How about those suckers at GM allegedly taking our money and ramping up production in China?   Are they REALLY going to ship those cars back Here?  UNbelievable.

truly unbelievable. We should have never bailed them out.

Yeah, we should have let the entire auto industry and all the supporting industry wash out and lay off everyone who worked there.

chili, what makes you think the entire auto industry would have failed along with all the supporting services? Would people have stopped driving cars? Were you out pricing horse and buggies? Ford would not have failed. hell Ford will come out of this stronger. All the auto workers down south would have kept their jobs. It sucks for the great lakes areas, but eventually the greed and incompetence of the ownership combined with the greed and the immovability of the unions was going to cause a collapse.

True, when something fails it actually makes the rest stronger.

I have yet to have one person give me an acceptable reason why GM and the unions should be allowed to assume all profits for so many years and then when things get tough we tax payers assume all losses.

GM? Nigal the Government owns 75% and the unions Own 17% (granted how they "bought that" is up in the air)....Hyway I agree, Economic Darwinisim would have saved what was needed.

Hell I bet if the Unions had been faced with losing all those great deals they would have found a way to give up something.

hyway, you are drinking the cool-aid.

No, hell no, I wasn't pricing horses and buggies. Yes, people will still buy cars. Yes, Ford probably will come out stronger, but it doesn't have jack schidt to do with Union activity, it has to do with globalization.

But, if you thing GM and Crysler were going to make it through without help, you are living a pipe dream.

If you think all the car workers in the South were going to keep their jobs, you are smoking crack.

Mis management sure put them in the dumpster. Union wages (of which you continually rail against) weren't the backbreaker.

It was the health care packages they bargained for several years ago that broke the camels back.

Of course, you guys will continue to live in the sand and declare that spiraling health care costs are ALL the fault of lawyers. Never mind your Republican Doctor buddies all make a boat load of money. Doctors blame it all on the lawyers because they have to pay malpractice claims. They think it ought to be a do over when they sew up a pair of scissors in someone's chest and they puncture the poor sap's aorta...or, even better, they think human life is only worth a few bucks.

I am not an economist....don't claim to be. But I don't think for a second that the Insurance, Banking and Auto Industry would have "corrected" itself without massive intervention.

The wailing, crying and gnashing of teeth over the bailout pales in comparison to what you guys would have been crying about if we had skid right off the blocks into a Depression.

I never said chrysler or GM would have made it through. In fact I was almost 100% sure chrysler would fail. GM was 50/50.

I don't know why people who defend Unions always think those of us who oppose them are all about what Union wage rates are. I could care less what they pay them. I just think its bull #&%!$ that I should have to pay a bunch of criminals the right to work for a bunch of incompetents. I hate how they specialize jobs so that only someone with a particular union rating can do that job, when its obvious that someone trained in a similar skill could do it as well. I think its a crime for people to attack people who cross union strike lines to get work. My list of anti-union sentiments goes way beyond salary.

The truth is that you don't know any more what would have happened to the auto industry with out the bailouts than anyone else. Your scenario has just as much chance to be wrong (probably more of a chance) than it does of being right.

Oh oh, theirs that Depression boogeyman again. better bring your children inside or the depressionman will get you.

Talking about gnashing your teeth, there will be plenty of that when the real long term results of Obama's spending spree comes home to roost.

Foreign car brands operating in the US do not have the numbers of retired workers domestic brands do ----

hyway, I don't say they needed help because of management, or union, or any other internal reason.

I said they needed help because the alternative of letting them just go belly up would cost more than the bailout.
