I can live with that, It's just that, Once again, I despise the "anyone can be anything" mentality. It's a nice ideology but it doesn't work like that in reality.” 12:28:49 AM 5/08/06 “She works for Kmart now. it was her best option. She's not treated well. She really has no other options. 1. What do you mean "she's not treated well"? That could mean a lot of different things. If they are taking advantage of her, I'm talking legal issues here, then she does have options. 2. One option that many forget is to adjust one's way of thinking.... their attitude or expectations, if you will. Unfortunately, sometimes in life we have to do that. We may start out thinking we're going to be president of our own company & retire a gazillionairre at age 28, but then the harsh realities of life set in and we realize that as long as we're healthy & able to earn a reasonable living that maybe life is OK after all! In the case of your female friend, maybe life isn't what she had planned for or hoped for because of her husbands untimely passing, but that doesn't mean she can't have a happy, productive & meaningful life just because she works at K-Mart & isn't independently wealthy. Money isn't everything.” 12:34:58 AM 5/08/06 “yeah BM, a generation ago her family would have taken care of her. BM, you are right that some people can't better their situation, but those are people that have either mental or physical handicaps that prevent them from bettering their life. People are offered free education, yet so many people take it for granted. People are offered jobs, but don't think you actually have to provide the employer with effort and performance. They have the "just pay me and STFU' attitude, then wonder why they don't get promoted.” 6:52:33 AM 5/08/06 “Wanderer, life not being fair, as Roam pointed out, is a true fact, unfortunately (more for some than others). And, I go along with what you said except for this point. I think you made a blanket assumption here. You just don't like the fact that someone isn't going to pay minimum wage with benefits when the employee doesn't deserve it / hasn't earned it. Do you see where this statement is a bit of a stretch??” 7:26:56 AM 5/08/06 ““My point is that walmart is a business magnet, not a business destroyer.” When we got our Walmart there was an old strip mall there that couldn’t sell a lease to save it’s life. Walmart started building and all of a sudden the empty strip mall is completely leased out.” 7:30:58 AM 5/08/06 ““Does anyone here know any Walmart employees?” Yes, I have a friend who works there and she makes good money and has a chance to move up into management. She likes it there.” 7:31:14 AM 5/08/06 ““Everyone is so in love with the low prices they don't even stop to think of how much better the economy would be if walmart payed their employees $1 more an hour, they have enough money to do it, it's not like they are poor. They just have their heads so far up their A** with greed they don't care about anyone but themselves.” So who are we to try and say what a company HAS to pay? Walmart pays above (sometimes well above) the minimum wage for unskilled labor. Do we not live in a free country where business is able to run itself? We need more freedom, not more intrusion into free business markets.” 7:31:31 AM 5/08/06 “I see a trend here. People who know walmart employees aren't walmart haters, people who don't know any walmart employees think all walmart employees are illegal aliens or uneducated rednecks who can't think for themselves.” 7:34:44 AM 5/08/06 “Bottom line; don’t like some place? Don’t shop there. Beyond that don’t try to do the popular thing and try to make others feel bad for doing something you don’t like. Freedom means having to put up with other doing some things you don’t like. It’s so sexy and “in” to hate Walmart but stop and think about how Walmart comes in on the scale of importance in the world. Have any of you guys written or taken action on behalf of the people who are sold into slavery or killed through genocide in the Sudan? Have you guys done anything to address the hunger in your own communities? Have you done a single thing to help anyone less fortunate than your self? Walmart comes in very low on my personal list. But hey, it’s the popular thing to do. It’s the Haliburton of the retail world. And gosh darn it, it just makes a person feel good to think they are doing something...even if it's doing nothing at all.” 7:37:29 AM 5/08/06 ““I see a trend here. People who know walmart employees aren't walmart haters, people who don't know any walmart employees think all walmart employees are illegal aliens or uneducated rednecks who can't think for themselves.” EXACTLY! I have seen some of the haters here making fun of the customers who shop there to save money and describe them as 300 pound, spandex wearing hillbillies with five kids. But making fun of the poor must not bother them much. If we see who the haters are we see a very obvious trend also…mostly liberal. It’s not big business they hate. It’s freedom.” 7:40:35 AM 5/08/06 “True Nigal - but the best consumer is an informed consumer. Make educated choices. I don't see anything wrong with keeping pressure on Walmart. Hyway - I can see businesses spring up around Walmart, but on balance, there are fewer jobs, especially at stores that sell anything that Walmart does, and that's a lot. There's also their effect on suppliers locally and around the country. By demanding lower prices from their suppliers each year they force many to outsource most of their jobs, to China in particular.” 