Interesting pasta "cooker"View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 8 of 8 messages posted.
boil-n-rehydrate method to cook pasta “I know bpers do this all the time with various sealable containers (I use a Country Tyme lemonade container). Neat to see the technique move into the home kitchen. This might even be usable on the trail if it isn't heavy, and it probably isn't. I'd need to find a "dual use" for it though. http://www.treehugger.com/files/2005/10/perfetto_pasta.php” 7:57:19 AM 10/28/05 “Depending on what the lid is like, or if you can get another id without the strainer, then water bottle springs to mind. Does this mean you could cook pasta with boiling water and a nalgene though?” 8:36:10 AM 10/28/05 “I've cooked pasta with boiling water and a Nalgene.” 8:53:55 AM 10/28/05 “The Platypus bladders claim to be boilable, but I've never tried it with mine. I guess you could do this with a wide-mouth zip-type Platy, just like a Nalgene.” 9:21:50 AM 10/28/05 Tech... “Yes it does...try THIS though...fill the platy with cool water and the pasta, then slide the platy into a pocket close to your body...hike on down the trail....body heat will cook the pasta...you can heat the mix if it's not hot enough for you, at greatly reduced fuel use. I used this method many many years in Special Forces, eating what were then known as LRRPS (Long Range Recon Patrol's) basicly dehydrated rations in plastic bags.” 9:33:30 AM 10/28/05 “doesnt't the pasta need to be cooked first and then dehydrated thoguh??? theres a BIG difference between cooking pasta and just rehydrateing it.” 9:56:04 AM 10/28/05 Body heat.... “water rehydrates, the body heat cooks it...(My idea)...for the above.... you pour in BOILING water. last edited: 10/28/05 9:58:56 AM” 9:57:11 AM 10/28/05 “aha, i see. i ask because I once made the grave error of simply trying to rehydrate uncooked pasta. it was gross.” 10:06:27 AM 10/28/05
