Quehanna Trail in August

“This trip really blew up with maybe's! I hope you all can make it.

It is looking like this will happen the last weekend of August as it stands now.

I will take Friday off and drive over to stay at Parker Dam State Park. After I have confirmed the weekend, I will book at least one site, maybe 2 if some of you guys want to hook up Friday night.

I want to hike the same portion I hiked with Jmitch 2 years ago. Totally sweet!”

I'm doing an overnight scouting trip in August (about 15 miles w/packs and a few more w/o packs to check out campsites then Pat and I are co-leading a 30 mile/3 day trip in Oct.

1. Try this link. It should give you driving directions from your house. This is to the state park we are staying at on friday night. The portion of the trail we are hiking is about a 20 minute drive.

2. You most certainly can. There are a few places you can park you car to make Saturday's hike a lot less painful.

“Why? The last time the Knee'ster did the Quehanna, the forecast was 100% chance of severe thunderstorms with high winds, and this was just a few weeks after a hurricane already damaged the area. I don't think ANY forecast will stop these knucklheads adventurers.”

“Okay, so I have booked a site at Parker Dam State Park for Friday evening for those of us that have a drive ahead of us or those who wish to come out a little early.

We will be on site 63, and it is registered under the name of Brian Beanblossom in case anyone arrives before us. Below is a map of the campground as well as the home page for Parker Dam State park.

Depending on when we get started in the morning, Jim, Nicole and I should arrive in the mid afternoon hours. I know of a few places we could gather at nearby for a beer and dinner if we would like.

We will be parking at the Wykoff Parking area in the center of the map and hiking east on the blue blaze (Big Springs Draft) then hooking up with the Orange blaze (Quehanna trail) and hiking north toward Arch Spring.”

“I would show up with a friend when asking my parents to do something. This way they would look like bad guys in fromt of the friend by not allowing me to do something.

“We will see how it goes. I would like feedback from those that are attending regarding this as well as a start time.

Jim, Nicole and myself are staying at nearby Parker Dam state park so the start time for us is not as important to those close that will be driving in on Saturday.

I am flexible with the mileage. If I remember right, we have only one real rough section to concur on Saturday, straight uphill, but that is it.
