“Nigal/Birch - It's all relative. I think Eau Claire is around 80,000 so it's big when compared to the town of 2200 that I'm 20 miles north of. Ely is a nice town although it's gotten a little preppy in the past 10 years. I've got family up there and it really used to a bar fightin' little burg back in the late 50's/60's. Ely would be great because the BWCA is right there and the Superior Hiking Trail is just around the corner.”

I'm done with college and in the "real world" if that's what you want to call it... Right now I'm unemployed and going home for the holidays for about 6 weeks until my job starts up again. I work nights for a program called project common ground, and I'm a ropes course facilitator during the day, which is really slow this time of year and the reason that I'm unemployed for now.”

Hiking, fishing, hunting, golfing. All within a few minutes, to less than 1 hours drive from my front door.

Saturday I will drive 45 miles and hike 30 minutes to the area I hunt elk. With any luck, I'll be back to town before 9:00 am.”

Indianapolis might not have the swanky shops of Beverly Hills or the mountain peaks of Denver.
But it has something no other city can claim: the most affordable housing of any big city in the nation.

When it comes to low housing prices in cities with more than 500,000 people, Indianapolis is No. 1, according to a report issued Thursday by the National Association of Home Builders.

"The shock is if you come to Indianapolis from San Francisco, you can't imagine the kind of buying power you'd have," Litten said. "Conversely, if you go from Indianapolis to San Francisco, you're in for a shock."
Indeed, at the other end of the affordability spectrum, there's California.
In those three months, the California megalopolis of Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale sold homes that were affordable to 2.4 percent of the population.
The median income there was $54,500, while the median home price was $495,000.

“I wanted to (& have) lived in the catskill mountains (@ 1700')most of my life. I'm 20-30 mins from Slide Mt & 2- 2 1/2 (straight up thruway/northway) to my brother-in-law who lives in the Adirondack Park.

My wife wants to live in Hawaii since we have a ton of relatives there (her 8th trip this coming spring) but the grandkids are all here. (so she's stuck)”
