China and Japan are slowly taking over this country from the inside already. How many US corporations have been bought out by China or Japan. Remember the uproar of a Chinese owned company trying to buy a US oil company. It will happen eventually.

Stovey doesn't care - as long as he's getting cheap goods produced in a Chinese sweat-shop he's happy.

Should we stop eating Chinese delivery food too? I think much of that money goes back to China.

This weekend I was fed up standing in those lines at Wal-Mart.

The Muslim cashier girl took my credit card, which was signed, and asked for I.D. I told her she doesn't need to see my I.D., the card is signed, and she said something about not trying to offend me. I was thinking "you're only embarrasing yourself here"... and reiterated she did not need to see my I.D. The point of the signature on the card is so she can match it to the signature I sign in front of her. She argued, ... I showed her my I.D., and then went to customer service and asked them their policy. I was right, the muslim cashier girl was wrong, and she was corrected by the staff.

The moral of the story is ... When you go to Wal-Mart, you get what you pay for. Apparently I paid for dumbass.

Well pitts, to me, she's a girl. She was like 18. Is she a woman? Maybe. I think that's cutting it close. Maybe I should consult with you next time I use adjectives.

Pitts, I find this post very offensive:

“I am going on a day-hike this week with my wife and another couple. They have one kid, a daughter, and I have my two boys and a girl. So 4 kids ranging from 2 to 11 and 4 adults. It's the exact opposite from the hiking I usually do where I am alone in the woods.

My friend is planning to pack his daughter in a carrier, about 30 lbs he says. I'll be packing most of the shared gear, food, lots of water and essentials. Each kid will pack 1l of water and a few snacks.

Anyway, I would be interested in hearing the experiences, successes, and even failures of hiking with little kids. Any tips would be appreciated. I would like this to be a good experience.”

Take along spare pants. Little girls have a hard time peeing in the woods. They tend to miss and wet their clothes if they will do it at all. Someone suggested that you get them to take their pants off altogether before they pee. This is where having a female partner really helps. All it takes is one bad experience like that and you'll never get them to go on another trip willingly.

On an overnight bring a spare sleeping bag for the same reason. Even little boys don't want to get up and go pee in the woods in the dark. They'll hold it and then wet the bag. If the kids are little and won't be traumatized sometimes "pull-ups" are worth it.

Pack things they like to do or are familiar to them. A pillowcase is popular 'cause it's light and you can stuff it with clothes. On a day hike pack notebooks and crayons. Let them draw what they see. Let them pick out the snacks and take regular breaks. Kids will force you to slow down and enjoy the scenery. I tend to hike in a rush and hiking with my kids tends to open trails up in a way I never saw them before.

I only make my kids carry water and snacks. I let the older boys take the point and tie a bandana to them. I'll say, "As long as I can see this you are good." Of course they have no idea if I can see the bandana or not so it keeps them a little on the conservative side.

Good luck.

As far as lightening up is concerned. You and I don’t have the best track record. Things sort of are what they are.

Which, as I re-read this, is waaaay off topic from this thread. My bad. There is a thread I made this summer about day-hiking with my family. We have since done a few trips. They were very rewarding. The comments of a few on TT were key and anything I may comment on here came from the good people that gave me tips on that thread.

pitts, one thing is consistent with you, your patronizing attitude toward others. That might have something to do with our track record. You're a teacher, right? If you don't like my adjectives, maybe you should keep it to yourself?

PS - Let's be friends. I married a teacher. We should do lunch.

Sometimes it takes time for people to lose momentum in one direction before they can gain it in another.

My wife told me that I turn everything into a Physics analogy which I see now is true. I must be longing for the mother ship. I know I do that from time to time.

I am not a teacher. I am not sure how I left that impression. Your wife has a great job. I wish I had gone in that direction. I still think of it from time to time. I would love to teach math, chemistry, or physics… math especially. I settle for homework.

I was describing her, in the same way I described her as female, which you didn't seem to take offense to.

I'll rewrite it. Please let me know if this offends anybody.

A human received my payment card, which was signed, and asked for I.D. I told said human, that one need not see my I.D., the card is signed, and said human said something about not trying to offend me. I will not tell you what I was thinking, and reiterated said person did not need to see my I.D. The point of the signature on the card is so said person can match it to the signature I sign in front of said person. Said person had a different viewpoint, ... I showed said person my I.D., and then went to customer service and asked them their policy. I was right, the said person had a different viewpoint, and was subsequently harrassed by WalMart employees.

Not to break up the cute name calling, but Sarge do you honestly think some kid made up her own credit card acceptance policy? The store probably had some fraudulent credit card activity and instituted this policy. (See earlier post about Wal-Mart shoppers) But in your macho, wanting to be the alpha, petty display of power you got some poor girl embarrassed. The store most likely put on a show for you to not upset another one of those Wal-Mart regulars. Do you think this girl likes starting her morning with a “give me a W” Wal-Mart cheer and then put up with your petty bull #&%!$?

I don’t know about you but my credit card is separated from my ID by about 10 mils of material. It really isn’t so hard for me to present both to the clerk. And the store does have the right to ask for ID. In many cases it is actually required by the credit card acceptance policy of the card issuer.

Hey, I cannot use the word bull #&%!$.
mjc

Actually, mjc, I simply asked the their policy. They told me as if reading from a book. Then I asked if the card is signed, do you check for other forms of I.D., and they said "no". It wasn't until then that I told them what happened, so unfortunately, your theory is wrong.

Also, I worked in retail in various stores for years. I was the branch manager of a large computer store. I know the deal.

The ID is not required by the credit card acceptor when it's signed, under NO circumstances in the state of PA.

Also, I've NEVER been asked, or seen anybody asked, EVER, or another form of ID when the credit card is signed.

Maybe you're thinking of checks, or when the card is not properly signed.
