Day Hiking
Cades Cove, Smoky Mountains National Park, TN
I am heading down to Cades Cove on 12/26/2005 and will be there until 12/30/2005. I am planning on doing some day hiking in that area, probably to Abrams Falls and some of the other trails around there. If anyone else is gonna be down there maybe we could head out.
See Ya later.

Well, seeing as how I gave the Gatlinburg report yesterday, I decided to test my luck and go to Cades Cove this evening.

I got over there right at 7 PM. From the entrance to Cable's Mill, I saw 4 cars. I had the entire place to myself. Beautiful sunset at one point in a break in the clouds. Then a 4000 foot overcast came crawling around Gregory and Rocky Top. It was pretty cool to watch. Just took my time and really enjoyed the ride.

There were about a dozen cars in and around Cable's Mill and on the way out I saw only 4 more vehicles. Not once did I have to stop to watch someone gawk at a crow.

Sometimes I have to wonder what life has in store for me, but if it involves more days like this, I am pretty sure I will enjoy living it.

Enjoy it while you can. But no one deserves it so good. It will change. Be prepared.

Yeah, the lull is enjoyable right now, but by the second week in October, the traffic will be horrendous. However, after the peak leaf season, Mondays and Tuesdays are actually pretty quiet through the Christmas season. My favorite time is mid January to about the second week in April.

i love the cove on the days they shut it down to vehicle traffic...my wife and i went out there on one of those mornings...there was a light rain and very few people out there

Isn't it great to have places like Cades Cove in your backyard? You take Rich Mountain road out of Ace Gap back or? Nice!

Looped the Cove. Briefly thought about coming out via Rich Mtn Road, but seeing as how I had the entire cove almost to myself, I just enjoyed the drive around.

I took someone up to Cades Cove today and we saw 5 bears within a 100 feet of the vehicle. The tourists were all out of the cars with their cameras but we didn't get to see a good mauling.

It was a great day in the Cove today.

Yeah, I thought, wouldn't it be funny if I just stepped out of the jeep and threw a handful of Oreo's up where the tourists are standing, lol.

smearing a dab of peanutbutter on their @ss when they're not looking always works too...the tourists that is, not the bears

Looks like it's controlled burn day in Cades cove, judging from the web cam aimed in that direction. Cool.
