What I love about Winter Park -

When it's really dumping, people, even in CO, don't want to drive over big passes. So the crowds head for the resorts right off of 70 (Copper, Breck, Vail etc...) So what does that mean?

It means a Saturday with 1 foot + powder and absolutely no lift lines.

Absolutely perfect!

WOW! Lucky you! We had some snow last week, then it turned to rain. Then warm weather, then rain, now it's just barely snowing. If it's gonna snow, I wish it would just snow! Guess you just gotta love NE for the crazy weather we get!

Backpackers use lifts! For shame!

Backpackers use lifts so you can get in more than one, possibly two runs per day. There is a lot of work to skiing, especially if you keep at it and get 15-30 runs per day, depending on the vertical. I know I'm a tired puppy after 20 to 30 thousand vertical in a day.

Now, there was this one day a few years ago at Sunday River when the lifts were out due to a power outage and I climbed about 2,000 vertical through 30" of new snow to take one run. One of the most memorable and physically exhausting runs of my life.
