You might just have conjunctivitis that results in inflamed, dry eyes. I get it a lot from chronic dry eyes. Systane is about the best artificial tears sold today and it works well. Use that after you do some lid hygiene by using eye compresses with luke warm water (not hot) for 5 minutes on each eye. Then mix one capful of Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo with 5 capfuls of water. Moisten a Q-tip with the shampoo mixture and gently scrub the upper and lower lids along the eyelash base. Rinse eyelids in warm water. Then use the Systane eyedrops.

Hopefully, you won't, just be careful and use a mirror. The eye hygiene helps clean out the gunk that conjunctivitis causes. That stuff irritates the eye and you have to get rid of it before you put the drops in. Do it morning and night while your eye is flaring up. It should go away in a couple of days. That recipe is what my eye doctor told me to do. I had dry eyes so bad a couple of times I had to use steroid eye drops to calm the inflammation down and even the eye wash and Systane didn't work. If it gets that bad go to the eye doctor.

Hey SC

I had it when I was 24. The itching started one morning and three days later my left eye was inflamed and red - bad. I went to a physician's office, and he gavee me some drops. Three or four days later, if I remember rightly, it was gone. But yeah, I felt like that too.

You work in a hospital, right? From what I understand pink eye is a form of staph, and there's sometimes staph around hospitals. Staph is serious - especially in the eye, so don't put off seeing your doctor, if you think that's what it is.

Good health to you.

P.S. miss your stream-of-consciousness posts.
