ultimately is a strange term. "Wall street has been a formal institution since the Buttonwood Agreement signed in 1792. It was one of the corners of foundation of this country and is a requirement of any any democracy since. So to say wall street is ultimately self defeating is to say that democracy is ultimately self defeating.

Wall Street is not the problem. It is when you turn loose unbridled greed in a deregulated market when things go wrong.

I agree with that chili. But things going wrong isn't really the problem. Things go wrong all the time, yet we overcome, make corrections and move on. The problem here is that the wrong people have entered the stock market. People who can't afford to take losses - retirement funds, governments, people living on the edge of their means. In the last 15 years people have acted like teh stock market was a government secured bank deposit. They were sure they wouldn't lose money. After all look at the charts. Even after teh minor corrections that have occured as warning signs people still kept their retirement fund in stocks, Cities still were heavily invested.

To me that's the problem. If you aren't prepared to lose it all don't invest in the stock market. that had always been the rule of thumb.

So much environmental degradation can be ascribed to the pursuit of short term gain. So much human degradation as well.

I remember when the Republicans were supposed to be 'The Law & Order Party'. Now they make excuses for the people who almost destroyed the global economy through their own greed.

And they can't understand why they were thrown out of office ----

Watch how they continue to fight against any regulation of Wall Street's activities in the coming months, the very activities that brought us to where we are today.

I wonder if, amongst themselves, Republicans would say the only thing Bernie Madoff did wrong was get caught.

The stock market is like our borders. We spend huge amounts on all kinds of laws and agencies, but enforcement never seems to come about. Paying twice for crime is the american dream -good for the cops and the robbers.

I am not sure, but it is probably for much of the same reasons that stovie does.

Prior to these two digressing on TT, I felt Father Goose was the only other TT'er I had met who fell into that category.

How come you guys are such petty bully boys here on TT?

I can understand Stovie being a shjt, but you guys have families and real lives.

I beg to differ. I can be an #&%!$ in real life, too. In fact many of the things I say here I have said similar things on camping trips. Difference is that in person you can see that I am half joking half serious and mostly just having fun. I don't hate anybody on TT nor do I think they are evil. Tilt expresses those feelings for others all the time.
