be rented at Pine Creek Outfitters.

I'll update the itinerary sometime next week once I decide on a direction, but I'd like to start ouot fairly early on Friday morning.

"fairly early on Friday morning" is the terminology that makes me wonder when I would need to leave Erie. That's where I'll be gorging this year. I don't want to screw up your plans, so I'll post as a "maybe" for now until the details form up.

It's a 3+ hour ride for me but I'd like to try to start hiking by 9:00. If you have the maps and we tell you where we're going to camp you can probably hike in from the middle and cut your Friday hike short. I'm sure we can shuttle you back to your car. My trip planning is always lose and usually pretty flexible.

Sounds great. We are eating late on T-Day, so leaving at 5 AM is iffy. I have done it before, though.

So yeah - if I know where you are camped I can catch up no problem. It is an easy trail to follow, even at night. I will just need to decide if I will jump on at the mid-state trail or from the start (I imagine).

I guess I'd also need to know if you are going north to south or south to north.

Sounds like a plan.

Pixie--Come on down! It will be a mild change in altitude and climate for you . . . not sure Coolio is built for this tho.

PhantomSoul--I can't promise you any licking, but it hop on the trip. GreenMonkee said he was thinking about it too.

there are very nice campsites on the creek 1.5 north on the Midstate Tr. You may have to get fire permits from Pine creek outfitters in Ansonia. They have guide books. But, yous prolly already know that : )

I'll have to read my guidebook to see if we are still in the fire restriction season. I usually just look at the pictures...

Under the advice of the guy at Pine Creek Outifitters I called the Beureau of Forestry in Wellsboro and they said point to point backpackers do not need permits. So it's all good!

I'll post my intended itinerary this weekend.

For those of you still considering joining this hike please let me know your status by a week from Friday as I will be out backpacking and technologically/communicably challenged.

I'm not trying to play "hard to understand", but i am anxiously awaiting some snow. That said, I will not know for sure until the night before. I don't pay much attention to long range forecasts, so I don't know what they have to say about the chance of snow blah, blah, blah. Are you bailing if no one can commit? If so, I would sure want to know before driving to Welsboro. I am done with solo trips for this year.

Once I know if you are traveling north to south or vice versa I can tell you where I can be and at what time. Patsquach hike trail in May, have guide and map. There are plenty of places to jump on. So if I miss you at the start I can catch up on the route.

If there is mucho snow, I'll be at Wilderness Lodge baby, yeah!!

Mister Granola, sir...

What time are you thinking about heading out on Friday? I'm coming up from DC, so I'm trying to figure out scheduling, etc...

I *may* drive up there on Turkey eve just to make sure I'm there in time but we'll see about that one.

ok, let me know what route you decide on. i have a map of the trail here actually - from the last time I was up there.

if jack isn't going or wants to drive on his own, i'll make it a point to be up there early as well - especially since we have so little daylight left at this time of the year.

I'm in.

BTW It is smooth sailing from 18 to 16, so I vote for shooting towards the camp sites along the rim just north of Bradley Wales. There will be no wood for easy pickin (popular spots) and the wind may be pretty #&%!$in, but the views are the best and you can walk a few hundred yards for potable water at the well. Eh??? Bring a headlamp if we don't have enough moonlight. What will be the cycle next week? Full, new, cheezy?

I can say that I do miss my friend Jim Beam. We were close unitl Mr. Jameson came along. Even as a heter-opportunistic-sexual, I can still say that they were men I loved. Ole Jim came out with "The Traveler" in the early 90's, which was a plastic bottle. Ingenious invention by people who get drunk and break their glass bottles for people who like to get drunk and do not want to break their glass bottles. What'll they think of next?

I'll stick with mi amigo Jose. He's been so good to me, helped me through many a bad night, helped me to more than a few good ones. We go a long way back. Bless his soul.
