TRIP REPORT - warning: long & detailed
Thursday, November 24 (My 25th Birthday!)

I was at my Aunt's house celebrating Turkey Day and my birthday. Gabby was going to call me when she got close to my house and then I'd drive home and meet her there. She called a lot earlier than we both expected (5:15pm). I had just gotten done eating, so I said my goodbyes and head back to my house. Met her there... she gave me a nice ankle bracelet for my birthday and I brought her a Thanksgiving platter. We looked up some spookey places in RI and got directions and head out. Sorry, Capnbobo :( The Capn was to meet us at my house to give us "presents" but we would have had to wait 2 hours for him to show up, so we left instead and tried to page him to let him know. We got on 95N and started driving and got lost in conversation and all of a sudden I realized we were on 295S and had forgotten to stay on 95N because neither of us were paying attention (actually, it was Gem's fault because she said we could stay on 95 instead of taking the directions I had which told us to get off of it!) We were about an hour out of the way and quickly turned around to get back on track.
We stopped a few times for pee breaks and food. DeoreDX kept text messaging us and he almost made us miss another turn because we were f'ing with the phone! He also jinxed us with snow in NY as we were driving through. It was coming down pretty hard and laying on the ground. Doesn't make for a pretty picture when driving in a sports car. We got stuck in a bunch of traffic approaching the toll to the George Washington Bridge in NY and a few of the cars were laughing at the fake hand sticking out of Gem's trunk. I told them we were dumping a body and we got a few laughs out of that.
We didn't get to RI until 1am or so... Gem likes to drive 40 on the interstates! We went to Warwick, RI and saw the Ghosthunters TAPS headquarters and snapped a few pictures. The "for sale" sign stumped us, as the show is still on TV... so maybe they are moving offices. Still cool to see. (exit 10 off 95.. take RT 117E and it's at the corner of Post St.) After that, we drove to Arcadia Management Area (Rt. 165) where we were going to camp. On the way there, we saw our old friend "Bates Schoolhouse Road" where we saw the "ghosts" last time we took this trip 2 years ago. We snapped a few pictures and got creeped out again.
Drove to AMA(Arcadia Management Area) and couldn't find the trailhead (by this time it was 3am) so we drove back on the dirt road and camped somewhere right at the edge of the trees. Fussed around with the Ouiji Board a bit, but it was too cold to be out of our sleeping bags. We went to bed around 5am or a little after.
The next thing I remember is this:

Gemini: "Melissa...?"
Scorch: "What???" (she scared me, I was sound asleep)
Gemini: "I hear people..."
Scorch: "Huh?"
Gemini: "I hear people!"
Scorch: "What time is it?"
Gemini: "9 o'clock."
Scorch: "I hate you. Go back to bed."

We didn't get to sleep until early that morning and we were in no rush to get up and go anywhere, so we slept in until about 10:30am or so.

