Sure I shop at Wal-Mart. I have a middle of the road income, live in a middle of the road house, so I save money where I can. Personal savings is important to me, and reducing the overhead cost of living (food, personal hygiene items and the like) helps me and my family save more money. Wild Oats has some great food but I would use up all of my income if I shopped there exclusively.

I used to work at Wal-mart part time a few years back. I'll say that it's amazing that it's still in business with the way management is trained. There is a huge Employee turnover rate because of it.

As far as shopping there, I do most of the time. It's cheaper to buy there than most places. If it wasn't as sucessful, prices would be higher. Don't make sence for me to pay more for something.
Who give a #&%!$ if some shop there and some don't. Ain't America Great!!!

I have only cleaned two road kill deer, and one was nearly a waste of time after I got her skinned out. The hide doesn't have to be tore up for the muscle beneath to be hamburger.
All my other road kill adventures have been with o'possums, and ground hogs. Now thems some good eatin! My personal favorite are the ones hit by '87 Celebrities - tenderizes em perfectly, but I had a friend who was fond of ones hit by Chevette's too.

I wonder if the drug companies are giving that price to the neighborhood pharmacy as well.

Doubt it. The corporate machines roll, at the expense of each other. Companies eating thier own.

Buddha Bear, we (you & I both) live in the United States of America. I point this out because it seems you don't know how our system works here in the USA. Here in our country, we have something called a "free enteprise" system. This system rewards successful firms / individuals. If WalMart can buy 600 gazillion of some product from me, and pay me on time for it, then I'm going to give them a better deal than I am the smaller firm that buys 1/10th the voluime & then (often) wants "terms" to pay me. I do this because it's a better deal for me.

Profits are what drive the business machine. Deal with it. Your continual complaints about the system make you look like an ill-informed, ignorant person with no knowledge of how business works. You don't necessarily have to agree with our system, but stop your incessant whining about it... if you don't like it then maybe you should consider moving to Sweden or some other socialist place that embraces your sad, inefficient & outdated philosophy.

God dag, wanderer. I believe you are in violation of the Terms of Participation, by entering a Post that demeans a country, nation, religion, or particular group of people.

I've been to Sweden twice and I love the country. And, yes, if it were possible, I would love to live there. It's a safer, cleaner and friendlier country in which to live.

Wal-Mart Stores offers $4 generic drugs in Florida

By Robert Green

TAMPA, Florida (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT.N), the world's largest retailer, said on Thursday it would cut the prices of nearly 300 generic drugs to $4 per prescription starting in the retirement haven of Tampa, Florida.

The move, immediately copied by rival Target Inc. (TGT.N), slammed stock prices of drug retailers, with shares of No. 2 U.S. drugstore chain CVS falling 8.4 percent.

If you say so, I guess those are the facts! At first I was upset by your lack of any references, but then I remembered that you are one of the most learned and respected members of TT. However, by this time I had started looking and did find that Sweden had dropped in world ratings since I visited the country. Here are a few quotes, for whatever they might be worth:
"Its citizens enjoy a high standard of living in a country that is generally perceived as modern and liberal."

"Today, the country is defined by social-liberal tendencies and a strong national quest for equality, and usually ranks among the top nations in the UN Human Development Index."

"Today, Sweden has a standard of living comparable to that of other advanced Western European nations, but it is no longer at the very top."
Sweden
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Please note that these quotations are from only one reference and may not tell the entire story. But they do not paint as bleak a picture of the country as you have tried to do. So I am not yet sure just why you selected Sweden as the one country to mention by name.

But I thank you for bring this subject to my attention. I learned that a 30.1 billion DKK Bridge/Tunnel, Oresund Bridge, now connects Sweden and Denmark.

Have a good day.

Probably a great place to live if you're a socialist...

One of the enduring myths of the "Third Way" welfare state is that a nation as a whole can have a high standard of living--even if no one really has to work--as long as government transfers massive amounts of wealth from those who are well off to those who are less well off. For the past four decades, we have been inundated with news stories, books, and public commentary, all of which have exhorted us to be like Sweden.

The Swedes, we have been told, enjoy free medical care, generous welfare benefits, time off from work, and subsidies for just about everything. When one counters that Swedes pay enormously high taxes, the standard reply is, "That is true, but look at what they receive for their payments."

According to a recent study, however, the cat is out of the bag. Relative to household in the United States, Swedish family income is considerably less. In fact, the study concludes, average income in Sweden is less than average income for black Americans, which comprise the lowest-income socioeconomic group in this country.

European welfare states are not making their citizens wealthier. Over time, the cracks in these relatively wealthy nations are growing larger, and if the disease is not arrested, much of Europe will tumble off into real poverty in the not-so-distant future. Europeans--and, most likely, Americans--seem destined to learn the hard way that large, seemingly intractable welfare systems have their way of destroying the Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs.
While people can debate the present condition of Swedes in Stockholm versus blacks in Harlem, there is a deep issue here that people seem to forget when it comes to welfare states: they are destructive at their roots. Advocates of welfarism concentrate only upon distribution while vilifying production. Such a state of affairs cannot go on forever as governments are forced to cannibalize their own capital structure over time in order to make the system to continue to work.
