Filibuster Part of Secret Kerry Plan for 2008

(2006-01-27) — A spokesman for Sen. John Kerry’s government-in-exile in Switzerland today said that the Massachusetts Democrat’s threatened filibuster of Judge Samuel Alito’s Supreme Court confirmation is part of Sen. Kerry’s secret plan to position himself as “the party’s strong second choice in 2008.”

While Democrats wondered, and Republicans jeered, at the apparently futile filibuster effort, the senator’s spokesman said “no one should underestimate Sen. Kerry. It would be very difficult to do so.”

The unnamed spokesman said that the man who lost his 2004 presidential bid by a mere 3.5 million votes has a detailed plan that will bring him within several hundred delegates of capturing the next Democrat presidential nomination. Staging a failed filibuster attempt, the source said, “is just one shrewd tactic in a brilliantly-conceived strategy by a man who knows something about strategy and tactics from his days as a Navy swift boat commander in Vietnam.”

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-MA, who joined the filibuster effort, is reportedly on Sen. Kerry’s short list of potential running mates.

“Ted Kennedy has what it takes to jump in, should anything happen to Kerry, and to rapidly assume his duties as Hillary Clinton’s understudy,” the source said, “Both men are ready to take the lead if Mrs. Clinton gets struck by a meteorite, contracts the ebola virus, decides not to run in 2008 or in any of the other equally-likely scenarios.””

Sheehan Threatens Feinstein

Anti-war activist and moonbat-to-the-extreme Cindy Sheehan has informed Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA.) that she will run against her in the upcoming election unless Feinstein filibusters Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito.

Sheehan, who was in Caracas, Venezuela Friday attending the World Social Forum, heard that several Democrats planned to filibuster Alito but that Feinstein, who is up for re-election in November, announced that she will vote against Alito but would not filibuster the nomination.

"I'm appalled that Diane Feinstein wouldn't recognize how dangerous Alito's nomination is to upholding the values of our constitution and restricting the usurpation of presidential powers, for which I've already paid the ultimate price," Sheehan said in a statement.

There are reports out from Fox News which claim that Feinstein’s ‘people’ are now saying that Diane is calling for the filibuster, but that Sheehan had nothing to do with Di-Fi doing the flip-flop. Just a few days ago Feinstein said she would not filibuster Alito’s nomination.

Not just because it was Clinton's DOJ that chased Microsoft during the anti-trust years, but also because Clinton's plans seem so much more global than to be tied down as CEO of any company, even a giant like Microsoft. Even the last part of the entry which states Clinton could be visiting Redmond for a seat on the Board seems sketchy, the ex-Prez has always seemed to have more ties to Larry Ellison than Gates & Co. And if Ballmer was unimaginably considering leaving his CEO post, Redmond might as well go all the way and recruit Janet Reno to fill the position.”

There are some rumors circulating that Steve Ballmer is about to step aside at Microsoft as its day to day operations head to make room for another president. Ken and I reported on this on KenRadio's World Technology Roundup earlier today.

Sources near Microsoft headquarters report that over the past few months the ex cigar smoking prexy has made trips to Microsoft headquarters and has been interviewing for the top slot as the company looks at ways to transform themselves for the future. Given the global implications of technology, having a leader that is an ex country president would be massive.

Why now? Well Ballmer has driven the company. His hard charging sales leadership style helped Microsoft during a time when that approach was needed. But Microsoft folks I've talked to admit those days are over and a new style is needed to be more change oriented.

Given Clinton's global stature and statesman status just imagine the possibilities of what that would mean to Microsoft.

But this is only a rumor now, and no one at Microsoft would dare to comment on this one, so why bother asking...if true, you can say you read it here first.

UPDATE--Some readers and other sources say Bill's visits to Redmond have had more to do with being on the Microsoft board than anything else...stay tuned.”