Friday, November 25

When we woke up, we realized that there were hunters parked around us and we must have looked like morons in the tent. By the time we packed up and got on the road, it was near 11:30. We went to the "Middle of Nowhere Diner" (Rt. 3, Exeter, RI) and got some lunch since they were no longer serving breakfast. The night before while setting up camp, we realized that Gemini's front headlight was out, so we asked the locals at the diner where we could get it fixed. She directed us toward the local sweat shop down the road. I refer to it as a sweat shop because the guy who worked there had his child (11 years old) working there and he changed Gem's bulb! There were other small children working there as well. Maybe it was an undercover Nike factory.
We went to visit my old school, University of RI and drove around for a bit. Then we were on a mission to find some alcohol for that night's camping session.
We made a slight detour to Staples in Wakefield, RI, where Gem picked up an audio recorder for us to make notes and also to try and record "ghosts" during our hunt (yea, so what,.. we're dorks and we're proud of it!) We went across the street and stopped for a beer at Casey's (I have some fond memories there from college) and afterwards went to Wakefield Liquors to pick up some traditional Aftershock and Blueberry Beer! We had a great story to tell the locals to ask them about haunted spots... Gem carried her camera around her neck and we told the locals that we were in a photography class... our assignment over the holiday was to capture something that the naked eye couldn't see in the picture. We played stupid and told the locals that the only thing we could think of that wasn't captured by the naked eye would be something haunted or a ghost. It went over well.
Our next stop was Chestnut Hill Cemetary (Rt. 102, Exeter, RI). Supposedly a girl named Mercy Brown died when she was 19 and was buried there. Her father later dug her up thinking that she had become a vampire and had her organs drained of all the blood. She haunts the cemetary because of this. This is the legend. We couldn't find the damn cemetary for a while and when we did, we couldn't find her grave in the dark.
Onward! Next we went to School Rd. Cemetary (Rt. 1, North Kingstown). Nothing exciting. It's supposed to be a "very" haunted cemetary, but it was on a main road, so it wasn't spooky at all.
Next? The Great Swamp (Rt. 110, off of Rt. 1, Charlestown, RI). We found it, but couldn't see too much of it.. by this time it was dark as hell. We got out of the car and walked a bit, but decided we'd come back during the day and check it out. Legend has it that Native Indians and colonists had a huge battle there over land and the Indians were massacred because they weren't informed of the more advanced weapons that the colonists had. The land is haunted by screams, gunshots and shadows.
Next? Down the road to the Royal Indian Burial Ground (Rt. 2/112 off of Rt. 1, Charlestown, RI). Couldn't find that at all in the dark. Gave up and decided to head back to camp. We had passed 2 cheap hotels on the way to the burial ground that were looking damn good since it was 19 degrees and windy out, but I refused to give in. Afterall, Mapleleaf and Treebeard had a bet going on that we'd wind up in a hotel!
We got back to AMA around 11pm or so... went back to the same spot we camped the night before and just sat in the car and stared for a while. Yea... we went back to the hotel. Sorry Mapes!
We tried the one motel that was advertised at $39 a night... no one was answered the office. While waiting for the lady, we saw all these cop cars and fire engines rush by us on Rt. 1 (Charlestown). We were delirious by this point, so we decided to follow them and see what was going on. We quickly lost them and decided to try the other motel next door to the first. We got a room for $49 bucks plus tax (room 11... creepy, right Mapes? Remember? 222, 333?) We walked into this CLOSET of a hotel and realized we must have been at one of these "hourly" motels. The bathroom was filthy and the floor was sticky... we found 3 boxes of empty porn VHS tapes and there was "stains" all over the top blanket. We were too tired by that point, so we decided to just crash anyway. The heat was also horrible... We checked in and it was 40 degrees... by the time we woke up, it only got up to 50 degrees. We froze anyway... should have just camped. We had a couple of shots of Aftershock to warm us up and fooled around with the Ouiji Board and audio recorder for a while... the #&%!$ moved and we BOTH did NOT move it purposely. It could have been us shaking because we were so cold though.

