It's been a tough week... my gear was s tolen :(

“Some jerk broke into my camper shell on my truck and took 3 Rubbermaid tubs. In one I kept car repair/safety stuff like jumper cables, etc. In the 2nd one I had food. And in the third I had about $600 worth of backpacking and camping gear :( Not to mention it's probably going to be at least $100 to fix or replace my camper shell door. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to me :p”

“&#%^#&#@, I am sorry. My vehicle was broken into about 2 weeks ago, so I can relate. In my case, I determined it wasn't worth it to file a claim so I had to "eat" the costs to repair / replace. Fortunately, I didn't have any of my BP gear in it at the time (whew!)

My car was broken into in a motel parking lot in Bakersfield a few years back.. Lousy.

They left our sleeping bags in the back seat all spread out.. like we had them... for airing out after a trip... it was morning and pack up time before we noticed the gear beneath was gone. cooking stuff, food, lights, etc. They left behind their screwdriver and a few odds and ends, so they must have been interupted. Cops were unhelpful. Motel people were annoyed... at US not at theft.... we left REALLY mad at the world.

the anger and sadness you feel from the theft will be replaced with the thankfulness and joy you feel from having your gear replaced by TT "strangers"

“Sorry to hear about the break-in. :-( Thinkbubelz & I had a car broken into while in Philadelphia in 1998. We felt so violated... Thinkbubelz' brother had passed away a few months before and the thieves stole his brother's jacket. Irreplaceable--(we didn't care about anything else, but it is hard to accept it when something of sentimental value is snatched away from you.)

Unfortunately, we are still pretty new to backpacking, so we don't have much extra right now... I hope they find the people who took your things!!! I guess crooks never have any sense, or they wouldn't be out stealing stuff.... (Another time, we had our car broken into and the only thing they stole was the little cigarette ash holder with about $2 of change!)”

And my biggest irk about somebody stealing my gear tub was they probably didn't even know what half of what was in it was :p Only a backpacker would know what most of it was for. The person probably ended up throwing most of it away :(

My boyfriend thinks it was probably some kids. They did a number on my camper shell door, they wrenched and bent up the entire bottom of it. An experienced thief probably would've found an easier way in...”
