Tilt I know this will come as a shock but the reason insured and producers have to pay so much for medical care is to COVER for the LEECHES in society.

here is a neat idea, go visit MCG ER at say 2 ish in the morning. See how many "free money parasites" are there with nothing worse than "I gots tha spells".
Why? If they went to their GP they have to pay, the ER is covered under leeechcare.

If Whole Foods must be on the moonbat crap list, will poor t*lty and rosey have to sneak into Wal-Mart at 5am to make sure the other libbies don't see them?.

Wal-Mart sees run on video games and electronics the same day "back to school" welfare program starts. Coincidence?

We stopped by the WalMart in Winona, MS today. It is one of the very few left in thr country that isn't a "Super" Walmart. Dammit, I wish they had kept those stores. You can cruise through it in a couple minutes and find everything you need.

We stopped into Wal-Mart on Hilton Head Island in SC and their parking lot is AWESOME! Full of trees, even up into the Handyman parking. The island has adopted this natural buffers (trees) policy to all their main streets and businesses. No cutting of larger trees and no large or tall signs, takes some getting used to, but you warm up to it quick. Only downside is that at night, the main streets around the island have a feel like they've lost their power. But that wallyworld parking lot, nice.

I lived on HHI for a couple of years as a teenager. That sign ordnance has been around a long time, and can make giving visitors directions a bit of a challenge. When I lived there, the nearest Wal-Mart was in Savannah, Ga.

Oh man that would be cool treebait. Now they have a Wal-Mart on the island. I have damned golf to hell forever, so we surely weren't there for that, but the beaches are really nice, found a hotel for $89 a night w/ full breakfast. There's not much to do there frankly, and that's precisely why we went. Took lil ape on a dolphin excursion, which was nice, saw a lot of fauna, and the oyster beds were cool. (But they've outlawed feeding the dolphins about '93, so they're smart enough to now know not to bother with the excursion boats anymore, so in that aspect it's a bit of a ripoff.)

We used to go to Hilton Head for two weeks every Summer all during the 60s ---- before the developers cut loose and turned it to #&%!$. The suckers even had the gall to call that crappy little bar at Grand Ocean 'The Crow's Nest', after they tore down the Wm. Hilton Inn. In the mid 70s we'd sit up in the original Crows' Nest on top of the hotel drinking gin&tonnix and watching the rental catamarans capsize and drift down to Tybee.

Back about 1965 there was only one golf course on the island (and maybe 10 tennis courts). There was the Beach, the Island Shop and the Penny Arcade. No 'Harbour Town'. Fast food was in Savannah; the slews were full of crabs and in the creeks the alligators were making a strong comeback (keep a close eye on your poodle).

There were so many crabs you had to wear your tennis shoes when you went into the ocean.

Ah, Progress.

And all that for the soul enjoyment of Tilt. The hell with anyone else who found out about the place after he did. They can just stay in Savannah.

For sure Tilt, I'da loved to have seen it then! That Harbor Town is your typical colllection of American Knick-Knacky crap shops, including fudge.

A local told me that the only way to really see the dolphins (at a close range anyhow) was to take out a rental boat. They still check out those for hand-outs, all the dolphins know they ain't getting jack from the many dolphin excursion co's. Funny thing tho, all them dolphin trip co's have pix from the good ole days, when the dolphins hugged all around them boats getting some goodies. That world don't exist anymore.

I was rather blown away with the number of dolphin excursion co's working that island, all for the most part, ripping off customers.

If lil ape was a just a bit older, we'da done one of the shark fishing trips ..... next time.

There aren't too many coastal barrier islands left that aren't fully developed or on their way to being developed. About all I can think of that's left is Cumberland Island.

The southeastern coastal hammock is probably my favorite ecosystem.

The dolphin tours must be more recent. I've only been down there two or three times in the last ten years. For a laid-back vacation spot I'd like something a little more like Cumberland Island, < G >

Back in those days it was more like Gilligan's Island. The bridge to the island was a mostly wooden structure and would rotate 90 degrees to let boats through. One time it broke and they had to go back to using a ferry for a week or more.

Now.... giant slabs of concrete like any interstate interchange and that tollway over Skull Creek.

had it been a chick, it would have caused a traffic jam but since it was a dude, and it was walmart, it was just par for the course

North Carolina has a few pretty undeveloped barrier islands. from South to North i will name the ones I remember.

Bird island is the most southern island right on the NC/SC border.

Bald head island has some undisturbed areas so I have heard.

The southern most 4 miles of beach south of fort fisher has no roads or development.

Masonboro Island in New Hanover county has no bridge, no roads, and is totally undeveloped.

Bear Island (Hammocks Beach State park) is mostly undeveloped. The only thing there is a ranger house and a beach side concession stand. The only access is by boat. the only vehicles is the rangers truck.

Shackleford Island, just North of Atlantic Beach, is accessible on by boat and has no development. There used to be a town there but hurricanes wiped them out over a 100 years ago.

North of that island is teh Core Bank Islands, these include the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. Only accessible by boat. Privately run people ferries do run there.

Portsmouth Island is developed, but its now a ghost town. The last residents left 40 years ago. 4 wheel drive only now

then the BIGGIE Cape Lookout National Seashore.

Ocrakoe Island. Miles and miles of undeveloped beaches, except for the town near the southern ferry, unless things has changed drastically since I was last there.

Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge

There may be more, but thats all I remember ( I googled some of that to flesh it out :) )

North Carolina is awesome
