And by the way, if you think Pennsylvania has intimidating hills, don't even bother coming to New England or New York. NY has some of the most difficult trails I've ever hiked...” 8:43:04 PM 2/08/06 “I'm a maybe” 9:01:34 PM 2/08/06 “I signed on as a maybe only because it's a long way off. I hope I can make the trip. last edited: 2/08/06 9:04:48 PM” 9:04:07 PM 2/08/06 “The east has nothing but little bumps :P” 9:07:21 PM 2/08/06 “This trip really blew up with maybe's! I hope you all can make it. It is looking like this will happen the last weekend of August as it stands now. I will take Friday off and drive over to stay at Parker Dam State Park. After I have confirmed the weekend, I will book at least one site, maybe 2 if some of you guys want to hook up Friday night. I want to hike the same portion I hiked with Jmitch 2 years ago. Totally sweet!” 9:12:59 AM 2/20/06 “Sounds good WK. I'll mark the calendar and wait to see what that time brings.” 10:45:16 AM 2/20/06 “Hopefully we'll see some elk, I did last year. Incredible experience. Lots of bail out options and other routes for those who want a shorter hike.” 11:14:00 AM 2/20/06 “Bump. I signed up as a maybe....make a final decision in July. I hiked 20 miles on the west loop, but I wasn't impressed. I heard the eastern half is much nicer, so looking to give it a try.” 1:27:38 PM 4/04/06 Check these photos out “Patsquatch just did the entire East loop with a group. Here's his photos:http://community.webshots.com/album/549157166cIJLRx I'm doing an overnight scouting trip in August (about 15 miles w/packs and a few more w/o packs to check out campsites then Pat and I are co-leading a 30 mile/3 day trip in Oct. last edited: 4/04/06 1:55:57 PM” 1:52:22 PM 4/04/06 “i prefer the eastern half. greater elevation change, more scenery. nice pics.” 3:18:08 PM 4/04/06 “I will have 2 good working knees for this one when it happens. I have having the right knee fixed in 2 weeks. I remember the stream crossings to be one of my favorite memories of the portion we hiked.” 3:23:06 PM 4/04/06 “you've got one knee fixed and now you're getting the other...you're gonna need a new trail name” 3:37:00 PM 4/04/06 “Knee Gravy” 3:53:38 PM 4/04/06 “Mended Knee last edited: 4/04/06 3:59:08 PM” 3:58:41 PM 4/04/06 “bending knee?” 4:28:50 PM 4/04/06 “buttface” 4:36:45 PM 4/04/06 “you want to be called buttface.....LMAO!!” 4:40:53 PM 4/04/06 Never met him but I got it ... “Bionic Knee” 5:36:07 PM 4/04/06 “I did not read all the posts. now with that said here are my questions: 1. where the heck is it or what is it near 2. can a flatlander hike in a different way and meet you freaks that night? 3. drinking allowed?” 7:23:00 AM 4/25/06 “Hey Mapes, 1. Try this link. It should give you driving directions from your house. This is to the state park we are staying at on friday night. The portion of the trail we are hiking is about a 20 minute drive. http://www.visitpa.com/cgi-bin/mqcustomconnect?POI1name=Parker+Dam+State+Park&POI1streetaddress=28+Fairview+Road&POI1city=Penfield&POI1state=PA&POI1zip=15849&var1=814-765-0630&width=372&height=265&POI1lat=411987&POI1lng=-785091&dll=411987,-785091 2. You most certainly can. There are a few places you can park you car to make Saturday's hike a lot less painful. 3. Good question. The last time I hiked this trail, I had some scotch with me, but never got a chance to drink it. I will check and let you know.” 7:39:10 AM 4/25/06 “Looking forward to the trip, dreading the drive. Are we gonna carpool again? If so I got the gas covered.” 8:26:04 AM 4/25/06 “6 hours for an overnighter is to much plus it is right around the corner from our AZ trip. sorry. have a great time. WK and jimmy san better show up for the Ithaca trip!!!” 8:28:46 AM 4/25/06 “Hey if we could car pool that would be awesome! I will really try to get on board this one.” 8:32:41 AM 4/25/06 “I am a maybe on this trip but with gas prices going skyhigh I can't afford the long drive. I am hopeing someone from this area will want to carpool. I want to get up to Pa for a hike oneday” 8:36:56 AM 4/25/06 “I am in for the carpool Jim.” 8:54:54 AM 4/25/06 “It would be a good pre hike for my NCT trail trip :D But, we have to strap WK to the hood....” 8:59:06 AM 4/25/06 “So that's three in my car. I can seat one more. If we could figure out how to pick up/drop off Ewker we would have a full boat. Sounds like a fun drive now! mapleleaf: What's this about an Ithaca trip? I must have missed something.” 