I am 5-10 minutes from the airport. It isn't a problem to pick him up. I will stand there with a big sign that says Jimmy San...lol

You guys would have been okay. Just had to have slept in the car somewhere.

No no, that doesn't sound like fun.

Hey ewker!
I would like to take you up on that very generous offer. Let me know if plans change or you change your mind. I have emailed resuce9 and told him he is off the hook and that he should just go directly to the Friday night camp.

Whew... today was not a good day for a computer restoration.

I finally got a chance to look at the boards. If Ewker is picking up Jimmy, then I'm going to head down earlier for the friday night camp. My plans changed around the house anyway, so I'll be able to leave as early as I want, and still be able to hit the stores in nashville.

Anyone is still welcome to go with me. I'm planning on being to camp around 4-5 at the latest.

Thanks to both of you for the assist.

I have one final favor to ask of someone on the trip... as it appears I am apparently such a charity case. Since I can't carry matches or fuel on the plane could someone drive down some extra denatured alcohol and a few matches for me for my stove?

Pretty please?

I have seen that TN. It has been warmer up in Chicago as well. Had a cold snap in late November, snow, now highs at about 40 every day.

Sucks big time!

Nicole, I might be able to squeeze you in. We are leaving at 6AM on Friday morning. Can you make that?

Ha Ha! I don't think I will be bringing my huge cooler (no reason to) just 2 small ones. The wood I will have for Friday nights fire will not be taking up the space in the trunk on the way home, so we can fit all the packs in the trunk.

I'm itching to go as well. I however am not like tnprime. I'd like it to be about 20-30 F.

I did a "practice pack" today to see how everything was going to fit into the new bag. I was also able to shed a BUNCH of lbs as opposed to my last trip. As it stands now, without water, fuel, or food, I'm down to approx 22 lbs. MUCH better than the 65 I was packing last fall. Thanks for the information guys.

Oh my! You really cut a lot out. How much you think the food will weigh?

How much water you starting with? The are plenty of places to filter water down there in the park so you will not need to pack it in for the whole trip.

20-30 during the day or at night?

Hey ask laura the next time you talk with her about her first experience down at Charles Deam. I want to say her pack weighed about that.

Oh well, tell him I said hi! Jim has a great little trip up to the Porkies in April that maybe you guys could join.

“Oh my! You really cut a lot out. How much you think the food will weigh?"
I think for 3 days, food should weigh between 1.5 and 2.5 lbs. I'm not going to take the 12 course meal this time.

"How much water you starting with?"
I've got a 70 oz CamelBak stashed inside the pack that I'll fill. Figure I'm going to pack an extra Nalgene this trip to get used to the weight for the Grand Canyon trip. That should make water weight about 8lbs.

Figure in an extra 2 lbs for fuel, and 2 lbs for variances. I'm hoping that I can get my pack to the 35 lbs range. WOOHOO! Maybe my back won't kill me like last time!

"20-30 during the day or at night?”
During the day of course! Night time temperatures should be in the low teens. :-D

What kind of weather are we expecting and is there a short route out for me on Sunday? Word.

You like the cold too!

Yo Dub! Where you been?
Weather: Hard to say at this point but temps should be anywhere from the mid forties and up. It has been on the mild side the past week or so. Too early to tell on precip.

If you click on the map on the trip page, we will be camped in the middle at Saw Mill for Saturday evening. If you hike out Sunday (as others will be) the quickest will be be on the connector trail and up to Stone Door. This will be a "uphill" foray for you that you never forget! I think this route is about 4.5 miles.

As Per offical topo map:
"Generally, the plateu temperatures average six degrees cooler than the valley floor temperatures."

Average rainfallin January is 5.23in. and temp is 41.6degF.

This makes sence as the plateu is about 1000 feet higher than the valley and average elevation outside of the plateu region.
