Only about 7,000 since May, 2005

What does '(sobo)' mean?

Southbound.

OK I guess that's not enough.

AT thru-hikers, and other hikers of the long distance trails in general, are usually classified into two groups, "Northbound" (nobo) and "Southbound" (sobo), depending on which direction they're going.

So is there also an eabo and a webo?

I suppose there would be if there were any any major east/west trails, but there aren't any that are as popular as the AT, PCT, and CDT.

The man has had quite a few 40+ mile days.

BTW: This year saw the first complete through hikes of the ADT (America Discovery Trail). No accepted abbreviations yet for Atbos or Pacbos (Atlantic bound or Pacific bound).

How about this guy?
After 33,000 kilometres and 20 pair of shoes, Montrealer takes month off walkathon

A Montreal man who set out in 2000 on a charity fundraising walk around the world is taking a one-month break in Spain after completing the Portuguese leg of his expected 12-year journey. Jean Beliveau, who turned 50 and marked the fifth anniversary of his trip on Aug. 18, said he will spend Christmas in Madrid with his wife, whom he left behind along with a job in sales in Montreal. He said he has worn out more than 20 pair of shoes after walking more than 33,000 kilometres across Africa and North and South America and plans to donate the money he raises to the United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF).

If you're gonna string together miles, please make sure it's biodegradable.

Man, wouldn't you get nailed if you'd pitched in a quarter a mile thinking he'd quit after a month.

I've been following this guy's adventure ~ his mom posts occasionally on Whiteblaze. If he finishes by Dec 31st, as he plans, he'll have knocked 63 days off of Flyin' Brians Triple Crown endeavor (and Brian did a supported hike). Last I read, he had 620 miles to do and three weeks to do it in. The man is a machine...228 miles from Waynesborough, VA to Pearisburgh, VA in 5 days. I hope he makes Trail Days next year because I would love to meet the lunatic...

Brian's trip wasn't a supported hike. He used maildrops, just like any other thruhiker.

Is someone saying Brian's trip was supported?

The only reason this could be the record for the unsupported Triple Crown is that this guy is going faster than Brian.
