I disagree with him on many political issues, but he seems fundamentally decent and competent as far as I can tell. One thing that cracks me up is that he and others seem to act like it was an amazing thing for him to get elected governor as a Republican in liberal blue State Massachusetts. What most people don't know is he is our fourth consecutive Republican governor (three elected as Governor, one promoted from Lt. Governor when her predecessor left office). The reason is that the State Democratic party has long had a monopoly on power in the State Senate and State Hourse and many of us hope that a competent Republican governor will provide a Republican Governor will be counter balance to the corrupt Democratic monopoly. I find it hard to vote for a Democrat foe governor of Mass. We haven’t had one since Dukakis. Recently, I've voted Republican or 3d party for Mass Governor.” 5:24:32 PM 1/04/06 “God Damn those liberal Blue States trying to maintain a balance of power. When will you all learn that you can only obtain supreme domination with an entirely red empire? I voted for Mitt, but don’t tell any of the Neo-Cons. It would only confuse them.” 8:49:58 AM 1/05/06 “Hey mjc, where ya been? Good to have ya back but I think you'll only be half as much fun without your buddy Sarge. LOL!” 8:51:51 AM 1/05/06 “Hello Nigal, I have been and I still am very busy. I am going to have to spend some time catching up on TT. Please, don't tell me sarge is dead again or even worse banned. What will I ever do?” 7:38:39 AM 1/06/06 “He's banned. Ped, I like your thinking but do you think just maybe, possibly this confirms my assumption that there is little difference between democrats and publicans? I await your apology. 9:03:38 AM 1/06/06 “LOL! I think the differences are often exaggerated. You definitely can't judge a politician just by the party label (that s/he has one is as telling as which one it is). There were times I voted all third party or write in candidates, figuring that the two party system just forced us to chose between the lesser of two weevils or between Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber. When I was a kid we had a Republican Senator who was Republican because he ran for the nomination in both parties and won the Republican nomination. The Bush administration has increased the differences in my eyes, on a national level. Right now, I see the Democratic Party as the conservative party - opposing change, and the Republicans as the more radical party. I guess if things continue in the Republicans' direction, the Democrats might become the reactionary party.” 11:25:53 AM 1/06/06 “BOSTON --Days after calling on his party to exhibit higher ethical standards, Gov. Mitt Romney said the Republican Governors Association would donate to charity $500,000 in contributions it received from a donor entwined in the investigation of Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Romney, a potential 2008 presidential candidate and the newly elected chairman of the RGA, said the association will give the money to American Red Cross chapters in five hurricane-ravaged states. The RGA had received donations in that amount in October 2002 from a public affairs company owned by Michael Scanlon, Abramoff's business partner. "When influence peddling is alleged, a political institution like the Republican Governors Association wants to be above any possible shadow of complicity," the governor said Wednesday in an interview with The Associated Press. [...] Romney said an internal review, triggered by questions about the donations on Tuesday from the AP, deemed the donations legal. But he and Gov. Sonny Perdue of Georgia, the RGA vice chairman, decided to split them equally over two years among Red Cross chapters in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas and Florida. The move allows Romney and the RGA to avoid questions about the contributions while they are trying to help Republican governors win elections in 36 states this fall. And while the divestiture will take at least $250,000 out of RGA coffers this year in the run-up to those elections, Romney refused to swear off future contributions from lobbyists or their corporations to replace the lost funds. He also said he would continue to travel occasionally on corporate aircraft, as he did in December when he flew to an RGA meeting in California on a Gulfstream jet owned by Pfizer Inc., the New York-based pharmaceutical firm. Massachusetts is currently debating a health care overhaul, although Romney said Pfizer is not a party to the deliberations. Way back in 2002 our chimp in chief said he was not concerned with Osama Bin Laden. It is part of the official record. I still get strip searched at the airport but we are not concerned with Bin Laden? I am so sick of this wimp leading our country. Whoever wins in 2008 should have grave