7:41:49 AM 5/08/06 ““True Nigal - but the best consumer is an informed consumer. Make educated choices. I don't see anything wrong with keeping pressure on Walmart.” Haha! I’m el oh eling my pants here! Educate? What, ya mean like this gem that took me about 30 seconds to show as completely false? “Which is actually not as much as many other companies given the size and income of Walmart, and has come about in recent years mainly as a way to counteract the negative publicity their business practices draws.” That’s not educating. That’s called bullsniffles that isn’t even based on facts. You have a pattern of this type of bullsniffles Y2. You do it with your anti-gun arguments and you do with this too. And you consider yourself an “educator”? You’re a fraud indulging in intellectual masturbation.” 7:52:05 AM 5/08/06 “My town has 2 superwalmarts. In the near vicinity of them are Home Depots, Lowes (lumbar and hardware), several convenience stores, motels, resturants (both chain and local), auto parts stores, clothing (specialty and bargain) Circuit city, Best Buy, grocery stores, etc. All of these (with the exception of the motels) sell things that walmart does.” 7:56:14 AM 5/08/06 “WMT $47.27 up$.02. Walmart stock has been one of the worst performing stocks over the last few years. In part, it's size limites its' future.” 8:37:42 AM 5/08/06 “I got (4) 4oz Salmon steaks from the freezer section of WalMart and grilled them with some cut up squash and zuchini along with some grill in husk corn on the cob. Good stuff. I know Wally World sells lots of Chinese junk, but this stuff wasn't junk. The whole meal was about $8 for two. If my wife wasn't knocked up we'd of had some Yellow Tail wine with it brinking the total up to $15.” 8:44:23 AM 5/08/06 “I like the fact Walmart doesn’t have one of the “saver cards” that is basically ‘get one of our cards or you’ll pay more than everyone else. I’m not too big on supermarket meat of any kind. I still prefer the local butcher.” 8:51:08 AM 5/08/06 “I don't blame you. ”8:53:40 AM 5/08/06 “Dayum! Look at the roast on that lamb!” 8:55:21 AM 5/08/06 “Looking Good Lizs.....” 9:10:49 AM 5/08/06 “In a Wally World down in West Virginia, the sales associates were meeting in a back room. Sounded like cheerleading going on back there. They couldn't have been too overly gruntled.” 9:14:33 AM 5/08/06 “I think we can translate all this to one central idea. The SHARE THE PAIN crowd are telling Walmart "YOU ARE TOO SUCCESSFUL, WE ARE BLITHERING IDIOTS WITH OUR FEEL GOOD BUSINESSES>>>>YOU HAVE TO SUFFER AS A MATTER OF REPAYMENT TO US."” 9:19:08 AM 5/08/06 “You guys would argue with a f'ing street sign.” 10:53:21 AM 5/08/06 “After I retired from the Coast Guard in '92 I went back to school, graduating with one of those "Cum Laude" things, passed my boards first time up and became a Licensed Optician in the state of Virginia. I went to work for Wal-mart and stayed with them for about 5 years in both Virginia and Wisconsin. I was personally treated quite well, but only because my training and education gave me some leverage. I worked in probably half a dozen stores during that time and probably know more Wal-Mart employees than most who post here. One of the recurring problems I had with them was their insistence on pushing eyewear options on everyone who came into the Vision Center regardless of whether they were beneficial or not. I was more of a mind to present the options, pointing out both the advantages and disadvantages; allowing the customer to make an informed choice. This sales method was routinely criticized, but I did have more repeat customers than most others. I was also criticized for paying my associates more than what others were willing to pay them. From this I acquired skilled people who were generally quite loyal. Walmart management also criticized me for this, saying that it would adversely affect my bonus (which it did). I personally know a single mother with 2 sets of twins who, at that time, were under the age of 2. She was a hard worker and eventually was promoted to department manager. The store manager, because he knew she needed to job more than most, told her there was no money for a pay raise and that's exactly what she got: nothing. I know many stories exactly like this, but will bore you with no others. On the plus side I will say that the sky is the limit as far as advancement is concerned. No more is required than hard work and a little bit of savvy. However, their benefit package is nothing to write home about. Someone mentioned earlier regarding Wal-Mart in big cities vs small towns, in the context of being good or bad for the community. The town I live in is about 2500 people. We are slated for a Wal-Mart sometime in 2007/08. There is a SuperCenter 20 miles south and another 25 miles east. A Wal-mart here will truly have an adverse impact on the local businesses. It seems the county sold us out by dealing with a middle man who does Wal-Mart's land buying for them. The Board of Supervisors states they never knew who wanted to buy the land, only that it was a Fortune 100 company. A few grassroots groups have sprung up to try and fight the development and, now that I'm moved into my new dwelling, I intend to join them. I'm not against growth, but it does need to be managed. In my opinion before this land was sold, a referendum should have been presented to the voters. Since this was not the case, those local politicians should bear the brunt of their choice at the next election.” 