I'd let it go. Be graceful about it as you are now doing. Enjoy the gift certificate & you probably made a friend. If the lady continues to let her dog run loose then it would be different story. Suing isn't for justice, suing is a way to make money. Why do most people hate lawyers & yearn for a simpler time.

I hate getting nipped by loose dogs on the trail & swear I'll shoot the next one but never seem to do it.

aero, LMAO!!!! Tastes like chicken!!!!

I'm going to translate what Geo wrote:

Gruffy: "Bark Bark, Bark Growl, Bark!"
(Hey, it's a huge freakin squirrel and I'm a squirrel chasing dog!!!! Oops, it wasn't a squirrel. Did I hurt you Mr.?)
aero: "Yes, it hurt, but it's not serious."

Gruffy: "Bark Growl, Bark Bark Bark!"
(Go running by me again and see what happens. So hey, I'm a creature of habit!)
ero: "Well thanks; apology accepted."

Gruffy: "Bark Bark Bark Bark - Bark Bark Growl Bark!"
(My old lady has a draw full of gift certificates, LMDoggieAO)
aero: "Well I'm certainly happy to hear that."

Gruffy: "Bark!"
(I heard Raw Meaty Bones were good for dogs, but my owner is against feeding raw so I go out and get my own. Can't wait to try out your other ankle. I hope it was as good as the other one)
aero: "Same to you Gruffy."”

LOL! The first time I've ever been mistaken for a giant squirrel! I think the dog and I will have to conspire to scam a few more gift certificates, too!

aero, do like my sister used to do to me when we were kids. She would grab my arm and start yelling, "get off of me", to try and get me in trouble for hitting her or hurting her. Just grab the dog's leg and start screaming. The louder the scream, the bigger the gift certificate. Did you tell her you're into hiking? Mention REI the next time, lol:)

This story is just the opposite. My dog started crying for no reason. My husband was at work, so I asked my neighbor if she could drive me to the animal hospital. We gave her a gift certificate later on for her trouble.

stove, I have a chihuahua and they have the worst rap and it's because of the breeders and owners. The breeders don't socialize the puppies before you get one and don't tell the owner they have to do it or they become the "ankle biters" that everyone thinks they are. They can be as friendly as any other dog:)

I am thinking that most states have the one free bite law. So if that is so, then wouldn't it be a good idea to report this dog to the bean counters. You might be his first or maybe his sixth, but just think, the next one might be more than just a single bite. Not trying to encourage you to be nasty about this, but wouldn't you hate yourself if the next, could of been stopped by just a simple report down at the station. Some owners just don't want to admit that there dog just likes to bite, or attack. And the only cure for this is, well its not something the owners will do. So reports have to be made. Be a good neighbor, report the dog.

wow aero, sorry for the assault on your calf, hope you are not in too much pain.

i also hope your immune system is at work so that you dont develop an anaerobic bacterial infection....or cellulitis... cause everyday i look at cultures taken from dogbite wounds (dog or cats biting dogs or cats) and its amazing what interesting microbes might have been livin it up on ole gruffy's tooth.

Suing does teach a person a lesson. Unfortunately, it will be the dog that will suffer too.

The woman is entitled to have a dog that bites and protects her, but then she should have him leashed. I bet she even said it was a one time event.

I had a dog try to eat my entire 3-1/2 pound dog with one bite (from a lab). The guy told me it was okay if my leashed chihuahua got near his off leash lab as his lab is very gentle. Then the dog tries to eat my dog who was wearing a fleece jacket, thank goodness.

So then the idiot looks at me and says he just came back from kayaking and his dog must have been stressed by his absence. He is so lucky my dog was not hurt. I was also the idiot for believing him. Now I never let my dog near any dog that is bigger than her which are most dogs.

Weeks later I'm staying at a hotel on the beach again and I pass a golden retriever, so I pick up my dog since his dog was off leash and was not leashing her or holding her collar until I passed with my dog. He looks at me and says, "oh, my dog is gentle", and I think yeah, where I have I heard that story before.

Boy am I stoopid! I was wrestlin a ball away from Georgia today when she adjusted her grip on the ball. I had my had right where she was plannin to clamp down. Damn that girl's got a great set of chompers.
She got me right on the nail bed too. It bled for about 10 minutes. I can feel my heartbeat in my finger.

My parents have a welsh terrier. It's only about 16" at the shoulder, but her jaws and teeth belong on a large doberman, I kid you not. The whole breed is like that.

I can sympathize with you. I had to break our last airedale's nipping habit after an incident like that. We were playing rough and she nipped me when I took her ball away, and that canine slipped up under a fingernail. Now that hurt. That pulse in finger thing's a little creepy huh?

Well Sarge, see we were at the dog park in East Nashville, you know, at Shelby Park? So there was this deflated soccer ball we were playing keep away with. She tries to take it from me and I try to take it from her. You know the rest. Bad timing is all.

when my pointer was a pup we were letting her run by a river near us. She started yelping like nuts and limping. She had gotten a HUGE hawthorn between her toes, maybe 1.5 inches deep. Sass held the dog and as I pulled the thorn out the dog bit her hard, very hard with its back teeth. She had a big ole imprint for a while.

That prolly hurt like crazy currahee, glad it wasnt serious.
