I used a roll of Reflectix insulation from Lowes I have, but Dollar Store windshield sun blockers will work just as well.

These will go great with sarbar1's new Freezer Bag Cooking book from Lulu.com.

(What kind of kickback do I get, sarbar?) ;-)

HOI makes a killer cozy from closed cell foam rather than the Reflectix I used.

May I suggest using, as I do, 2 inch wide aluminum tape...also called foil tape...I have made cozies to cover most of the gear I use in colder weather...still figuring out a way to make a cozy for my Orikaso folding dish, cup and bowl...LOL...

Sarbar - you did a great job with the book. I've only had time to scan some of the recipes (found some good ones), but the book itself is quite professional. I like the spiral binding, love the cover photo, and enjoyed reading the introduction with your sense of humor.

I realized yesterday my homemade cozy would make a perfect place to keep my tortillas while backpacking. Just slide the reclosable plastic package into the flat cozy and place on the back wall of the pack.

My tortillas tend to be torn up with my other ways of carrying them.

I put my food in a plastic baggie and use my sleeping bag as a cozy. The only reason I put it in a plastic baggie if for some reason it does leak my bag won't get wet.

Hey Stovie, I carry soft taco sized tortillas, and they fit in the bottom of my Ursack perfectly :-)

As fer cozies, if you are in bear country, please use a seperate thing for a cozy that isn't related to your clothes or sleeping bag :-O

I made a cozy just like that one after watching laqtis in action w/ his a couple years back. Of course, mine was not as fancy as SS's. I just held the two sides together w/ ducttape and close the lid w/ a rubber band, lol. But, it still works just the same.

I added thre pics of my new use 1.4 oz tortilla carrier. LOL

BS, I just used some clear packaging tape I had around.

sarbar, I like the bigger ones, and they fit perfectly as you can see in the photos.
LOL, almost like I planned it that way.

tara, mine ain't 'fancy', LOL.

One more thought...
I've used a similar home-made cozy for years works like a champ. If you have access to it one of those small seal-a-meal machines is great to add to your at-home junk. You can find one in a garage sale for less than $20. The small size bags fit perfect and take a lot of trail abuse avoiding those nasty leaks.

Lee...visit the gear section on my website and it will explain what a cozy is:
www.freezerbagcooking.com

Basically, a cozy keeps your food hot, and finishes the cooking. If you do freezer bag style, you need one. It also helps when you are eating, and don't want to hold a burning hot bag of food....lol! Like backslacker up above..lol!

Stovey.... I hate to tell ya this... but... one of the seams came open on my cozy (this IS TO BE EXPECTED, of course, cuz IT'S ME!)

Can't recall how it happened. Think it was on the trip out west, maybe in the Bighorns... maybe South Dakota. Actually, I'm remembering, my freezer bags SUCKED so would leak. Maybe that had something to do with it.

So now I kinda wrap it -- with one side open -- around a plastic cup-thingee I have and use rubber bands. Still performs admirably. LOL!

Duct Tape my dear.

Hey Stovey. I want to make one of these. The piece of reflectix I have is basically a big envelope that came with perishable items inside as part of a holiday gift basket last year. The outside is metallic and the inside is air bubbles. Does your material have air bubbles?

I am worried about the plastic air bubbles eventually melting from the heat. So if I take the whole thing and fold it in half, with the metallic sides folded against each other, I end up with an odd shaped cozy about 14 inches wide x 8 inches deep or so. Your instructions say to use strapping tape. Any reason not to use duct tape? There is a sticky fold down flap at the top to close the cozy.

Hey lizsbaby!!!

Have you destroyed the cozy I made you yet?

I've been packing up your Christmas presents and wondered if I need to throw another in.

Need any Tyvex?

I kept snickering about the present I got for you. It's so silly.
