Problem with the Canon G6

OK, so I've had the REFURBISHED Canon G6 for 2 weeks.

I grabbed it Saturday to take pictures, it wouldn't come on. I try the extra battery in the case. It wouldn't come on. I then went into work and grabbed the battery that had just charged overnight on the in-outlet, specific G6 charger. It wouldn't come on.

As mentioned, a charger came with it. I also have the old charger for the G5 at home, which would allow a person to charge the battery in-camera. You can't do this with the G6, BUT... you can use that as a 9V power adapter and run the camera off it.

So I plugged that into the camera -- without a battery being in -- and it came on.

SOOOOO... am I just missing something obvious???!? I'm putting the batteries in the right way. While I had two batteries on hand, so perhaps they could be charged out (but not likely, cuz one, an offbrand, was purchased around March). BUT I also have the battery that came with the camera and it should be new.

I want to feel I've explored all possible clues/solutions to the problem before sending it back under its 6-month warranty.

Could it be that it would work on the 9V plug and not on batteries -- and that it be a camera and not a battery problem?

That may be the very reason it is "refurbished". I would try both batteries fully charged one more time, and if neither works, send it back.

Talked to Canon. ANOTHER refurbished G6 is expected by Thursday. They were very good. Noted the problem, camera serial number and said another would be on the way.

Love the G6! Hope to find a refurbished one that's happy and loving and working. :-)

I'd send it back
I used to really like re-furbished mechanical parts for auto's. It usually meant that the items were rebuilt by hand to unusually high quality. When I started buying refurbished electronics, my experience has been re-packaged & re-sold at discount. Same problems. I'd send it back & they'll prob exchange for another that you might have better luck with.

I bought a 'brand new' video card once only to find that they had evidently re-shrink-wrapped a returned item, which only too obviously bore signs of over-heating, burnt traces, and deinstallation with extreme prejudice, i.e. the metal plate at back was bent as if they had not bothered to unscrew it before pulling it out. The store evidently had the ability to put new shrinkwrap on it, making it look factory-sealed.

Oh no, there was no mislabeling here. You haven't been following my camera problem threads, how I dropped my G5 and could upgrade to a refurbished G6 for $299 (is a $499 camera and 7 MP)... and send my broke one back.

Canon's been good so far...... Yeah, I'm slightly worried buying refurbished, but hey, it's 7 MP! lol... And it has a 6-month warranty.
