When I saw it, Tilt was the first person I thought of.” 7:01:58 AM 9/18/09 “Why because that matches the potential pool of sperm donors for him?” 7:09:25 AM 9/18/09 “Darn” 8:35:57 AM 9/18/09 “They've got the Wrong Flag stuck on the backs of their veeeeehickles.” 9:48:36 AM 9/18/09 “Funny this thread would show up today, I just received some paper work about a class action suit from when I worked for Walmart as an Optician back in Virginia. Compensation for lock ins, no breaks, no lunches and forced work off the clock. That never happened to me, so I tossed it in the trash.” Nimblefoot same lawsuit happened a year or so back in office depot. i took total advantage of it because it very much happened to me while i worked there.” 9:10:59 AM 9/19/09 “A new report released by Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, and promoted by the Ohio UFCW locals shows that Walmart has more employees on any kind of state assistance than any other employer. In fact, about 28% of Walmart's employees are on Medicaid alone! That's not counting Walmart workers on food stamps, CHIP, or other numerous taxpayer-funded program. The truth of the matter, is that Walmart's "competitive" business model can't compete without taxpayer subsidies. All of us have to bear the burden for their irresponsible corporate behavior--and that's unfair to responsible corporate citizens who compete with Walmart AND provide affordable, quality health care to their employees. http://ufcw.blogspot.com/2009/09/walmart-tops-state-assistance-rolls-in.html” 5:48:58 AM 10/05/09 “You can't call it socialism, because it follows the model of flood insurance for the rich that have houses on dangerous bodies of water. It's like they think no one is watching.” 6:46:59 AM 10/05/09 “The rich? But not the average or the poor? Do we contribute to private insurance (aside from our own policies)?” 7:09:16 AM 10/05/09 “floodsmart.gov/floodsmart/pages/landing_pages/landing0000_1.jsp?WT.mc_id=FEMA_Google1&WT.srch=1 Looks like gov. to me. last edited: 10/05/09 6:46:01 AM” 7:17:58 AM 10/05/09 “Damn that Walmart for hiring the poor and unskilled. They should be like the rest of the corporate world and only hire competent people.” 10:23:06 AM 10/05/09 “In fact, about 28% of Walmart's employees are on Medicaid alone! Your analysis would be fine for places in some places, but try to take that analysis to Itta Bena, Mississippi, or Jackson, Alabama. I would be more interested in seeing how WalMarts "numbers" looked as compared to other employers in any given market. Now, I am not saying WalMart is as pure as the driven snow, but I am saying that those figures are pretty much meaningless without some background data.” 10:29:54 AM 10/05/09 “If someone in this country can afford to by his own HC insurance , but somehow doesn't file an income tax each year, he would be the only one in the country that doesn't have socialized HC.” 10:51:28 AM 10/05/09 “Chili, I realize that this is anecdotal, but the little town I grew up in, (pop. 16,000) had two grocery stores. One was a Safeway and their employees belonged to a union and were well-paid in comparison with the job market in town. The other store was a local Kansas enterprise and they kept up with Safeway in terms of wages and benefits so that they could maintain the customer service of their competitors. Guess who's coming to town? Wal-Mart walks in, Safeway leaves, the local store is still there, but working at either the local store or Wal-Mart brings nothing close to the wages and benefits that were paid in that small town prior to Wally coming in.” 11:40:58 AM 10/05/09 “.....and the state ends up picking up the slack in health care, food stamps, etc. thereby subsidizing Walmart.” 11:43:51 AM 10/05/09 “since i know that walmart offers medical insurance, you pay part of it just like you do in any retail job, i'm thinking that most employees have decided it's easier to have the state give it to them for free.” 1:13:37 PM 10/05/09 “.......because they don't make enough money to afford effective health care insurance. If they bought effective health insurance they would have to live on dog food.” 2:14:37 PM 10/05/09 “listen, i couldn't afford it either when i worked at office depot, but i did it. it took a third of my paycheck. but i did it. so to those who won't. #&%!$ 'em.” 2:24:07 PM 10/05/09 “That's a valid argument, dunadan.” 2:32:19 PM 10/05/09 “Vile, marko...quick question, who determines the "value" of an employee's work? I mean its kinda like, who determines the VALUE of a sleeping bag, or car or anything else.” 2:32:59 PM 10/05/09 “Leftists are so stupid.” 5:49:55 PM 10/05/09 “The problem around here is that in the middle of a discussion, someone steps up and makes a totally ignorant statement.” 