The Night of the Rose Bowl

T'was the night of the Rose Bowl ...and all through the land,
All the Longhorns were stirring, even the band,
The tickets were purchased for the game, room and air...
In hopes that "Saint Vincent" would soon be there!!
The fans were tailgating from their truck beds,
While visions of a championship danced in their heads.
And Bevo in his bridle, and me in my cap...
Had just popped a cold one before the first snap.
When out on the turf there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter!!
My eyes fixed on the tunnel, and the thundering herd;
The roar of the fight song; I sang every word!!
They ran to the end zone, and knelt to their maker...
Giving thanks for TEXAS and the victory later!!
When what to my wondering eyes should appear.
Coach Mack in his glory, "THE HEAD COACH OF THE YEAR!"
And our hero from Houston that I haven't seen since'
I knew in a moment it must be "Saint Vince"!
More rapid than eagles his posse they came...
And he whistled and shouted and called them by name!
Now, Thomas! Now Taylor! Now Pittman and Sweed!
On Charles! On Griffin! Ross, Huff and McGee!
To the top of the world for a championship crown!
Now dash away, dash away, to a TEXAS touchdown!
They fought with fury! They fought with might!
They fought like champions on the championship night!
Oh! The bombs they flew, and holes blew open...
The Longhorns ran the ball just as we were hope'n.
The defense attacked, and oh, they played hard
Mack's eye how they twinkled, his dimples, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, the "Crystal ball" he did carry!
He embraced his coaches, he embraced his team
And "The Eyes of Texas" we all did sing

“I thought I'd give this a bump up, since its getting close to time.”

“I keep getting surprised this bowl season. I thought Penn. St. would crush FSU. But it took Penn. St. three overtimes to put the Seminoles out of their misery. After all, No. 22 Florida State's 8-5 record was their worst season since 1981. Florida destroyed FSU and I thought Penn St. was better than that. It doesn't look like any conference has a reason to crow this year.




Hopefully USC/Texas will be a good game, ped.

I like both teams but I'll be rooting for Texas.

HOOK 'EM HORNS!


I am getting tired of all the sports announcer pr. They keep saying that this is the most anticipated game of the century/ever/whatever. As a long time college football fan, not from my perspective.

I am so tired of the media trying to drum up emotions. They try to stir up resentment, anger, anticipation, and whatever it takes to sell their product. They're like Chicken Little playing to childish emotions. My obnoxious sports fan personna still seems on target.




Hopefully, it will be a good game.

“wow, texas just got away with a touch down that shouldn't have been...in a close game like this that might turn out to be a big deal”

“True thrifty, but Texas was on the march and close anyways. And then then UT intercepted for a second time and it was called an incomplete. USC got a field goal off that miscall and UT lost a chance to score again.

I like both teams, too. Bush and White have been exciting on offense - but Leinhart has been a dissapointment.

Fun game so far.

SS and Pixie, go take a nap!”

“Mmmmm Mmmmm Good!! Now that was a game! Even if USC pulled a miracle on their last play, I would have been happy - But this is Fantastic!

Now if only I could take some of what SS and pixie were taking and get some sleep (early day tomorrow!)”

“Great game. I thought Texas was going to be toast when they were down by 12 late in the ganme.”

“I have to admit I was worried then. I did think to myself "I still think they'll close it enough to beat the spread, but they don't have much of a chance to win."

Once they got the ball back with about two minutes left, I liked 'em to win - but I was looking for consolations there for a while.”

“While at Disneyland tonight I got to talk to a lot of Texas folks who we visiting after the game. They were pretty happy, of course. Was in line with the "Texas Pom Girls" and talked to them a bit. (On TV they were the ones wearing the chaps). Kinda cool.

I think the USC fans here are still in shock.”
