Oh yeah. I was gonna post this on the "Sick from SADS" thread.

I've been looking forward to this. Celebrate!

What????
How much longer? Am I going to have to work more hours too or just the usual 8 hours? Is this going to make the week longer too? Eventually? What will this do for TV programming? Will a store that's normally open 24 hours have to stay open longer too?

Come on man! Don't leave us hanging!!

Nonconformist, scientists are thinking the days will be about an hour longer this year than last. Starting tonight we'll have a 13 o'clock. But only once a day. Sorta cool, huh? Oh, the global warming. Oh, the global warming.

good. more sun = warmer temps!
except that for the next three months we get to live in a freezer.

About 14 hours of darkness tonight, at my latitude. Yay for longer days on the way!

Sunrise at 8 and sunset at 4 today. Yup, looking forward to those longer days !

We were off to a pretty good start in November with some cool days and even a bit of snow in the city of Vancouver, but starting this week we're getting pounded by that 'Pnieapple Express' out of Hawaii with temps into the 50s and nothin' but rain, rain, rain !

I'm with helinka, longer days means more sun. More sun means warmer temps. But, first day of winter means colder temps.
I don't get it!

It must be either a Communist conspiracy or a side effect of Kitrina.

We are closest to the sun at this time of year, but the northern hemisphere is tilted at its farthest away from the sun at this time of year (which is why people in northern Alaska have no sun for the next month). Because of that steep angle less of the sun's energy hits us. On the flip side, the southern hemisphere is tilted well into the sun, so they get summer.

temps have less to do with the amount of sunlight and more to do with the angle of the suns rays...that's why there's more sun in the middle of winter but it's colder

and that's your mr wizard lesson for today

damn, tech beat me to it

I always just thought the sun shrunk in winter. And now I read, no? We're just tilted? At least now I know the veering isn't from my truck being out of alignment.
