ugh “So today we got matching letters from our mortgage co. It seems that someone from DHL lost a computer reel with our financial and personal info on it. We were given the 3 credit agencies numbers and have called all our creditors and have blocked our accounts from being accessed and new accounts from being opened, plus we cancelled existing accounts and are awaiting reissue. This really sucks. the worst part is that we wont know if anyone has our stuff till they try and succeed. BUMMER!” 7:14:39 PM 12/19/05 “The mere thought of there being two birches in this world chills me to my very core...” 7:16:09 PM 12/19/05 “I had a man come to my door the other day pissed off. He stole my identity and has a negative credit rating now.” 7:31:14 PM 12/19/05 7:37:05 PM 12/19/05 Suspect already in custody: “ ”7:49:17 PM 12/19/05 “LOL Non con!” 7:51:29 PM 12/19/05 “I had my identity lifted at 18 by another female-who was arrested for underage drinking, and gave my name and SSN as ID to the cops (which is a big no-no for cops!). She was fingerprinted and photoed. She then never used my name again. But later got in trouble under her real name for things like doemstic abuse. When I went to get my CPL this past year, I was denied. Long story short, I have my CPL now, and I have legal paperwork that I have to carry with me 24/7. My fingerprints are on file with the county, state and the FBI with a file attached that is a replica of what I carry. My paperwork states that if arrested for this persons crimes, I can and will sue the police. This was done for me by the Sheriff's office in King County,WA. My paperwork contains my fingerprints, all her known names, crimes commited by state by her, etc. Not knowing was half of the problem-my name is attached to ALL of her criminal files as an alias. Fortunley it was easy to prove I wasn't her-she is 3" shorter than me, gave her real birthdate the first time and town born in. She also has different colored eyes, skin, etc. But I have a MAJOR mar on my name I will most likely never be able to fully remove-even with court orders. It affects getting jobs that require background checks-it isn't easy to get your foot in first, then tell them about the ID theft. Most places look into you first! Trust me, it isn't fun, it is part of teh reason why my health is bad this year-it eats at you-knowing that your name has been trashed.” 8:48:31 PM 12/19/05 “Iffin someone stole my identity they would give it back quickly!” 8:52:46 PM 12/19/05 “Sarbar1 wow, that sucks. Just think how great your life (and you) are compared to her. I hope you time will help heal you and your name. I wish you peace and good health for the new year.” 8:58:23 PM 12/19/05 “Oh yeah, Tango-I tell myself everytime I get whiny that I can legally carry firearms and she can't ;-) That helps a bit ;-)” 10:13:39 PM 12/19/05 sarbar1 “As Tango said, that really sucks. But have to laugh at your last post. Guess I don't want to p!ss you off! :-)” 11:02:00 PM 12/19/05 85 million “Rapid Response Is Best Defense Against ID Theft By Brian Krebs washingtonpost.com Staff Writer Friday, June 16, 2006; 2:54 PM In the past 15 months, corporations, universities and other organizations alerted more than 85 million U.S. consumers that their personal or financial data might have been compromised due to data breaches, disgruntled employees or just plain incompetence. While consumer data leaks don't automatically result in financial losses or cases of identity theft, experts say your chances of becoming a victim depend on how well you know your rights and how rapidly you spring into action. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/16/AR2006061601067.html” 1:11:44 PM 6/22/06 9:23:43 AM 6/29/06 “I awoke this morning to find my bank account cleaned out. Apparently I went on a software purchasing bender in my sleep last night. At least I left myself $8 for lunch. I can't wait for the UPS man to show up, being as I'm a big tekky and all. I wonder how long it will be until I get my money back, and if I should cancel my credit cards as well as my debit card.” 1:29:34 PM 2/16/07 “man ---” 1:32:22 PM 2/16/07 “duct...if you go to www.bbb.org they have instructions on how to contact the credit agencies to put a fraud alert out on your credit cards.” 1:34:47 PM 2/16/07 “cancel EVERYTHING!” 1:35:40 PM 2/16/07 “How do you think they got your numbers?” 1:35:51 PM 2/16/07 “Oh duct...the last three numbers on your card are kinda blurred....can you resend (LOL)... No seriously, http://clarkhoward.com/shownotes/category/6/162/331/374/ Good luck dude” 1:38:20 PM 2/16/07 “The woman from the bank only said that they're very sneaky nowadays. What I want to know is what's so great about Italian software? I have a card from Capital One and they said it's not necessary to cancel the account unless something happens with it. I'm not sure I feel comfortable with that since I don't how the information was obtained or how much info whoever did this got their hands on.” 1:45:26 PM 2/16/07 “Hope you can get this squared away without too much hassle Ductape. Sounds like you caught it pretty fast.” 1:54:15 PM 2/16/07 “The big brown truck just pulled up at my door with my new Italian computers and software. Who Hoo! j/k Sorry dude...same thing happened to me a few years ago.” 2:09:05 PM 2/16/07 “WK...if you agree to split it with me....no one will ever know.....(LOL) Duct, let me know if I can help.” 2:10:31 PM 2/16/07 “you guys are funny. this whole thing doesn't seem like too big of a deal really, but I wonder how long it will be until I have access to my money again. Being as I have no job, this is not a good time. What I don't get is that the bank is going to pay these charges. At this point they are only preauthorizations that the bank had flagged as fraudulant before I called them. Even though they know it's fraud, and I called them and confirmed, they're still going to complete the transactions. Then I have to fill out a dispute after the cycle completes. In what world does that make sense?” 2:23:07 PM 2/16/07 “When someone got a hold of my CC number they went crazy and bought a bunch of groceries and porn.” 2:34:18 PM 2/16/07 “ductape. That sucks. ++++++++++++++ Cancelled one of my cards this week because their were some odd charges. Filed disputes for the charges, but didn't want to have to do that again.” 3:45:12 PM 2/16/07 “i had this happen to me a while back. my bank gave me back the money at once... as a "loan" and then after their investigation they made the "loan" permenant. Frankly, the impact on me was pretty much nil... all I had to do was call and report it... but with a debit card if you don't do it FAST then you are SOL. different rules for debit cards from credit cards.” 5:00:46 PM 2/16/07
