You all want clean air and purty forests but don't buy from the factories that regulate air quality eh? Whatever's cheapest is best for you eh? And YOU are all that matters. =)

I don't think tilt is the sole perp in the "how to be an a$$ scene".

In part, I find it pretty humorous that tilt and stovie are upright guys in reality. There is something about the net that brings out their dark side.

WOW just rereading the thread...did you know that all the money you give to Walmart goes to China?

So no overhead for property taxes, no overhead for paying for transportation of their goods to the stores, no overhead for payroll, no overhead for insurance...WOW no wonder WalMart can do it so cheaply....(LOL)

And the food I buy...so all that is brought in from China????WOW...thats incredible.

Good point, stovie, I was being presumptions.

No, dammit, XL, the shrimp comes from Thailand. It seems they have figgered out how to raise them in ponds. If that every catches on in the Mississippi Delta, there will be shrimp boats on every flat piece of water in the state.

ummm....I have worked for 2 different companies in 2 different states and in 2 different industries that both sold products to Walmart...I don't think we get the pork from China, then ship it to walmart...but I do know alot of the sports accessories that we sold to Walmart were manufactured in China etc...but walmart had nothing to do with that..

I think my Walmart bananas came from China.....so did the lettuce....and the chicken.

I wonder if the Chinese have a problem with illegals from Mexico crossing their border to pick the produce?

Thank God we still have places like Best Buy where we can buy American. We're number one!

To No One In Particular...
American made? Doesn't "making" something require a factory? And - OMG!- factory workers?
Americans have been brainwashed into thinking they're above manual labor. It starts early. In the schools, If you're not on a college track, you're, like, a total loser! Your career objective is at least a cubicle, if not a corner office. Obviously, Mexicans are winning by being the "losers".

I say we outsource what we can, ie, auto industry, printing, telemarketing, etc, and do ourselves those things we can't outsource, ie, construction, mining, drilling, agriculture, timber, fishing, etc.

I'll take these calloused hands any day over those soft girly hands of yours.

I never had a problem with tilt until he created Thirdterm for halloween. No one knew who thirdterm was (or no one was saying anyway). And under that mask he became one hell of a hater. I put thirdterm on ignore (still is) but learned afterward that it was tilt. I think for a while he saved his truly doucheness for third term but it wasn't too long before you couldn't tell the difference between the thirdterm troll and tilt. I say troll because most everybody else let people know who they were under teh Halloween mask, but not thirdterm/tilt. Not in the beginning anyway.

Oh, about the produce coming from china. My ex-wife worked at a restaurant in Calabash, NC (a town very popular for seafood buffets) back in the 80's. Even though they were shrimpboats operating from docks right next to the restaurants all the shrimp came from Bolivia (the country, not the small town 20 miles away). It was teh same for the restaurants I cooked in in the 70/s and 80's.

People who live pay check to pay check aren't too concerned with the theory of global warming. And the destitute care even less. and why should they? They're just trying to get by.

This concept that not shopping at Walmart is saving the world is silly at best. They are simply buying their Chinese made products somewhere else.

I bought lettuce yesterday in Coldwater, MS. The first friggin thing I did was check the label.

Yep, produced in the good ole USA. Fromm here on out, I am spending my bucks at Piggly Wiggly........

..............NOT. It was about 30 cents more than Walmart. They tomatoes were more too, and the selection was terrible. WalMart destroys the small grocery stores for a reason. They have better stuff, for less money.

I didn’t bring this up again (Dave) but I’ll be more than happy to clarify ----

Sure, there are lots of people who simply don’t have a choice anymore. Local stores are undercut and run out of business, but then MalWart is free to raise prices again (until Target moves in).

But the goods are still from overseas. Target doesn’t have the leverage to force manufacturers to bid against each other to reach that price-point, though. MalWart absolutely does. And if the companies have to move production offshore to accomplish it, that simply isn’t MalWart’s concern.

So like most people I don’t have a choice anymore. Many times an American made product no longer exists ---- but I’m not going to reward MalWart. Their stockholders can go fvck themselves.

Be sure to compare those prices, though. That “aways the lowest price” thing is just an advertising line. And beware the bait-and-switch. That’s what the former manager said when he was inverviewed. They use all the standard tricks.

It’s been almost five years, now. I’d love to see a followup to this: who has gained and lost market share, balance of trade of trade numbers, US manufacturing jobs lost over the intervening years, etc.

I wonder how the rabid chihuahuas will attempt to twist this so that I’m a traitor for suggesting that we try to Buy American or at least try not to reward the bad actors who sell us all out on a regular basis.

Time to go back to starving the trolls again.

I'll probably backslide eventually, though.... turn around and kick them in the teeth the usual 5 or 10% of the time. Then their little friends can raise Hell if they like. Anyone who sees parity in that ratio is just as fvcked up as Kevin.

The few jobs that do pop up are bid down by illigrant unemployment that has to be very high. Many are now being paid less to demolish the houses they built three years ago.

You're correct, they absolutely do not always have the best prices. We buy groceries and household goods (misc stuff) there. I buy consumable commodities there. If I need a tool, I'm stuck at Home Depot but until the local hardware man closed his doors, I bought from him. If I buy an appliance or something like that I lean towards Sears....but only after reviewing Consumer Reports. I look generally look at quality first, price second, them compare the two for the balance that I feel that I want. I prefer American, but if the quality of that American product is in the toilet, then that's not my fault.

Also, I don't think people are jumping on you solely for advocating buying American. As previously stated in this thread you're advocating buying American and "People who support elective war, polluters and finance industry criminals get no quarter. Period. I don't know if they're brainwashed, brain-damaged, evil or what."

Does that mean if I shop at wal-mart that I am a "People who support elective war, polluters and finance industry criminals get no quarter. Period. I don't know if they're brainwashed, brain-damaged, evil or what?" And if so, does that now make me worthy of all of your spit and vinegar?

Kmart and Winn Dixie are closer to my house than Wal-Mart. I won't go out of my way to go to Wal-Mart. I do pay extra to not go as far sometimes. I do love the little mom and pop produce stand on my way home. I may have get my wife to let me hop in there for our produce instead of her buying it at wallyworld. I understand not wanting one more stop with 3 kids in tow.
