“There doesnt seem to be much doubt that the Dems plan to run Hillary in '08. She's a force. Many of the fence-sitters would vote Democrat simply because she's a woman and she's a Clinton. The Republicans would be hard pressed to find someone to run against her that would effectively offset the popularity of Hillary. I think the exception to that notion is Condi. She would take most of the gender-driven fence sitters. Condi would take a large portion of the black community, though certainly not all. More than any other Republican candidate in both of those catagories, as well as the minorities in general I would say.

Personally I think that anyone the Repulicans run against Hillary will lose. Except Condi, I think Condi Rice would crush Hillary. And thats just looking at the surface, as so many voters do. Thats just talking in terms of voters who vote for shallow reasons rather than actual issues. I would venture to say that the majority of US voters dont bother to scratch deeper than the surface when making a decision.

“Politicians are never truly held to "will you run for blah blah" words like that. They know it, and therefore when put on the spot like that its easiest to just say that you wont run or whatever the question is, and avoid the whirlwind that would result from anything else. Condi may indeed not run, but her claim that she would not shouldnt be given all that much weight IMO.

She's extremely bright and savvy, but still very young and much of her personal politics is very much unknown. That could hurt her in ways, many of the less shallow voters would gravitate toward Hillary over Condi since they would at least know what they are getting over there. Personally I'd like to believe that Condi would be far and away a better alternative to Hillary Clinton, but honestly I dont know nearly enough about Condi's philosophy and politics to be totally sure. That unsurety, and her youth, will be difficult for her to overcome. Otherwise it would be a slam dunk.”