6:00:59 PM 10/05/09 Done “"I would be more interested in seeing how WalMarts "numbers" looked as compared to other employers in any given market." - chili36 Ohio Medicaid recipients by employer As of Aug. 2009 Walmart: 15,246 McDonald’s: 12,726 Wendy’s: 5,703 Kroger: 5,319 Bob Evans: 4,773 Burger King: 3,661 Taco Bell: 3,412 Subway: 2,722 Goodwill: 2,550 Giant Eagle: 2,431 Ohio food stamps recipients by employer As of Aug. 2009 Walmart: 12,731 McDonald’s: 11,877 Wendy’s: 5,507 Kroger: 4,197 Bob Evans: 3,994 Burger King: 3,576 Taco Bell: 3,225 Subway: 2,447 Giant Eagle: 2,238 Dollar General: 2,219 Source: Ohio Department of Job and Family Services http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/ohio-news/employees-of-big-companies-fill-ohios-medicaid-food-stamp-rolls-report-says-323224.html” 8:09:02 PM 10/05/09 “How about putting the # employed by each company up there as well.” 8:55:07 PM 10/05/09 47% will pay no federal income tax “http://money.cnn.com/2009/09/30/pf/taxes/who_pays_taxes/index.htm?postversion=2009093012 In 2009, roughly 47% of households, or 71 million, will not owe any federal income tax, according to estimates by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center. Some in that group will even get additional money from the government because they qualify for refundable tax breaks.” 9:03:08 PM 10/05/09 “You're shiiting me. Huh......I would have figured that the part-time cashiers and shelf stockers got paid as much as the CEO. BOYCOTT WALMART! How about putting the # employed by each company up there as well.” hyway 11:55:07 PM 10/05/09 I remember the time when a car made by company X was in more accidents than any other car therefore they were not safe. Turned out there were more of them on the road than any other car, lol. Why are libbies afraid of math?” 4:23:08 AM 10/06/09 “How about finding them yourself hyway? - you lazy #&%!$.” 4:28:19 AM 10/06/09 ““Vile, marko...quick question, who determines the "value" of an employee's work? XLax.......quick answer There is no quick answer.” 5:32:52 AM 10/06/09 “How about finding them yourself hyway? - you lazy #&%!$ Translation: "you got me". It doesn't take an economist (snicker) to realize raw numbers don't make a suitable comparison in this case. For all I know violin may be correct, but the fact he's dishonest and/or lazy about this makes me suspect it's just his usual mindless stoogery.” 5:37:05 AM 10/06/09 “MarkO quick answer, the MARKET determines the value of work. I am quite certain when you are looking for an item you compare prices...right? I mean you wouldn't pay 40% more for an item of the same quality so what makes you think FORCING disparate pay rates on an employer will help? Its simple economics, thats why Doctors make more than cashiers. More demand less supply.” 6:02:53 AM 10/06/09 “Isn't it peculiar how the self-appointed stalwart opponents of Communism rabidly support the new Communist business model at their own expense.... and that of their children and their neighbors. I thought they'd begin to catch on eventually, but it's like George Bush and the WMD all over again --- Reality is not permitted to intrude in any way. It just makes them froth at the mouth even more.” 7:06:21 AM 10/06/09 “New Communist Business model? I am sorry TiLTY poo...how is a capitalist free market business Communist? Is someone FORCING them to work at Walmart. oh and the WMD thing? Can you say 500 metric TONS of yellow cake uranium? WHAT yes tilty you are still so wrong.” 7:11:45 AM 10/06/09 “We remember when the wingnuts used to blacklist people like you. What are you going to do now? Blacklist yourselves?” 7:16:39 AM 10/06/09 “Needless to say Tilty never actually ANSWERS the question. So how is that "incursion" going? still think a Remington 1100 is a bit much to pull on someone for a loud radio?” 7:19:47 AM 10/06/09 “Ohio Medicaid recipients
by employer As of Aug. 2009 Walmart: 15,246 McDonald’s: 12,726 Wendy’s: 5,703 Kroger: 5,319 Bob Evans: 4,773 Burger King: 3,661 Taco Bell: 3,412 Subway: 2,722 Goodwill: 2,550 Giant Eagle: 2,431 Ohio food stamps recipients by employer As of Aug. 2009 Walmart: 12,731 McDonald’s: 11,877 Wendy’s: 5,507 Kroger: 4,197 Bob Evans: 3,994 Burger King: 3,576 Taco Bell: 3,225 Subway: 2,447 Giant Eagle: 2,238 Dollar General: 2,219 That is about what I expect. All employ low skilled labor that are for the most part at the bottom of the employment chain. While I agree that the numbers still need background data before you can draw a solid conclusion. However, that list by itself, is revealing. Look, the problems with healthcare and insurance coverage aren't at the top of the employment chain. You think Bill Gates is worried about how to pay for his health care? In fact, most middle class, middle of the employment chain folks aren't worried about it. I pay my premiums and treat it as a cost of doing business. I don't like paying what I do, but the reality is that I work for a large enough company that I get part of it paid and the group is big enough to keep the costs down somewhat. When I worked for a very small company in Knoxville, the costs were such that I couldn't afford the plan. I have been in a postion where I couldn't afford health insurance. That was the very reason, and the only reason, I decided to jump back to the "big company". It sure as hell wasn't because I like Memphis more than Knoxville. The long and the short of it is that WalMart is just part of the problem. The single biggest problem I have with the right wing is that they take the approach of "I have mine, and if those people at WalMart would just apply themselves, they would be alright too". Life just doesn't work that way. The "you can be anything you want if you apply yourself" theory just doesn't work flawlessly in reality. last edited: 10/06/09 8:07:17 AM” 8:39:20 AM 10/06/09 “I laugh whenever the insurance company calls my office to discuss our group insurance with it's members. I am the entire group.” 