You could be great, if your name change had included some personality adjustments.

nowslimmer - I don't attack you. Why don't you be equally adult. You're the one throwing personal insults, and you claim I need the personality adjustments. You live in a whacky world there bub. I feel sorry for you. Truly. Try to find something better to do than to pick fights with people 50 years younger than you. It's unbecoming of old people.

"“wanderer - Until you start backing up your statements, I shall assume that all your uttering is your peraonal, opinionated BS. nowslimmer 11:40:39 AM 9/25/06

Nowslimmer, I did... obviously you missed it. You can do a web-search & find lot's of info.

But before you read on... let's address your original post... What I said was that Buddha should move to "Sweden or some other socialist place that embraces your sad, inefficient & outdated philosophy."

That's not really a "slam" unless you are apologetic about being a socialist, so first of all, you've accused me of something which I didn't do... that is, defame a country you like. I just simply told it like it is... no one would disagree with the fact that Sweden is a Socialist state, so what the &#@$%# is your big problem there?

“Probably a great place to live if you're a socialist...

Now, Nowslimmer, you can read on... this is simply info available from a gazillion sites out there that discuss the decline of the Socialist states, like Sweden, which is specifically mentioned in this excerpt.

But meanwhile, and here's the important part... none of this matters if you believe in and embrace the socialist system!!! My only point to Buddha Bear was that the United States ISN'T a socialist state, and if he wanted what they had to offer then he should stop his incessant whining about the fact that this is a free-enterprise system and move!

One of the enduring myths of the "Third Way" welfare state is that a nation as a whole can have a high standard of living--even if no one really has to work--as long as government transfers massive amounts of wealth from those who are well off to those who are less well off. For the past four decades, we have been inundated with news stories, books, and public commentary, all of which have exhorted us to be like Sweden.

The Swedes, we have been told, enjoy free medical care, generous welfare benefits, time off from work, and subsidies for just about everything. When one counters that Swedes pay enormously high taxes, the standard reply is, "That is true, but look at what they receive for their payments."

According to a recent study, however, the cat is out of the bag. Relative to household in the United States, Swedish family income is considerably less. In fact, the study concludes, average income in Sweden is less than average income for black Americans, which comprise the lowest-income socioeconomic group in this country.

European welfare states are not making their citizens wealthier. Over time, the cracks in these relatively wealthy nations are growing larger, and if the disease is not arrested, much of Europe will tumble off into real poverty in the not-so-distant future. Europeans--and, most likely, Americans--seem destined to learn the hard way that large, seemingly intractable welfare systems have their way of destroying the Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs.
While people can debate the present condition of Swedes in Stockholm versus blacks in Harlem, there is a deep issue here that people seem to forget when it comes to welfare states: they are destructive at their roots. Advocates of welfarism concentrate only upon distribution while vilifying production. Such a state of affairs cannot go on forever as governments are forced to cannibalize their own capital structure over time in order to make the system to continue to work.”

Hey Nowslimmer?
Are You out there????

How about responding? If you make an acqusation... and then someone responds to clarify/provide info sustantiating their position... don't you think you should reply?

Maybe you have & I've lost track of the posts here... that's entirely possible... if I have, then please disregard my post.

BUT, if I haven't, please respond!

"How about responding? If you make an acqusation... and then someone responds to clarify/provide info sustantiating their position... don't you think you should reply?"
No, I don't. I asked you for references to back your statements. You told me to look things up myself. I'm not that interested. Additionally, you simply reposted most of your original material. I strongly suspect that you lifted it from somewhere else without giving due credit.

It appears that I'm not the only one failing to answer questions.
"In what areas are "they" so obviously inefficient?
Inefficient at building an upper class?

In what areas are they "so low"?
Public health, poverty, etc?”
MarkO
I only hinted at these questions in my post. Here you were asked straight-out!

