Not on his site yet. Supposed to be put on it mid-Nov and for sale mid-Dec.

The Henry Shires Rainbow:

Less than two pounds, freestanding with two trekking poles, about $225.

Crap, this would be Shires tarptent number three for me.
The man's evil I tell you!!! ;-)
.....and you just know, version two will be even better!

Oh yea, Fall Sale is on.

Thanks Stovie! You had to post this. Now I am going to want another tent.

You are going to have to explain this to my wife.

Compactability....?
Now that I'm becoming more of a Fat Lazy Kayaker sort, instead of the Lean Mean Hiking Machine of yore, the issue is not weight so much as CUBIC INCHES....how small is it when it's packed up?

Actually, I am very happy with the Six Moons Designs tent I receintly purchaced. Winds that hit 70 MPH shook it, but did not bring it down. The area had about .80 inches of rain that fell in about 2 hours and not 1 drop found its way in.

How nice of Stovie to donate his paycheck to that poor ol' Henry Shires.

I'm going to try my damnness to resist till version two comes out. Henry always does a great job of improving his products after feedback from his customers.
My old TarpTent Squall did fantastic this past weekend. No condersation at all.

I don't see how its freestanding. Looks like it still has to be staked to keep from falling front to back. I also don't see the hiking poles in those pics.

Edit: ok, I barely make out the hiking poles in pockets parallel to the ground, to provide front/back support. Still looks barely self-standing, though.

I think you can either use poles or stakes. I'm guessing the poles go at 90 degrees to the center pole- at the ends, to push out the sides.

Stovie - I think the Virga is superior to the Virga2.

Cloudburst > Virga or Squall. Get the front hoop... makes the structure about 100 times more livable and easier to use.

Preproduction pictures peeps.....

That's my guess too, Y2.
A single arched center pole with short cross pole at peak. My guess is the trekking poles would attach to the ends of the short top cross pole.
The website will explain it when Henry gets around to selling it.

I emailed the tarptent people about the line that ripped out on the MK trip. They said they would fix it but also said that I had to WASH my tent before I sent it in for repair... like in SOAP and all! Well, let me tell you, I was put out. So now I have to wash my Tarptent.

Smoking...um Excalibur 1066...presidential I think...Great Cigar......

Yeah I am looking at the tarp tent....would most likely be me and either the BOY, or an adult leader on a hike. Wondering....i am 5'8' or what 68' at full snooze. Do honored Tarptent owners leave the pack out or can you squiz it inside?

Additionally to floor or not to floor? That is the other question.
XL400236
8:50:18 PM
11/13/06

I'd go with the floor and if you get two people in the shire, probably no room for the packs.. one person in the shire, plenty of room to stow the gear. Also, in heavy rain storms, whilst in the shire, I've gotten wet.
