Yea, I'll take a Friday off and drive up.
I could be at a trailhead before dark.

I'm signed up as a maybe for the Jan 14-15 Savage Gulf trip but your hike is much closer. I do want to go somewhere that weekend because that next Monday is a holiday for me so I don't need to kill myself driving back home Sunday.

Either weekend before or after is fine with me also. He11, I just want to get OUT!

Are yall thinking Cheaha or Sipsey?

My wife and I are taking a 4 day weekend trip together sometime in Jan so I might be a no-go, but will follow the thread.

High mile days don't work so well with the days being so short, LOL.

I know little to nothing about the trail so plan what ever you want and I'll show up.

I don't know. My wife and I had talked about this trip being a substitute for a Jan hike. We're trying to do less is more and have a weekend or two at home this year. Last comfy weekend at home for us was in mid Sept. I suspect my best chance will be late Jan.

With Cheaha there is a good 17/18 mile loop (it's the one DDX tried last weekend) and you can turn it into a figure 8 route that can give you around 30 miles. The 30 number is from memory because I can't recall where an intersection is. It might be 33.

You can also do some shuttle hikes along the Pinhoti north of I-20 that would be good.

If I can't go then I'll at least pass along what I know of the area. Also, I might be able to come for the day on a Sat. I live 1 hr from most all of those TH's.

mid Jan, embear.

bitpusher was making noises about a quick Savage trip mid week before new years.

I keep pokeing him with a stick about it, but I don't think his wife has said he can go yet.

Let's see, a trip with embear with two guys that think she's a goddess.
Both of us might be to bashfull to even speak to you. ;-)
Maybe you would need to fart first thing so we could think of you as one of the guys. ;-)

SS - do you know how to tell when an engineer is extroverted? They look at your shoes while they talk to you.

I can see you and bit chatting with em as you each alternate looking at her shoes then your own shoes.

I’m sorry to be abrasive, but what does this have to do with politics or religion?

Perhaps you all could find a forum that caters to your interests.

We coule do that 18 mile loop over Fri-Sat-Sun. If we get there Late Friday we can hike 2 miles to get to the top of the ridge at the intersection of Odum Trail and the Pinhoti is a clear area to camp and a nice stream for water. Leaves us 16 miles to trek Sat-Sunday. Except for the first 5-6 miles the rest of the hike is pretty easy and the mileage goes by quick. How long is the drive to Cheaha?

Drive to Cheaha from where? For SS maybe? The Cheaha TH will be about 1:45-2:00 from the Hoover Galleria. This is a landmark SS uses from time to time.

Say, this isn't a private trip is it? 'Cause G00SE and I are looking for a place to hike MLK weekend that's close to home. If you wouldn't mind having us along, that is.

DDX - I'll just have to see what weekend yall pick and what I can negotiate at home. I'd say I'm doubtful but will follow along in case the wind blows the right way.

Scully, this will be a little closer for you than Jericho was. It's off I-20. The nearest town is Anniston, AL. The TH's are about 2 hrs from Atlanta.

I saw that when I mapquested it. Looks like less than a 4 hour drive.

Just one question. Is it a dog-friendly trip? We've a new member of the family that we'd like to bring along.

SS,

he's cool as long as he's with us. And he's always with us.

DDx,

I don't know how he'll take the smoking but he's used to all the rest at home along with belching and farting. I don't really know how he'll take it coming from a guy though. It'll be interesting to find out.

So, I'm not really familliar with much in Alabama so the more details you can shovel my way the better.

AShland is at the far south of the pinhoti. Depending on where yall start I can get you there.

If you start at Cheaha you'll take I20 to east on Oxford and exit at US431S. Go about 5 miles and then take a right at a gas station. The sign says to turn to Cheaha. Follow the signs. It's another 25-30 minutes from this location. SS, it'll take you a good bit more time to go through Auburn...I think.
