Must have been "torture" for Army be beaten so badly by Navy. last edited: 12/03/05 9:26:14 PM” 9:22:38 PM 12/03/05 “The game was a disappointment. Obviously, Army is still not quite ready for prime time. It will take longer to overcome the problems caused by the former coach. Navy clearly played well. Congrats to Navy. After 106 games, you have a one-game lead. The Navy F-18s missed the centerline of the stadium. Some of my Navy friends got worried that was a bad omen. It wasn't. We had a great time. Our cook whipped up deep fried turkey, wings, fries, burgers, dogs, and plenty of beer. We partied into the night and went home friends. Thanks for that post V. It embodies the spirit of the Army Navy game. Neither side forgets the essential fact that both play on the same side once they graduate. Having shared 11 games with my Army, Navy, and Marine Corps friends now, the common bond at the game is recalling games past and things that occurred. It's a great time. All of us take the game to heart, but we also share stories about our service and how we may have interacted with the other services. Which leads me to the fact that I know for a certainty that my Navy and Marine Corps friends would agree that USA's slur is so far out of line it doesn not deserve a response. Still, I would point out that the failures at Abu Graib and elsewhere are American failures as much as failures of the service or agency involved in particular incidents. We sent young people into a situation for which they were improperly trained, and we failed to instill the concept of humanity in them. We failed again in leadership, which at best looked the other way. I think, however, it goes way beyond that. At any rate, it was soldiers reacting to their conscience who brought Abu Graib to light. So there must have been a sense of honor somewhere. I served in the Army, and I certainly have not condoned what happened at Abu Graib. I served in the intelligence community, and I certainly do not condone the CIA abuse, which amounts to murder.” 11:37:05 AM 12/04/05 “Army-Navy Game A Big Success By KYW's Sonia Rincon A big victory for the Midshipmen of the U-S Naval Academy. They take home the Commander in Chief's trophy after a 42-to-23 victory over the Military Academy's Black Knight's in the Army Navy game. Fans react. They all had a have a meaningful reason for coming... "I'm proud to be here to support our troops." "It's just the idea of being here with our fellas overseas. And I feel like I don't care who wins the game. I'm rootin for both of them." But there were plenty of diehards... with a sea of gray on one side and black and white on the other, the white hats bobbed up and down as the game intensified and the Navy dominated. Mike Stump is a retired major who rooted for the Army but says the grads of both academies will give us all something to be proud of for years to come. "Everybody that's on the team whether it's Army or Navy in the next year or two years, god forbid if the war continues that long, they'll be there. And they're gonna be giving their lives for our country. And that's why we're here."” 6:12:39 PM 12/04/05 “Thanks for being a good sport Geo. Go USA! (The country not the troll.)” 6:19:57 AM 12/05/05 “Army? Navy? They're both skeered to play the Coast Guard.” 7:42:56 AM 12/05/05 “Army Navy breeds good sportsmanship (except for the drunks who drive the serious fans crazy). It's an amazing experience, for those who never attended one in person. The two sobering facts are that the series is always nearly tied up, and that the kids playing today will be somewhere in harm's way next year. We watched the cadets march into Veterans Stadium one year from outside the stadium. As they passed by, we looked into the faces of those kids. It was more moving than watching the march-on from inside. The same can be said for the Mids. We had two Middies stop by our tent after the game one year when it rained sideways. They wanted to know how they should treat the enlisted sailors when they got to their first duty station. We all gave them some advice, basically to the effect that they are certainly in a commanding role, but that they should respect the knowledge and experience of the enlisted people. We treated them to our food and beer. An unforgetable night. Ever since, I've wondered about those two. I expect they're doing fine. So, there is the rivalry, and we trade barbs before, during, and after the game. But in the end, both sides play on the same team. Anybody who doesn't respect that doesn't deserve respect. Incidentally, during the playing of the alma maters after the game, one of our guys had to tell a group of arguing drunks to shut up. Not everybody gets it.” 8:19:19 AM 12/05/05 2:56:15 PM 2/21/07
