my new toys!View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 9 of 9 messages posted.
my dogs got me presents! “I wonder how they knew ;) I got a brunton raptor stove, the msr titan kettle, and the vargo titanium spork (in lavender!). The stove is awesome! I wonder why they aren't more popular. This is my first cannister stove for short and light trips (pretty much all mine are short). I unfolded the little legs, screwed it on a cannister, turned it on and pressed the little piazo button and it lit! I boiled some water and made some coffee! Luckily I got another cannister in case I use this one up playing. I thought the titan kettle was going to be a little larger than the snowpeak 900, or whatever I have but it's pretty much the same size. I like the way the handles fold better than the snowpeak but it's a toss up as to which is better. I was a little dissapointed in the spork. I thought it would not be as flat, it's more rk than spo, I'll try it out at lunch at work, I'll say this though, it sure is purty! The little stove is the neatest thing though, the pot doesn't slide at all and it came with a little case. It was much cheaper than the piezo snowpeak giga stove.” 10:57:27 PM 12/07/05 “Margo, I realize that envy is one of the seven deadly sins, but you've inspired it in me. With the exception of the spork. Every time I eat at Kentucky Fried Chicken I think that they should find the person that invented the spork, and shove a spork in his eye.” 6:42:56 AM 12/08/05 “I have the raptor stove. It's a little heavy but has always worked well for me when I carry a cannister stove. The piezo starter works every time and at the price point Brunton was selling it at it was hard to beat. It's a little heavy.” 7:37:18 AM 12/08/05 Hey Margo “If you boil water for coffee in the Titan kettle, can you then drink out of it, or will you burn your lips off? May sound like a stupid question, but I'm in the market for a new cook system, and don't want to carry another mug.” 7:56:52 AM 12/08/05 “BS, I've been able to use a snowpeak ti set to make and drink the coffee without burning my lips. But you should try for yourself at home. I don't think ti is that conductive, in that one spot heats up but the heat doesn't spread too well. Leads to the complaint that ti is not great for actual real cooking as it doesn't spread the heat.” 8:01:16 AM 12/08/05 “Good deal Y2, I'll try it out, thanks! last edited: 12/08/05 8:03:21 AM” 8:02:27 AM 12/08/05 “do you guys get metal discoloration when you heat your TI pots..mine tured a bluish purple in one area....when it was boiling water..you could see the bottom and it was almost a red see through hot....did i have it...too hot?..lmao And i have a TI wedding ring..and it stays cold, and holds cold very good...holding heat it sucks at..and it'll bounce like a rubber ball” 7:10:10 PM 12/08/05 “I've cooked in my other ti pot with no problem. I was expecting more scorching but made various rice dishes just fine. I used my dragonfly and kept the heat down. This was in perfect backyard conditions, I wasn't trying to conserve fuel and wasn't trying to cook quickly. I kept the heat pretty low until the stuff cooked, I wouldn't serve it to Emeril but it met my standards. I read about some measuring cups at walmart on some forum that someone used for hiking cups and was thinking about using one of those to drink out of, I'm concerned about burning my lips. I know, I know, that's another piece of kit to drag along. I may be dragging a friend along and if I do we will be staying at stafford beach, it's not much of a hike but it's a lot nicer site than hickory hill and yankee paradise. We can get plenty of hiking in from there. Since we are not packing in far we will take a few extra items, like a cup so we are not both slobbering from the same pot. I will leave behind my thermorest and a few other items I carry but never use. I could care less if the cookware gets discolored or not, as long as I can cook relativly scorch free and clean it up ok I will be happy. I suppose fuel conservation will be a concern of mine someday but right now I don't get enough time for more than a few nights at most. Someday I'm going to hike the perfect hike but so far my pattern has been to lighten up in one area then blow it in another area, kind of like eating a big mac with a diet coke. One time I went to cumberland with my little walrus micro swift tent then brought along my large thermorest for comfort, dumb idea. Also a dumb tent, if someone wants to buy it it's for sale, I have a peak one cobra that's roomier. At least I leave the expresso machine at home!” 10:39:09 PM 12/08/05 “Never heat a ti pot without water. The bottom will scorch and discolor.” 10:53:22 PM 12/08/05