concearn for those that caused 911. It is time they are brought to justice. Nearly six years and all we have to show is thousands of dead American soldiers in the wrong country. How have we not impeached this president? "I truly am not that concerned about him." http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/03/20020313-8.html last edited: 4/29/07 7:43:11 AM” 7:41:15 AM 4/29/07 WTF?!! “[Romney] also criticized people who choose not to get married because they enjoy the single life. "It seems that Europe leads Americans in this way of thinking," Romney told the crowd of more than 5,000. "In France, for instance, I'm told that marriage is now frequently contracted in seven-year terms where either party may move on when their term is up. How shallow and how different from the Europe of the past." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/05/AR2007050501081.html” 6:23:34 AM 5/09/07 “As opposed to certain Democratic leaders who have a marriage that everyone including their Cat (now owned by a former worker) and Dog (who was thrown out when his usefulness was over).....knew was a freaking sham? Yeah good stable ground for this argument Vile baby....but then Herr Shicklegruber was your pattern right?” 9:12:53 AM 5/09/07 “Actually this "everyone including their cat... knew" mirrors some of the German Corporal's propoganda tactics. If you repeat it often enough with an air of certainty, who cares about evidence?” 9:31:38 AM 5/09/07 “On another note, it is sad to see Romney reinvent himself to please Pat Robertson, et. al. While he was disappointing as governor, he struck me as a basically decent and competent guy who believed in hard work and honesty, and had a small government "live and let live" philosophy.” 9:39:18 AM 5/09/07 “He would never win the Republican nomination that way.” 10:00:01 AM 5/09/07 “Flip....................Flop Romney. You nailed it, Ped.” 10:01:13 AM 5/09/07 “In 2004 there was a democrat presidential candidate (I don't remember his name, now) who flip-floped on a DAILY basis. That seemed ok with the the libs, or at least they didn't seem to have any problem with it. Now you're all excited to get after this guy. The changes I've seen would seem to be more a case of changing views over time rather that changing to the audience of the day. Course that was way back in 2004, so it's really off limits for discussion in 2007.” 1:44:37 PM 5/09/07 “I thought my point was obvious - they don't really contract for seven year marriages in France. Mitt just pulled that one out of thin air.” 8:48:58 PM 5/09/07 “Violin - since when did we stay focused on the post atop the page instead of reacting to whatever post we are thinking of at the time. I'm sure there was some French guy somewhere who had a seven year marriage contract. BTW: I was thinking No Prob had it down to a formula, now I'm sure of it. Hats off to a continuing elegant satire of right wing distraction tactics.” 8:57:38 PM 5/09/07 “Mitt fits right in with the Right: He changes his tune with what ever which way the wind blows. The guy lead one of the most liberal states in the Union. He had a hand in making it that way. Same old Republicans: What can I say to you today that will get you to vote for me tomorrow.” 10:59:45 PM 5/09/07 “No more french talk , they're so dumb, they've missed all the fun in Iraq.” 12:48:29 AM 5/10/07 “"Same old Republicans: What can I say to you today that will get you to vote for me tomorrow.” Isn't it fair to say this is a symptom of all politicians though? Democrats could hardly be called steadfast either.” 4:46:06 AM 5/10/07 “I distrust politicians in general.....face it there is noone left with a spine.” 8:57:19 AM 5/10/07 “I agree with Nigal and XL isn't far from the mark here. Too often pols play the same game with the public that my dogs do with me when they hike or walk anywhere off leash. They try to figure out which way I'm going and get out in front as if they are leading. My dogs are better at it. It's sad to see all these Dems who bent over for Bush when they needed to make a stand muck things up now in an attempt to pretend they can stand for something. I'm still to'd with Kerry (my state's junior senator) for writing Bush that blank check on Iraq because he thought his 2004 candidacy required it.” 11:32:13 AM 5/10/07 “"I agree with Nigal and XL isn't far from the mark here.” pedxing 11:32:13 AM 5/10/07 I do hope everyone has a full appreciation for what was nearly an implosion of apocalyptic proportions. Had Ped fully agreed with both XL and myself we'd all be ash and dust right now. We're talking a planet killer.” 5:29:04 PM 5/10/07 “I've fully agreed with XL before. And heck pointing out that the Democrats don't stand for much is one of my hobbies. If anything the Republicans have stayed with a program more than the Dems, only problem is their program is fer chit. The Dems are like the Washington Capitals to the Republican's Globe Trotters. They seem to be there more to create the appearance of opposition in order to heighten the entertainment value, or to make Carl Rove look like a brilliant coach.” 