Video for the nerds.

It's amazing how many Japanese people walk around with cameras (and camera phones).

Whoa! That is soooo COOL.

And every nerd who has no clue about what good science fiction is all about wants one.

Is that the new issue? Must be arctic wear.

Stanislaw Lem is my favorite author, CB. I can give you a list of "must read" Lem novels if you want. I have read most of them about 5 times. He is first with second place split between Phillip K Dick and Ursula LeGuin. Peace on Earth is an excellent book.

remember that his books are written in polish and translated to english. it's hard to believe as you read them that this is the case. the prose is so clean. I am sure this says something about his writing in polish, but not knowing anything about the polish language I can't say what that is. all the translations are certainly excellent but I suspect when it comes to translations you have to have something GOOD to start with or you won't get something GOOD at the end. GIGO...

I was on a John Ringo kick. read most of his stuff, including the "March Upcountry" colaboration with David Weber. Now I am reading the Honor Harrington series, but took a break to read "Starship: Mutiny" by Mike Resnick

I'll check the Lem books, which I haven't read. And out of the multitude of SF I've read, Hyperion, by Dan Simmons, comes to mind: http://www.dansimmons.com/index.html This guy is eclectic, to say the least.

Read The Cyberiad by Lem if you are a freak for math and science in SF novels. Brilliant! I highly, highly recommend The Futurological Congress as well (quick read) as well as Fiasco and Memiors Found in a Bathtub.

I would start with Cyberiad and Futurological Congress if I were to offer two recommendations.

Oh, and of course, Solaris. That is sort of his most well known book because of the movie but the movie was really not a very good reflection of the book.

I like Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan series. Corny at times but very enjoyable.

I started my son reading his first Lem novel as a result of this thread. He is in 6th grade and I thought he might be a bit young for the stuff... some of his books are pretty complex reading. I figured why not push him, as I usually do, to do things harder than he is capable of. Well he is devouring the book and while I think a lot of it is lost on him the key is that he is doing more the he thought he could do, is thrilled with himself, and he loves the book and wants to read more of the novels. Another Lem fan in the works... :)

thanks. that looks cool. I read the script for The Island recently and enjoyed it. Of course, I had already seen the movie and it was interesting to see how the movie was different than the original script.

This sucks. They don't have Rudy. I wanted to short out my keyboard with tears. Looks like I'm gonna have to drink a lot of Gatorade instead.

Gee, thanks for the link. Like we didn't know there were script sites out there. It's like posting a link to CNN - "hey everyone check out this great new site for news!"
