“Ok, it's getting way too deep/hateful in here so I thought I'd start a thread for you to list your favorite simple pleasures that only cost about $1 or less. Here's mine

“Buying some gaudy (and cheap) clothing from the Salvation Army and then being loud and obnoxious in the local supermarket... :-) (if you shop well, this can be nearly FREE)

Answering the ringing phone on the desk at a department store (with the clerk 50 feet away): FREE

Taking the snowshoes to the local city park and snowshoeing through a blizzard: FREE!!! :-)

Logging into a library computer and emailing your friends via a FREE email address... :-)

Watching the morning sunlight (tinged in pink) hit the snow-covered trees in my front yard: FREE

Capturing a glimpse of a buck (with a rather large rack!) in my parent's front yard (and they live within less than 1/10 of a mile from a major road).... FREE!!!”

“Singing Christmas Carols in the Children's Hospital... Then having a mom ask my group of friends to sing "Silent Night" for her daughter (who had leukemia). I felt a little like the Charlie Brown Christmas--our group was really pathetically out of tune, but even so, the mom brought tears to our eyes from the appreciation she had for our singing.... It is something that even brings tears to my eyes to this day-- and a feeling that I will never forget!!!

“Watching the fawns, does & bucks wander (at separate times) through my back yard--even though we are only 1/3 of a mile from the main road! (We're in the "city" and I still can't believe a buck roams around here freely... :-) )


Scoring 5 etch-a-sketch minis (about 5 x 7 in size) for $0.70 when it was supposed to be $7.00 a piece... AND, then getting the "Scanner error" bounty when Target charged me $7.00 a piece.... The Scanner error law in Michigan says that 1) the store has to give me the difference in price between what I was charged and what it was marked (i.e. $6.30) for each of the items, and 2) on top of that you get 10 time the difference in price (up to $5.00 maximum) for 1 of the mis-marked items...

So, the store ended up paying me $1.50 for the 7 etch-a-sketches!!!

(I love the scanner error law!)
