Very NON PC correct Johnny Knoxville mov ieView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 20 of 20 messages posted.
“Last night during South Park I saw an ad for this movie that I'm sure will have a good number of folks screaming. Don't know that I can blame them. I can't imagine it will fly.... It stars Johnny Knoxville who is playing a developmentally disabled guy who is trying to rig the special Olypmics. A comedy.” 4:55:42 PM 12/15/05 “What was offensive in the advertisement you saw?” 4:58:25 PM 12/15/05 “I found this on a Special Olympics website which was endorsing the movie: Farrelly Brothers film starring Johnny Knoxville uses humor to challenge negative stereotypes about Special Olympics Athletes” 5:00:22 PM 12/15/05 5:00:57 PM 12/15/05 “Some people are so offended at the mention of the word "black", or "retarded". That's what is sad.” 5:02:38 PM 12/15/05 “The apparent movie site (since my freakin' old POS Mac can't bring up anything beyond just the blank page... hmmm, maybe it IS just a blank page!). It's called "The Ringer." http://www2.foxsearchlight.com/theringer/” 5:02:47 PM 12/15/05 “http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/the_ringer/ Trailers. The French might be offended, but they probably won't do anything about it. last edited: 12/15/05 5:06:46 PM” 5:06:18 PM 12/15/05 “I won't be going to the movies to see this one. I love Johnny Knoxville but I have to admit that I was a bit put-off by the premise. Yeah, it was a bit offensive. But hey, it's my money and my right to either see or not see the movie.” 6:09:55 PM 12/15/05 “From the Special Olympics link above: Mark your calendars for 23 December and join in the fun by taking some time out to visit your local theater and see The Ringer. On 23 December 2005, The Ringer, a film starring Johnny Knoxville, opens in theaters across the United States and Canada. The latest fearless comedy from producers the Farrelly Brothers (There’s Something About Mary, Dumb & Dumber, Shallow Hal) asks the question: Can a comedy be off-the-wall, irreverently indelicate and yet ... inspirational? The Ringer spikes the uproarious with the uplifting in a story about an ordinary man who discovers what it truly means to be “special” when he attempts to “fix” the Special Olympics. The Ringer also tells the Special Olympics story in a new way, challenging destructive stereotypes and negative thinking – especially prevalent among young people – about people with intellectual disabilities. Says Special Olympics Chairman Tim Shriver: "Beyond improving the lives of our athletes on the playing field, a key goal of Special Olympics is to change attitudes of nondisabled young people about people with intellectual disabilities, dispelling negative stereotypes. Humor can be a very effective way to reach young people and the Farrellys are masters of both." Special Olympics Florida athlete and actor Eddie Barbanell, who portrays Billy in The Ringer, says, “This movie does not mock people with intellectual disabilities. When you see this movie, laugh with us, not at us. See us as human beings and people just like you and watch us showcase our talents.” In addition to Barbanell, the film features Special Olympics Texas athletes Leonard Flowers as Jimmy – the athlete to beat, Janna Ambort as Karen, Nicole Bradley as Yolie and many more athletes and volunteers from the Austin area where the movie was filmed. See the “Making of The Ringer” for more on the production of the film.” 6:12:51 PM 12/15/05 “ive worked with the handicapped in a variety of ways, and i can tell you that they defineitely have a sense of humor about themselves. i honestly believe that having a sense of humor is the human way of making a bad situation bearable” 6:21:58 PM 12/15/05 “lizs, lizs, lizs........ It is only something to get mad about and call for punishment for (non PC behavior), if the person/group doing this is an evil conservative. I'm pretty sure a left wing/Hollywood type can be given artistic licence to be as non PC as he wishes.” 6:30:24 PM 12/15/05 “hehe” 6:31:13 PM 12/15/05 “from stovestompers latest book, "how to say the same thing 100 different ways" ;-)” 6:34:33 PM 12/15/05 “It's a rip off of an old South Park episode where Cartman acts retarded so he can win some cash in the Special Opympics. Personally I find the fact that we are sold these types of rehashed, outdated, and worn out ideas over and over by Hollywood.” 6:56:42 PM 12/15/05 “Oh and one more thing...TIMMAY!!!” 6:57:09 PM 12/15/05 “It's a rip off of an old South Park episode where Cartman acts retarded so he can win some cash in the Special Opympics. Personally I find the fact that we are sold these types of rehashed, outdated, and worn out ideas over and over by Hollywood.” Nigal 6:56:42 PM The Farrelly Brothers disagree. They are sueing the South Park guy for stealing THEIR idea.” 7:00:25 PM 12/15/05 “Lay politics aside. Johnny Knoxville is #&%!$ing hilarious.” 9:15:12 PM 12/15/05 “http://www.killermovies.com/r/theringer/articles/5724.html Here is an article about what I was talking about. May not be sueing, but they are upset. LOL” 9:24:28 PM 12/15/05 “In the ad, at the end, they show an apparently retarded guy saying something like "Bring (or use) protection." Maybe that's a bad outtake for the purpose of advertising (he could have been talking about kneepads or a helmet), but that totally turned me off cuz I took it as him saying, wear a rubber, would you want someone like me? That's the way it played out for me in the ad. And that made me sick.” 10:08:51 PM 12/15/05 “special olympics are advertising this as a good movie to see... it's given a lot of handicapped people jobs, working in this movie.... i can't wait to see it.” 6:47:10 AM 12/16/05
