WOW!
Nice op-ed piece. He really exposed the root of America's problem.

I thought this quote was very telling:

"Historian Charles Freeman points out that in Europe, "Christian thought... often gave irrationality the status of a universal 'truth' to the exclusion of those truths to be found through reason. So the uneducated was preferred to the educated, and the miracle to the operation of natural laws."

Remember, Europe was mainly a theocracy at that time.

Thanks for the good read Tilt. Have fun shopping in Idiot America over the holidays.

If America is filled with idiots, we've done a pretty good job as being the greatest country on Earth and the envy of other nations. Weird how we stumbled upon this situation as a collective bunch of God-frearing idiots.

To those who have eyes to see
1 Corinthians 3:18-20 (New American Standard Bible)

Let no man deceive himself if any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God For it is written, "He is the one who catches the wise in their craftiness;

and again, "The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are useless."

----------------------------------

"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are saved it is the power of God. For it is written: 'I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.'

"Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

"For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men." - 1 Corinthians 1:18-25

No, I just have the urge to vomit.

I never post on fuego because I think it always descend into something ridiculous. My beliefs are my beliefs and yours (general) are yours. So be it. Opinions. Let it lie. Who cares? Instead, it descend into a mini TT play of this article.

I am neither religious nor overly political, but I am also not arrogant or condescending enough to write an article like that one. Apparently we can only hope to be as intelligent and as enlightened as the author someday. If I ever do, please shoot me.

I don’t like the way that religion is approached so much like a political movement and how the smallest belief has to be made into a holy crusade and must be spread so everyone believes as they do. I think the only way they could make themselves any worse is if they simply called the ones who don’t see things as they do idiots.

Idiot! Just kidding, I just read the thread. I have to give props to Nigal for this post. I don't quite agree, but it was very well put.
I'm a lot more sympathetic to folks who are embarassed by the Campaign to make America stupid, but simply dismissing ideas by labelling ideas as "stupid" is scant improvement over labelling them heretical, un-Patriotic or un-Christian.

It goes the other way as well Ped. Imagine if some who was what I would call a liberal decided to visit a church. Do you think their political views are going to play into it? Of course. They are going to find the church that fits their political views rather than the one that most closely reflects biblical principles.

And then there are a huge range of views on what Biblical principles are... and the one's we think are the most accurate may reflect our "pre-conceited" notions.

It's not about who's right and wrong. The crux of it is they are going to look for a denomination that reflects their own preconcieved notions rather than one that is outside of their political views.
