trails are on the topo, just no campsites.. you can coordinate them, no? :D hint: you can use MARKs on the mapper.

NG or whomever make trail maps for the Porkies.

i have no idea how to use the mapper website. all i know is i went to the porkies on mapper, and i saw no trails

you can use MARKs on the mapper.

carp river trail was fabulous. you need to register at the visitor center. you do not need to reserve camp sites but you should camp where there are bear poles and hang your food or use a bear canister.

mapper basically works like all the others. on the upper right you have mapping choices.. one of them being the topo. on the toolbar on the lower right you have a button that says "Mark" on it. it throws a mark in a center of the map.. everything is center based.. there is a cross hair there.

so, coordinating with the PDF map, you can throw down marks at the campsites and figure out how you want to hike it..

bing.com maps let you lay down a "trail" so you can measure pretty accurate distance.. no profile though.

if you decide on something, i can make you a profile of the trail with the software i have on my computer.

oh, and my maps are usgs maps. i got them printed online at mytopo.com. You can pan/zoom maps and then have them print them for you in color on waterproof paper. those were the maps i had of the routes in colorado this last august.

Crash, here is a link to mytopo.com... this is the map i printed out. you can save your maps and then link to them later if you want to reprint them. I am shocked they go back this far... it says "share this map" so i bet you can view this without registering.

i think i found the map you are talking about. is there a way to print the map so that it is not compressed onto one page?

yes. you pay the company in the link 14 bucks and they print it out on waterproof map paper.

it's a usgs map. you had said you wanted a topo. there is a trail map you can download, but i am sure you have this already. it only has trails, roads, camp sites, etc. i would say for hiking in the porkies it's 99% of what you would need.

The trails in the Porkies are all marked well enough you really don't even need a map....I've hiked most of the trails up there with nothing more than the map you can get at the visitors center..
