Winterfest 2006 is happening!
Dust off your skis and snowshoes, start stocking up on the Hot Damn, we be partying!

We are currently planing to be up there from the night of the 29th, through the first. Those dates may be extended a day or so, but right now thats the plan.

We are planing to have it at Silver Snag in Lassen again, but we are keeping the option open of moving camp to Mt Shasta if there is not enough snow coverage.

Silver Snag is 2 miles in, the spot on Shasta is about a mile in.

I will get the trip officially posted by tomorrow night, I am working on that now.

We need to get Sandy to start dancing....must have more snow!!”

OK, I'm coming again. We are currently getting a big dump of snow here in WA. All the ski areas are open and we are supposed to get another 1-2 ft this weekend. So, I hope some snow dumps on Lassen.

Become one with the snow.

Make snow your friend.

Snow is good for Spirit Coyote.

*trying to think of more crapola to say about snow*

Well I'll leave you with lyrics by Irving Berlin:

Snow
It won't be long before we'll all be there with snow
Snow
I want to wash my hands, my face and hair with snow

Snow
I long to clear a path and lift a spade of snow
Snow
Oh, to see a great big man entirely made of snow

Where it's snowing
All winter through
That's where I want to be
Snowball throwing
That's what I'll do
How I'm longing to ski
Through the

Snow
Those glist'ning houses that seem to be built of snow
Snow
Oh, to see a mountain covered with a quilt of snow

What is Christmas with no snow
No white Christmas with no snow
Snow

I'll soon be there with snow
I'll wash my hair with snow
And with a spade of snow
I'll build a man that's made of snow
I'd love to stay up with you but I recommend a little shuteye
Go to sleep
And dream
Of snow

tempting, eh

Last years winterfest was my first overnight snow camping experience. Oops, I mean "Winterfest" - have to capitalize, it's a proper noun in here!

I loved it! I probably did about 5 overnight solo and 2 group trips following last winter alone. I've been dying to start winter trekking again this year.

You'll love it - free your mind!

I'd love to go again! The last trip was surreal at best, lol! Did you get the teepee fixed Mtn. Steve? I have a steady g/f now, and she isn't much of a camper..... maybe next year, but I will run it by her.

Take care brother!

I'm dating someone new now, but I'm going to be very up-front about my passions. Women never win when their love is in competition with the mountain.

If I didnt have a big trip planned for next year, I might have come. maybe next year :)

Hey BB, sounds like life has been good for ya, glad to hear that. It would be great to see you both one of these days... when it's right it will happen.

The Tipi took a little tape, OK a lot of repair tape but she's as good as new. I replaced a couple stakes too. That trip was a little surreal...you were quite sick, the weather hammered, Susan was one of the few that had more fun than she could stand...she loved the "epic" nature of it. That trip out was the longest damn 2 miles of my life..LOL

Later my friend.

Steve... yep, that was my first last year. In case you didn't notice, I was the last dump on the right at the end of main street. I was surviving the storm in my 10 year old Kelty dome tent. I did have to get up a few times to prevent the walls from collapsing (and the dome).

I had a great time and met some fantastic people. My new girlfriend already knows that I have plans New Years. She also knows she's welcome to join me - that may be a far cry but who knows.

I better warn her about the purple *%^$#! Not like there's anything wrong with that!

Oh, sorry... digressing back to the 80's hair band days with a quote from "Ratt". LOL

Now I know who Kilgore Trout it! I didn't recognize the name! Trout, this year - just come out of your tent before 2pm the next day so we know you're still alive!

I'm hoping to be a little more "aerobic" this year. Last year, ladyhiker and I went to Castle Crags to snowshoe, but it was raining at the lower elevation.

I have her e-mail somewhere - let me see if I can find it and drop her a message.

Kilgore Trout = nihilist
Hey, I was up for about 32 hours straight! I had an excuse for sleeping in. *grins* That and the adult beverages.

I hope to be there the entire time, skiing and snowshoeing. Maybe I'll see how high up the slopes of Mt Lassen I can get. Wanna join me? I wish I had new backcountry skis, then I would really be set.

PS: I forgot my password to my other logons so it was just easier to get a new screen name that to file the paperwork.

I'd be glad to join you. Last year, I did a few miles of snowshoeing but basically up the road to Bunny Flat which was unplowed past our cars.

I'd really like to put some miles in this year.

Good news, bad news
The good news is there is snow at 8,000'...

The bad news is Silver Snag is at 6,500'.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I took this about 3 hours ago, from Loomis Peak. The snow at 8,000' was about 4"/6". Thats Lassen Peak in the background.

We will know more about using Shasta as our backup in a week or two. The spot on Shasta I want to use, if we need to move, is not where we were last year. It's on the way up to Horse Camp (Sierra Club Hut)

Well, I think we could probably wait till December 14th to make a decision to move to Shasta. But I'll let you make all final decisions as you are much more familiar with the area.

Anyway, We haven't got any new snow here in WA in the last few days, so i am hoping for more white stuff soon. All the ski areas are open here. I'd be glad to loan you some snow, but you would have to promise to pay it back.

Nice picture. Is that Frankie there?

Take care - Kilgore Trout

I went Geocaching today here in the Sac valley. Wore a tank top and got sunburned. REALLY! I think it was 76 at least. WTH? Isn't it November? Although, Last weekend I went snow camping and it was freezing and about 2 feet of snow. We're in T-R-O-U-B-L-e. LOL,, isn't that a song? P.S. Did I spell that right? He HE!

Last Saturday Oldtimer and I found weather in the 70's in the lower Cascades. Awesome day. We had plenty of snow the prior 2 weekends. Oldtimer and I thought we would check out the snow and weren't prepared to plow through over a foot of snow with no snowshoes. The next weekend I went up to Mt Hood and lots of snow up there. We haven't had snow for over a week now, but rain is in the forecast for the lower areas, so maybe snow in the mountains for Thanksgiving weekend. I'll help Sandyann with her snow dances. I'll be carefull with the Hot Damn when I'm dancing though.. :-) And by the way... YES! I'll be there to help ring in the New Year! Kilgore - when it gets closer lets see about the carpool or driving down at the same time.
