Trip is posted! MLK weekend will work best for me due to a lot of driving. I am open to a route, I will hike anything. I did not dring my map with me to work today so I will post what I was think about tonight. I may have said something of it on the other thread.

I will be camping at Stone Door on Friday January 13. Anyone want to join me, I will have a seperate thread to sign up. You don't really need to sign up, I may have a special treat that Barbie made for those that wish to attend and I just want to make sure she makes enough.

What would you like to hike? I really don't care. The knees will be up for this trip, not like last time so I am game for anything.

I think I posted on the other thread this:

Saturday - Stone Door to Stage road.
Sunday - Dayhike over to dayhike over to Savage Falls, then double back to either Collins East or West for the night.
Monday - Hike out to Stone Door.

I have never been up to Hobbs cabin, so I would be game for that as well. Is there places to camp outside the cabin?

I just want to hike. Don't really care of the route.

There is a camping area outside of Hobb's Cabin. I don't know how big it is, but I imagine it's similar to the other sites there.

I might do something like spend Friday night at Stone Door, then drive over to Savage and hike to Stage Road from there. I've been down in the Gulf plenty of times and I'm not really interested at this point in killing myself climbing back out of it, lol...

I don't have Monday off so I would probably hike back out to the ranger station on Sunday morning.

I think that is the most likely scenario for me, assuming I actually make it to the trailhead.

Permits can be obtained at either trailhead. I forget how the parking permits work, they either give you one when you register, or the form is on a carbon. Permits are issued on a group basis, and everyone in the group has to be accounted for every evening. The rangers do come around and check for everyone.

You remember Mammoth Cave, right?

Little more up and down on this one, but I will not make the distances we hike each day as much.

Permits can be picked up from either the Stone Door or Savage Ranger stations.

You thinking of coming down on Friday? I/we can probably pick you up if you would like.

It can really vary, Jimmy. It might be snowy, or reasonably warm. Usually it's a little cold though. Last time I was there in January it was pretty comfy, but there was still a little ice at some of the waterfalls.

No IJ, he is just afraid of my hat.

It all depends on who else is with me regarding a Friday departure. I would like to get down there before it gets dark. Map quest says it is a 8.5 hour drive.

I think I will have to leave my house no later than 6 AM. That will put me in Indy at about 8 AM. How far ar you from Indy?

Anyone know if Savage Gulf in in eastern time?

It's really close to the line.

Let me put it this way. I live in the Central Time zone and don't bother to reset my watch.

So if I make the meet time 9AM, every one will show up at 9AM central standard, right?

About 3 to 3.5 hours WK. Maybe I could take a half day at work. Will you be going down 65 through Louisville? Its about an hour to Louisville for me. There's a Hooters just before you cross over into KY. We could meet there for lunch!
Indiana John

I'll check out the route and dates and see if I can make it. If so, I may do a Fri-Sun and meet up Fri/Sat night with the group.

Looks like a lot of familiar faces and some new ones on this trip, and it happens to be so close to me that I am gonna do my best to make this one. Only about a 30 minute drive for me.

By the way, it is Central Time Zone for sure.

Why do I always make girls cry?

There was that time in kindergarden when I cut that girls pig tail off...and that time I put a tack on the girl's chair that sat in front of me in music class.