Also, you are referring to some serious, debatable subjects and assuming that the writings you prefer are correct. Much of that stuff is unproved so far. Only time will tell. You are lumping Sweden in with a mixture of other countries and/or prospectives. The main subject is Sweden, not other countries. Sweden is doing pretty good, so far.

I did do some more reading in the main link that I posted. I found some things that you may have overlooked. They put Sweden in a better prospective then you are projecting.
"Sweden ranks in the best five countries with respect to infant mortality. It also ranks high in life expectancy and in safe drinking water."

"The welfare state requires high taxes. Since the late 1960s, Sweden has had the highest tax quota (as percentage of GDP) in the industrialized world, but today the difference is only a couple of percentage points of GDP above that of other high-tax countries such as France, Belgium and Denmark."

"Sweden is known for having an even distribution of income, with a Gini coefficient at 0.21 in 2001 (one of the most even income distributions in the industrialized world)." [I don''t know if that is good or bad.]

"Sweden's industry is overwhelmingly in private control; unlike some other industrialized Western countries, such as Austria and Italy, publicly owned enterprises were always of minor importance. 80% of the workforce is organized through the trade-unions which have have the right to elect two representatives to the board in all Swedish companies with more than 25 employees."

"The standard of living has become high under Sweden's social democratic system, and on par with other advanced Western European nations. The economy features a modern distribution system, excellent internal and external communications, and a skilled labour force."

"During the early Cold War era, Sweden combined its policy of non-alignment with a low profile in international affairs. At the same time, the country maintained relatively close informal connections with the Western bloc, especially in the realm of intelligence exchange. A Swedish DC-3 was shot down over the Baltic sea by a Soviet Fighter. Later investigations revealed that the plane was actually gathering information for NATO. Another plane, a Catalina search and rescue craft, was sent out a few days later and shot down by the Soviets as well."

"Beginning in the late 1960s, Sweden for a period attempted to play a more significant and independent role in international relations. This involved significant activity in international peace efforts, especially through the United Nations, and in support to the Third World. Since the murder of Olof Palme in 1986 and the end of the Cold War, this has been significantly toned down, although Sweden is still comparatively active in peace keeping missions and maintains a generous foreign aid budget."

"Since 1995 Sweden has been a member of the European Union, and as a consequence of a new world security situation the country's foreign policy doctrine has been partly modified, with Sweden playing a more active role in European security co-operation as well."

moonglo - When you use me as an instrument or the blunt end in your jokes, I consider it an attack. So I do consider that you were the first to bat. It may not have been so bad, except that it did not match the current conversation present in the thread. It was way out in left field, which, also, indicates that it was a blow!

Be nice to you! Do you really think you deserve such treatment? You're nothing but a poor imitator of a troll. When called, you always go to denial, try to change the subject, and then attempt to get the other person angry so that they might lose control. Obviously, you have been provocative in your above posts.

BTW, what happened to your invitation to join you in backpacking? And do they really know "Moonglo" at that LA telephone number? I note that the number was withdrawn, also.

I do intend to leave you alone for as long as you leave me alone.

nowslimmer - You're the blunt end joke of your own self, people just give you extra latitude because you're so old. You're a whiney baby, and your troll-patrol persona on here is actually pretty sad and pathetic. You think you're a great detective, of sorts, but you're embarrasing yourself. That's reality. You're too old to understand when people are kidding and being your friend, so you feel attacked and turn it around as an insult. You're too close to death for me to waste my time arguing with you. A man your age should not be so naive.

The most humorous thing I find is how the anti-Wallies complain about low wages and they aren’t fair and blah blah is they always make fun of the poor people who shop there as if they are beneath them.

It's obviously not standing up for the poor. It's a hatred of free markets.

My complaint about Wal-mart is really directed towards the ones in my local area. The people are almost always rude and never helpful. I think they got there training from the Pop Copy training video from Chappell Show. There are small “Mom & Pop” stores that do the same, and I tend to stay away from them as well.
