we didn't get a ton of rain, so stream crossings shouldn't be too bad.

Hey, were you guys still on Chicago time? I hit the trail at 9:30 local time, and it must have been an hour or two earlier for you if that was the case.

I mentioned a bear because one jumped out of a tree about 200 yards shy of Arch Spring! And I got to stand behind a shrub and observe a fox for at least 5 minutes. He was running around and sniffing/checking everything out. There was a big ole owl at the top of Laurel Draft too. I imagine I would not have seen them if I had taken my camera.

Saw an old test bunker on old hoover road too. Did you guys know that entire area was a secret test area for technolgy during the cold war? I guess the bunker shouldn't have suprised me so much.

I saw the sun fo rabto 5 minuteds around 3:30 PM and that was it too. I don't think it broke 70 degrees, or at least stayed real close all day. Great weather. If it had been hotter I would have crashed at Arch Springs, but I figured some women from Clearfield got ahold of you and you might have chnaged your plans - so I continued to punish my feet for a 20 mile day back to to the car. It went well, from my viewpoint now that I have showered and am about to jump into bed. If you guys ever come back this way I will try to meet up for the post hike activities in order to stay in the loop.

Just got back. Had a great weekend and got soaking wet in the process.

Thanks again for the drive Jim! John, it was great meeting you and I hope we get to hike again soon.

Sorry we missed you Patrick. WE got a bit of a late start from Parker Dam and I forgot how long it actually took to get over there. Like you we saw a lot of wildlife.

I will post a trip report tomorrow.

Bad Trip Report
We drove there in a car and it was a long drive for us Chicago folks. We never saw Patrick19 and BackSlacker showed up soon after Wounded Knee and I did. We camped at the DCNR campsite that night and ate in town. Uneventful night. I did not like the local beer... can't think of the name but it began with a "Y". It tasted like there were no hops in it... watery. Blech! Perhaps a bad keg or bar. We were 45-60 minutes late and apparently missed Patrick19 by 15-30 minutes. We hiked for the entire day put never saw him. There was a beotch of an uphill section but generally it was fairly easy hiking, perhaps a little rugged but quite nice. The streams crossings weren't difficult as the streams were low. We saw some animals (Elk, rattlesnake, etc). I lagged behind everyone as I kept stopping and gorging on blueberries... outstanding flavor... thin but plentiful enough that I could easily gather handfuls. Wintergreen was everywhere (I picked and chewed the leaves all day) and I even got to eat a few pithy/red wintergreen berries. Also there were patches of blackberries which I ate but these were not plentiful. Basically I pigged out on berries. We camped at the ruins of an old stone house. We saw Patrick19's name written in sticks on the ground since. He apparently split. We had a huge campfire and ate dinner. It was a quiet night (only a few animals near the camp) and it rained heavily early the next morning for the rest of the day. We hiked to the car the next day, taking a wrong turn but managing to make it back before lunch time. We all got pretty wet. We drove to Clearfield and ate huge hamburgers at Denny's Beer Barrel Bar. It was great trip and thank you Wounded Knee for the outstanding planning.

Great to meet Jimmy San and Wounded Knee, very nice hike through hemlock groves, meadows and evergreen ridges. Plenty of water along the trail, and near the camp site. Saturday night's fire was kickin' and we all had a good time BS'ing around it. The campsite was kinda spooky at night with it's stone structures, walls and root cellar, but that only added to the ambiance. Sunday morning as almost always, I was the first one up, but was the last to finish breaking camp. I'm such a lollygagger in the morning hangin' out drinking coffee. The rain really came down as we where leaving camp, and we had quite a fun slog back to the car. Great burgers at the post-hike meal, and a great trip despite the rain. We didn't melt or anything! Pics to come soon when I get the time, although I didn't get to take too many.

Problem is when I am caffeined up I can't sit around too long. I guess if I had waited another 30 minutes we would have met up. I was way too wired to nap in the car. Glad you guys made it through the weekend safely. Didn't know if you'd see my PAT sign. Love that site. Glad I didn't get wet Sun AM though.

Next time plan on a cold weather trip on the Laurel Highlands Trail. It is the same drive distance, just east of Pittsburgh. It is good for group trips because the shelters have fireplaces and it gives you a "cabin-like" experience. I'll post a weekend on that trail in December too.

Talk about deja vu conk! Sunday was exactly the way it was on Saturday evening. It started raining very early in the morning on Sunday, let up and few times, then picked back up and fell the rest of the day.

This is the only trail I have hiked on, since I started doing this, where I have been soaking wet both times by the end.

Working on trip report now. Picture will be posted tonight.