Saturday, November 26

We woke up around 10am and while I was attempting a shower, Gem stuck her hand in something "crusty" on the bed. She realized that not only was the top blanket filled with stains, but so were the sheets and other blanket that we had SLEPT ON.
When we checked out of the "Krystal Penguin Motel", I complained. We got no compensation for any of our problems, despite the cussing that went on. Needless to say, I filed a better business bureau complaint and Gem will do the same when she makes her way home.
We ate at some little breakfast place on Rt. 112, off of Rt. 1 in Charlestown (I forget the name of it, but it's in Gem's pics) and asked the locals where the damn Indian Burial Ground was. Apparently it was right up the street and we couldn't see it the night before because it was so dark. We ate a huge breakfast and headed to see it in the daylight. We found it alright.... stupid thing. It's about 5 headstones and it doesn't say anything about Indians whatsoever. It just says something about being "historic." Took a few pics and got back in the car to see what The Great Swamp looked like in the daytime. Found it and again.. stupid. Snapped a few pics and video and moved on.
Next, we went back to Chestnut Hill Cemetary to find Mery's grave. There was a guy doing some work around the church, so I took it upon myself to ask him if he knew anything about the cemetary. I gave him the "photography class" speech and he gladly helped. He led us right to Mery Brown's grave. It was funny... we don't believe in vampires but the story caught our eye so we wanted to check out her grave. Apparently, the locals DO believe because we found garlic around her grave, and a few roses... one being black. Melted seance candles were all over as well. The guy that I had spoken to (Jack) came over while we were snapping pics and said that since we were in a photography class, that it would probably be funny to snap a picture of the headstone that read "Benedict Arnold." We humored him and took a few pictures. Then he asked if we wanted to come on the fork lift to take an aerial view of the cemetary. SURE! Gem went up and snapped a few pics. Afterwards, Jack was telling us about the Chestnut Hill Baptist Church (year 1750). He and a few other members volunteer to do upkeep work for the church and he knew it pretty well. He asked if we wanted to come into the basement to see the original foundation that was being held up by trees. We were leary at first but decided to go anyway. I made sure audio was on the whole time and that we were always near an exit JUST in case. Then he took us on the tour of the church. It was very pretty. He even invited us up to the very top (somewhat of an attic) to see the original beams. We couldn't find the light, so we opted out. Thanks for the tour and friendliness Jack! Gem is going to email the church the pictures that we took. When we got done viewing the church, we drove around the cemetary and saw some really sad graves. A young girl with a ton of flowers, letters, statues, etc... saddest grave we ever saw (see pics).
After this, we decided we wanted to see Bates Schoolhouse Road graveyard again. This time, we'd knock on the house next door to it and ask if they knew any history on it. We actually had the balls to go through with this plan. We were going to use the photography deal again, but no one answered when I knocked.
We then went back to TAPS before it got dark. Found the Roto-Rooter van in the back, which is funny because that's the founders' day job. We also caught some others taking pictures as well. We went to the Chinese restaurant next door and had an early dinner. Road around on Rt. 117 for a while looking for the spooky house that Gemini saw the previous day. Found it and decided to park out behind it.... it was a huuuuuge, decrepid white house that was OBVIOUSLY abandoned and boarded up. There was an open door in the back. It was dark. We were scared. We went to the door and entered and it was about 10 degrees colder in certain spots. We quickly left after seeing what looked like a face in one of the pictures. We went across the street to Dunkin Donuts and inquired about the house... we went to Mike's Subs to ask about it... and again to HoneyDew Donuts to ask about it.... but everyone we asked seemed to avoid our question. Maybe they didn't want us to know? We went back to the house. Gemini talked me into going into the house and exploring all of it instead of just the bottom floor. We were a little nervous about steps giving out, but we took our time and tested each step out as we went. It was sooo creepy. One of the creepiest things we saw the entire trip. There's something not right about that house. The feelings you get in it were just weird. After the house, we drove back to TAPS one last time for another quick picture. This time, we saw the TAPS van in the back and got a picture. Gem said she noticed it before but didn't realize it said their name on the side of it.
We went back to AMA after this and planned on camping for real this time. We got there and I wanted to find the trailhead this time even if it meant driving around for a while. I wanted to get to the shelter so we could have a fire and relax and have a few drinks. It was only 7:30pm or so by then. We couldn't find the damn trailhead again and Gemini had forgotten her map of the area from last trip. I got out of the car at one point thinking I saw the trail. Walked back into the woods about 100 feet or so and all of a sudden I heard all this growling around me. WTF??? I don't know if it was coyotes, raccoons, wild dogs, WHATEVER, but there was no way I was staying to find out. I started running back to the car and Gemini decided to scare me by turning out her headlights!!! Damn wench! I was ready to kill her. Here I am getting chased by WHATEVER and she decides to play games LOL. I told her what happened and we decided that maybe since it was our last night here and we did all the stuff we wanted to do, that we should start driving South and find somewhere to camp in maybe Connecticut. We remembered that ENS, Pennsy, MarkO, CrazyPace, and Yam were doing the CT AT somewhere, so we called ENS's cell phone thinking maybe we could meet up with them. He answered and told me that they had bailed due to snow/wet gear. Bummer. Before we knew it we were only 45 minutes from my house. At this point we decided not to camp and just head home a half day early. We got home around 1:30am and went straight to bed.