8:49:22 AM 10/06/09 “'New Communist Business model? I am sorry TiLTY poo...how is a capitalist free market business Communist? Is someone FORCING them to work at Walmart. 'XL Look to Red China for answers to your questions boys, Capitaligion is being taught a few lessons in economics. Free market with socialized food stamps and medical care, XL you need to learn a little about economics before you spout this crap out.” 9:01:56 AM 10/06/09 “chili, I too have been at the bottom of the pay scale many times. I've worked for minimum wage, lived and partied with minimum to slightly higher paid workers. And my problem with the left is that they rarely have any accountability put into the benefits they give to the poor. I've known plenty of people on "unemployment" who worked under the table. I've known women who lived in public housing and the number of adult males who lived in those apartments illegally, in plain view, was astounding. My ex sis-in-law who was receiving two SS payments (one for her husband who died in a car wreck and one for their child) who worked under the table and lived with a guy she would have rather married except she didn't want to lose the benefits. I've seen so much money go out to people who were perfectly capable of bettering themselves, but didn't because the money was easier from the government than working 40 hours a week.” 9:17:37 AM 10/06/09 “It's a double edged sword hyway. Unfortunately, people will always try to cheat the system. The amount of money they make or their stature in life is pretty much irrelevant in that arena.” 9:23:04 AM 10/06/09 “I am all for public assistance, but, I see too much that needs to be done. I always ask myself, how can we have this many people on welfare, and the sides of the hyways look like garbage pits. I believe it is our responsibility to be responsible for the collective welfare of our citizens. However, what we did was make it "free".” 9:25:19 AM 10/06/09 “Also, those are raw numbers. I wonder what the total # of employees Walmart has in Ohio and look then look at the percentage. Compare that number to the % of miltary personal say grade E3 and lower that are on public assistance.” 9:46:20 AM 10/06/09 “PS, Goodwill being listed seems a bit ironic.” 9:51:39 AM 10/06/09 “Factor in that military people also have free medical and dental (100 percent), 30 days paid vacation per year from day one, unlimited paid sick leave, disability compensation if injured in the line of duty and unable to work and a fair, competitive, structured advancement system that allows them equal opportunity to advance. Also, shopping privileges (commissary's) at reduced rates and, I am certain, a few other benefits that civilians do not enjoy in entry level positions.” 10:00:01 AM 10/06/09 “Dental coverage, what's that?” 10:05:59 AM 10/06/09 “It's for people with teeth, you don't have to worry:)” 10:10:10 AM 10/06/09 “lumber - dental coverage is pretty inexpensive. We're a small group (4 I think are on the insurance) and it was like $60/month I think on BCBS. I added it a couple of years ago and have been pleased. Also, I recently priced long term disability for 6 of us and it was $220/month or so. Once the economy outlook looks just a bit better I think I'll get it.” 10:10:58 AM 10/06/09 “Factor in that military people also have free medical and dental (100 percent), 30 days paid vacation per year from day one, unlimited paid sick leave, disability compensation if injured in the line of duty and unable to work and a fair, competitive, structured advancement system that allows them equal opportunity to advance. Dental coverage is a lousy 20% and you pay $30.29 per month for that. It's cheaper to pay out of pocket (unless you're having some serious surgery), which I learned today, much to my surprise. And the unlimited sick days...No. And the Army actually taking care of people injured due to duty (i.e: the man who aquired MS from his anthrax vaccine and is now being discharged w/ no coverage or retirement, etc, even though the VA says he got MS as a direct result of the vaccine), Not so much. Maybe back in the good old days but not today Nimble, and the health coverage isn't that fabulous either. I can't wait to get back to our civilian coverage.” 10:18:29 AM 10/06/09 “Actually my health insurance does cover teeth cleaning. I do need to setup a meeting regarding my Health Insurance. The cost jumped up a little over 25% over the last two years while they cut benefits at the same time.” 10:20:18 AM 10/06/09 Jump to Page << prev