10:54:57 AM 5/08/06 ““You guys would argue with a f'ing street sign.” They give better points than you do....” 11:02:58 AM 5/08/06 “Everytime I go to WalMart, fight the crowd, try to find a check out lane without 35 people in it, and wait while the cashier changes out the cash drawer, I swear I will never go back to WalMart until the end of time...... .....or next week, whichever comes first.” 11:04:12 AM 5/08/06 “As far as WalMart paying their employee $1 more; if they were to do this the same people screaming that the employees be given a raise would then be screaming that the other businesses in the area can't get workers because WalMart is paying them too much. It's been said numerous times. If you don't like it, don't shop there. It's true that everyone gets a chance to make their own success. You can't just take it away because one's success comes at the detriment of another's. That's the way our system works.” 11:40:04 AM 5/08/06 Don't Shop at Wal-Mart “I have not learned, "Don't Shop at Wal-Mart." Late yesterday I drove to Walmart in Sylva to obtain the unfilled portion of a prescription. They had promised that it would be there. Nope, they then told me it would arrive on Monday. I said, "Nope! I'm leaving town on Monday and headed back to Florida." Next I'll have to waste time getting the prescription transferred. This can turn out to be a pain, since my insurance does not normally include direct coverage with Walmart. I may have to pay and then mail the charges to the insurance company. This will require searching for forms that I have not seen for years. Normally, I go to Walgreens, which bills the insurance company directly. If Walmart had not promised to have the drug the next day, I would have taken the prescriptions with me to Florida. last edited: 7/22/06 9:09:08 AM” 9:04:54 AM 7/22/06 “Now....um you know I had a similar problem at a Walgreens, and Eckerds (probably why they are closed) and a Publix....LOL in each case the pharmacist turned out to be the problem.” 6:12:42 PM 7/23/06 “Ditto, sorta', what XL said. We don't know that your snag was caused by WalMart, NS, coulda' just been "the system", which, when we refer to healthcare in the U.S., is fkd-up beyond belief. This is a b!tch post against the healthcare system in general, not WalMart in particular, IMHO.” 6:19:28 PM 7/23/06 “Wanderer is right. GOD the way Health Care has been screwed since the 1990's is ridiculous. Hell one of the big problems the hospitals are having is the NO PAYs. One of my companies took 4 wetbacks in YES THEY WERE ILLEGAL) to the Hospital one was flown on a Helicopter $$$$$$..... None were seatbelted, no licesnse, no insurance....The first three ended up WALKING OUT of their rooms a couple of night ago. The fourth....I am sure he will escape leaving the Tax payers and other paying customers to cover. You know....the WELFARE cases can still sue the Doctors and Hospitals IF there is a problem but they refuse to pay...So insurance has to cover each patient like they were going to sue...but only half pay?” 7:03:06 PM 7/23/06 “One of my companies took 4 wetbacks in YES THEY WERE ILLEGAL) to the Hospital one was flown on a Helicopter $$$$$$..... Just wondering if you get crucified for this, too!” 7:07:59 PM 7/23/06 “We know XL is an #&%!$. We assumed you just made a well meaning gaffe.” 7:50:31 PM 7/23/06 “VIOLIN!!! how was the BUND meeting (LOL)???? So why are you so guilty about the illegal situation? DO you think we owe it to the criminals to take care of them? Hey you never told me if you like the Antietem meeting on June 10 th (LOL) last edited: 7/23/06 8:28:24 PM” 8:25:36 PM 7/23/06 “yea i wanna know if xl is gonna get a free pass for racially inflammatory language. doesnt he know that w--b--- is offensive to hikers in mississippi, who have lots of jewish and black friends?” 9:05:12 PM 7/23/06 “Scott, WTF is wrong with you?” 9:37:08 PM 7/23/06 “well somebody has to heat things up around here without s-rge around. might as well be me” 9:42:27 PM 7/23/06 “remember all that stuff about you and tree getting along and love and cuddlebunnies and stuff? i take all back. im bored and i wanna see a good fight. so im fanning the flames” 9:45:41 PM 7/23/06 C!B! “FU and the horse you rode in on. To some people, the bruhahaha over Tree's wetback thread was the hypocrisy. To others it was just fun to keep the pot stirred up.” 6:05:50 AM 7/24/06 “the difference is tree was using it ironically while xl is archie bunkers best friend” 6:07:18 AM 7/24/06 “so if you are liberal you can use derogatory descriptions of your fellow man for your own entertainment?” 6:16:43 AM 7/24/06 “so if you are a conservative, you can count on your fellow think-a-likers to make excuses for you saying the same racial epithet the libbies are not allowed to say?” 6:28:03 AM 7/24/06 “Um Crash...I have never really worried what CRIMINALS think....Unless they are sitting in the jail cell thinking..."Dang this was the wrong place to do this."” 6:31:13 AM 7/24/06 “Its your religion, not mine. I don't need to keep the faith. besides, I am more a pot stirrer than a think-a-liker” 6:41:16 AM 7/24/06 “Hyway...so you would be properly referred to as a PUDDIN STIRRER?” 7:59:32 AM 7/24/06 “As I discovered in another thread, I am, in fact, a sodomite.” 8:06:17 AM 7/24/06 “Note to self.