Sunday, November 27

Gemini woke me up to tell me that she was getting ready to leave. Got all my gear together and she was on the road around 10am or so. She's still on the road somewhere in VA and it's now 11pm. Poor thing. Hope her ride goes smooth the rest of the way. Hopefully she'll blast a little Kanye and relax... it'll make it a little more fun and then she can listen to us sing the song on audio and have a few laughs!!!
Gemini has all sorts of little audio notes about things we did that we knew we wouldn't remember for the TR... she'll be able to add all the funny stuff.

GREAT TRIP... what holiday are we going back? We've done Christmas, now Thanksgiving,... maybe Easter next time.

Scorch, there are some ghosts around New Castle but its been 32 years since I been there, so I forgot most of them, mostly haunted bridges and walking poltergeists. Then there's the swamp where the Mafia dumped their 'clients'. Ever been to New Castle? It's about 16 miles east of Youngstown, Ohio.

heeheee...I made it last night around 1:30AM or so. WTF? Didn't I promise myself last time not to ever travel again the sunday after Thanksgiving....

I WILL NEVER DO THIS AGAIN.

I did however avoid DC. Drove through Gettisburg and enjoyed it for a little bit. Thought if I already take a detour I should get to see something.

Well...did a little good I guess...but I still got into on traffic jam after teh other. Lots of accidents I guess. I decided to get of the interstate more then once and drove the rual roads. Fog and rain didn't help much. You could pretty much be sure that the moment the rain started again...5 minutes later you run into halted traffic...cause some idiot run into another car.

Scorchy pretty much summed up the TR. There really isn't much more to tell. I'll upload the pictures as soon as I am done checking my biz email and all the other good stuff.

A couple short coments:

Scorchfire slept until 10:30AM....I was forced to sleep this long
I woke her ass up because there were people [hunters] out there and thought it would look sort of strange to see a car and a walmart tent in the middle of a

parking lot.

I got to admit...when I talk and sing...I forget to drive the speed limit...I get slower and slower...especially at night. [my nightblind ass can't see #&%!$]

That damn Ouiji bord thingy moved because we where both so damn cold in the room and not because a freaking ghost was answering.
Yeah, the crusty #&%!$ from the hotel was pretty damn disgusting. you bet your asses on it that I washed my hands quick. Prolly the scariest #&%!$ ever!! The BBB will def. hear from me on that.

Nothing spooky about Mery Brown's gave. Poor girl was dug up because her dad lost his mind, at least that's what I am thinking. I got to read up on the story I

guess...
The church tour was pretty interesting. whoohooo...I was on the roof!! I WAS ON THE ROOF!!! [still scared of hights]

The grave of the young girl we saw...was one of the sadest graves I have ever seen. No need to get into this on a fun TR...but I will not ever forget it.

#&%!$ Bates Schoolhouse Road. They don't like us!

The old big house was sort of spooky...but more at first when we weren't brave enough to go in all the way...I didn't feel to scared while walking throu. I still think that's a face on that one picture. #&%!$...isn't that how everyone sees Jesus on a toast and stuff and then sells it on ebay? SOOO....I saw a ghost in bricks. will post pic later.

Now I aint sayin we are ghosthunters, UH ! [can't stop singing it]

Maybe after I listend to the recordings I will remember more...but I think that really was about it. Pretty damn good Mel. I'll copy it for my blog if ya don't mind.

oh Mel...remember the witch in Adams, TN I've told you about? Here's the story: http://www.bellwitch.org/story.htm
