Feelings of guilt for maiming my cat.

I had my Cat declawed. Everyone was telling me I should have it done, especially after seeing the holes in one of my leather dining room chairs.. I was still hesitant about having it done, but I took her in to get her spade so I told them to declaw her while they had her. I brought her home wednesday and she slept all day and night. Yesterday she was walking around the house hobbling around on her mangles front paws and I started feeling guilty watching her. Last night she was laying beside me sleeping and she started stretching and started sliding off the bed. She went to grab the bed with her claws and just slid off the bed and landed on the floor. My poor kitty :(

Did you laugh at her as she hit the floor?

That REALLY pisses them off!

Just wait until she learns how to use the set of claws on her hind feet.

Why didn't you have the large, dog-shaped tumor removed from her shoulder as well?

opps....thought that would be censored.....

Guilt is when you have to remove what's left of kitty after you crank your truck up on a cold morning while she's sleeping on top of the fan belt.

Is that the same dog you dressed up like a chicken? You should feel a lot of guilt over that!.

not a big fan of declawing, cats come with claws, live with it. But it's done now I guess.

Sleep with one eye open.
The good news is that cats have no conscience. If it can figure out a way to cut off all of YOUR fingertips, it will feel no equivalent remorse.

Mine doesn't mess up the furniture. She is a very well behaved girl. However, I would never have leather. When cats lose their balance, their claws come out to grab hold. Leather furniture and cats are not a good match.

She doesn't hard any of the other furniture but the leather. When the jumps on the leather the claws come out to keep her from sliding off.

Exactly. You can hardly fault her for that. She's not trying to be destructive...
But you got the leather before you got her... So what can you do?

Tripod doesn't like people hotlinking their pics.

You could originally see it because it was in your browser cache. Now it's not.

hmmm declawing?

you could have gone to petsmart and for 5 bucks bought a set of nail tips.

they are plastic tips that go on the nails. they last about 3 months and you can do it yourself. she is an indoor cat right?

Mapes, softpaws are a rip. You have to pin the cat down and superglue those little f----rs to each claw, then hold the animal still until the glue sets. Once set, the animal will immediately begin pulling all of the softclaws off. I tried this for a year with Pinky, and I ended up having him declawed. He flopped around on his feet for about a week, but was okay after that. The purple superglue the vet used to seal all his toes was pretty funny too, since Pinky is a pure white cat.

I'm with You
I had the Doctopus declawed after he began destroying my new area rug. He has been neutered (to which nobody seems to object) and is missing 3 in. of his tail (a close encounter with a fanbelt). He's earned the name Doc. After declawing he suffered for a while, but he's still alive, beating out the alternative. He's developed a mean right cross and is very good at holding on with the front and tearing a new one with the rear. I'd do it again if necessary. He goes outside at will and does not suffer at the claws of the numerous neighborhood cats. We all suffer some form of disfigurement in order to be acceptable to, and gain the "benefits" of, civilization.

very good points. I had no idea about how hard it would be to put them on. LOL I had visions of fish flopping around!

Trailburn that is a pretty darn strong cat you have...

Dr.Bob, my ex-cat, could still climb trees after being declawed, though not as good as before. My daughter is more of a "cat's rights" person than I, believing that declawing is unthinkable. I still have two nice rips in my carpt from when she lived here...

It's not the damaged shoes, carpet and furniture I was concerned with. It's all the scars I still have from he was still a kitten nearly 8 years ago. Pinky plays rough.