11:23:52 AM 4/26/06 “JS, Tenn is a just a tad out of the way. Thanks for thinking about me though. I will probably miss this trip” 11:38:28 AM 4/26/06 “if you could get to indy or ft wayne we could get you there. that's not far out of the way for us and not too far for you to drive” 11:46:06 AM 4/26/06 “He could go and crash at Scott's place.” 11:47:28 AM 4/26/06 “Thats an idea! Is there a train or something that can get you to indy ewk?” 12:44:27 PM 4/26/06 “I sure hope I get to drink some of Wounded Knees scotch this time.” 12:47:41 PM 4/26/06 “You know, it amazes me how much liquor that WK can consume without getting drunk lol! Dont let him fool you- he may look like a lightweight but he aint!” 12:49:19 PM 4/26/06 HEY WOUNDED KNEE “Isn't it about time you started looking at the weather forecast for this trip?” 6:13:49 PM 7/17/06 “Why? The last time the Knee'ster did the Quehanna, the forecast was 100% chance of severe thunderstorms with high winds, and this was just a few weeks after a hurricane already damaged the area. I don't think ANY forecast will stop these 6:48:15 PM 7/17/06 “So true Pennsy!” 7:50:44 AM 7/22/06 “Okay, so I have booked a site at Parker Dam State Park for Friday evening for those of us that have a drive ahead of us or those who wish to come out a little early. We will be on site 63, and it is registered under the name of Brian Beanblossom in case anyone arrives before us. Below is a map of the campground as well as the home page for Parker Dam State park. Depending on when we get started in the morning, Jim, Nicole and I should arrive in the mid afternoon hours. I know of a few places we could gather at nearby for a beer and dinner if we would like. Please let me know if you have any questions. http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/maps/parkerdam_camp.pdf http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/parkerdam.aspx” 9:51:55 AM 7/25/06 “Almost forgot, if you want a free map of the trail, call Parker Dam State Park and ask for one. 814-765-0630 Map has two sides (western and eastern) We will be parking at the Wykoff Parking area in the center of the map and hiking east on the blue blaze (Big Springs Draft) then hooking up with the Orange blaze (Quehanna trail) and hiking north toward Arch Spring.” 10:38:36 AM 7/25/06 “hey WK, you wanna call my wife and beg her to let me go to this one LOL...i'm gonna give her a shot but i doubt it with the baby and that's the same weekend of our anniversary” 10:42:26 AM 7/25/06 “I see the game you are trying here...I used to do this all the time as a kid.” 10:48:09 AM 7/25/06 “what's that?” 10:56:55 AM 7/25/06 “I would show up with a friend when asking my parents to do something. This way they would look like bad guys in fromt of the friend by not allowing me to do something. It worked everytime.” 11:01:09 AM 7/25/06 “WK, I am still hoping to make this one. I jsut dont know yet though. I am still working crazy hours.” 3:55:04 PM 7/25/06 “I hear ya! Want me to call you in sick? I hope you guys can make it.” 4:21:49 PM 7/25/06 “I'm still interested” 6:28:22 PM 7/25/06 “WK, that would be swell thanks LOL.” 7:13:06 PM 7/25/06 “Excellent Earth! I hoppe you can make it as well.” 9:42:26 PM 7/25/06 “are you still planning a 20-mile day on Saturday? I have a friend from work who is thinking of coming.” 3:01:15 PM 7/26/06 “We will see how it goes. I would like feedback from those that are attending regarding this as well as a start time. Jim, Nicole and myself are staying at nearby Parker Dam state park so the start time for us is not as important to those close that will be driving in on Saturday. I am flexible with the mileage. If I remember right, we have only one real rough section to concur on Saturday, straight uphill, but that is it. Let me know what you think.” 3:21:55 PM 7/26/06 “i am ready... let's go now!” 12:44:55 PM 7/31/06 << back to Quehanna Trail page
