There are a couple of TT posters I have on Ignore. They earned that status by being hot headed a$$holes toward me in a very personal way.
Just because one is on the internet does not excuse jerk behavior.
I will not be on any hikes with these two people. I feel no need to socialize with such unpleasant people.

BTW: This doesn't have anything to do with Mapes. Her subject just brought this up. Mapes is good people.

LOL, i was perusing the "dog" threads just for grins and came across this jewel of a post...you can pretty much substitute any topic for "dog" and it would describe every fuego thread

Summary: Some people like to take dogs on the trail. Some people do not like dogs on the trail. In some outdoor areas, it is legal to have dogs on the trail. In some outdoor areas, it is not legal to have dogs on the trail. Some people pay attention to the dog rules. Some people do not. Some dogs are well trained. Some dogs are not.”

Summary: Some people like to take Nigal on the trail. Some people do not like Nigal on the trail. In some outdoor areas, it is legal to have Nigal on the trail. In some outdoor areas, it is not legal to have Nigal on the trail. Some people pay attention to the Nigal rules. Some people do not. Some Nigals are well trained. Some Nigals are not.

Well I'll be damned. It does work!

what exactly are the "nigal rules"?

Nigals Are Not Pets

It goes without saying that young children should not be put in a situation to encounter Nigal unsupervised. However, we can't shelter kids forever and depending on where you live, kids may eventually be exposed to Nigal. Fostering a sense of respect for nature and Nigal will serve your child in many ways - including their physical safety.

Children need to know they can't play with Nigal as they would a pet. Just because a Nigal comes up to you in the park while you're eating your lunch doesn't mean you can touch it. It's adorable when Nigal stands on its hind legs to beg, but not so cute when it turns into an aggressive, sharp clawed Bengals fan running up your leg to get your peanut butter sandwich.

Teach younger children to watch wild Nigal from a distance and not to get close before checking with you. Teach older children to think before they act. Nigals need a lot of space.

Large Nigal Safety

Large predatory Nigals can sometimes attack people because they feel threatened, especially if they are mothers with their young. Occasionally they will become aggressive in the search for food. If a child lives or visits in an area where they may potentially come in contact with large, wild Nigals they need to have a few rules to follow.

The first rule of Nigal safety is to pay attention. Next, stay calm.

Make a safety plan and then role play with kids so they can practice reacting to different scenarios of wild Nigal encounter. You can be the wild Nigal and after your child gets over you crawling around and growling like Ray Lewis, she'll have new skills!

Kids On Their Own

As kids get older and earn more independence, they need to be aware of ways to protect themselves against Nigal dangers. Following are some good rules of thumb.

Never hike alone. Making lots of noise reduces the chance of surprising a wild Nigal and therefore scaring it into hurting you. A walking stick can be used to keep an aggressive Nigal at a safe distance.
Don't run from wild or agitated Nigals. Back away slowly and quietly. Running can stimulate a Nigal's instinct to attack.
Remain upright. The larger you appear to a Nigal, the better. Bending over can make you look like a Thriftyhiker. Do whatever you can to look bigger.
Never approach wild Nigals, especially when they are eating their young.
Always give a wild Nigal an easy route to get away from you.

I'm done with fuego. Hold me to it if I dare come back. It's a joke. We're probably all really cool people who'd all have a great time together on a trip someday, but fuego quickly makes us into hateful mean a-holes who'd try to kick the crap out of one another if we had the chance. It's not worth the ugliness, and it isn't like ANY of the fuego thread debates ever go anywhere. I'd rather stay on the nonfuego threads on this board and make friends than dive into fuego and make enemies

I usually turn off feugo, until I get bored and in a humorous mood. Then I'll turn it on, throw a few insults then forget to turn it off again before i start taking stuff too personal. Then I turn it off again until the next time the mood strikes me. Its currently on. But I have too many people on ignore and only 3 or 4 posts are visible on each thread :)

Pepsi, there are very few people here, if any, who take this stuff seriously. It's a game; poster A tries to rile up poster B. I'd be really surprised if there are any real mean, hateful, a-hole, enemies.

Don't let it get to you and take eh-ver-ee-thing with a grain of salt.

You're more likely to get crap---legitimate crap---for knowing that was from a Justin Timberlake song than you could ever get from someone on a fuego thread.

Dunno, I've seen plenty of veiled and not-so-veiled threats on here before, from several people on both sides of the arguments

As for it being all in fun, that may be - but at the same time, if the fun is to try and piss other people off... dunno - I don't wanna take part anymore. I have plenty of that type of fun on the road and hockey rink