9:25:36 PM 5/10/07 ““I've fully agreed with XL before." Yeah but never the both of us at the same time. Please guard yourself from this ever happening. Our children's future depends on it. :P” 9:28:42 PM 5/10/07 “Can I avert catastrophe if I call him an ignorant bigot while I agree with him, or call you a WC Field's Jew? I don't wanna screw up creation any worse than it already is. last edited: 5/10/07 9:31:29 PM” 9:30:45 PM 5/10/07 “Tell ya what, go to the Matt the Webmaster crybaby thread, say three Hail Violins, dip your ass in the holy water and that should do it.” 9:35:09 PM 5/10/07 “It always cracks me up when the George Bush fanatics attempt to cover their asses by saying the Democrats did thus and so. So what? They automatically think the Republicans get a free ride just because Democrats are incompetant crooks as well?? Get With The Program, People. The only reason I've been voting for Democrats lately is that Republicans are worse (and that takes some doing). I assume you heard that Romney called Sharpton a religious bigot for what he said about Mormons yesterday.... Hitchens' new book seems to be having some effect! (gotta love the unplanned chaos of it all)” 9:58:04 PM 5/10/07 “Ah yes, the lesser of two evils theory. The lesser of two evils still makes the world evil. If you stop giving the two evil parties the power they will wake up. To me it's not about which one is worse but the fact they are both bad.” 4:51:59 AM 5/11/07 “I agree with everyone. Will Al Sharpton die when the planet blows up? OK, so most of us agree that politicians are not to be trusted, and that they often change political positions as they believe it will keep them in a job. I’ve known many politicians in my life in both the public and private sectors. Most of them are great manipulators although they often refer to themselves as “consensus builders” and compromisers. Let me also add that most politicians (and the voting public) have forgot that they are public servants. Watch what happens when Senator (insert name) comes to town. People will fall all over themselves treating this person as if they were royalty. I don’t believe that’s the way Thomas Jefferson envisioned our Republic. But it is a free-market, human-nature, evolution of power-seeking. My philosophy says to limit their power by reducing the size of government. I want to reduce the amount of control these people (and myself) have over the lives of others. I’m not quite sure why people who believe the way many folks here (and in the population as a whole if some polls are to be believed) do, while they keep voting for more government and for their political party to be in charge of it. According to an old bromide, what’s the definition of insanity?” 6:05:11 AM 5/11/07 “If anything the Republicans have stayed with a program more than the Dems, only problem is their program is fer chit. My dear Ped, I must heartily disagree with this comment. The Republicans won in 1980 and mostly after that by advertising they were the party of Reagan. Leading all of us to believe that they were REAGAN again...sadly they are No where close. Heck in the past few years the ONLY politician even close to the Smaller Govt, Less control was Zell Miller...A DEMOCRAT!!! There is no way a politician can keep his head in the Beltway Mentality. As a result they will eventually cross into the dark side. Therefore the less they can effect our lives the better.” 7:45:43 AM 5/11/07 “XL - I'm not disagreeing that there is phoniness among the Republicans or that they haven't changed course. I just think the Dems spin around like crazy for every time the Repubs take a 180 degree turn. Clearly the Repubs are in the hands of Big Government conservatives. Gov't spending and the size of government has increased with Republicans. Even under Reagan if I remember correctly. ON foreign policy, George Bush went from a no nation building, America needs more humility, stance in the 2000 election to a multi nation building America must re-make the world stance.” 9:34:36 AM 5/11/07 8:15:04 PM 6/29/07 “yeah it is disgusting...but did you see what the dog DID the the top of the car?” 8:29:03 PM 6/29/07 “Dogs Against Romney ![]() Hi, I'm Rusty. I am afraid of high speeds. In fact, high speeds scare the crap out of me. My owner is helping me get the word out against Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney is mean to dogs. He scares us. Help me get my message out. Interviewed on "Larry King Live," the singing Osmond family has nothing but nice things to say about Mitt Romney, according to clips posted on CNN's website. (Watch them here.) Jimmy Osmond calls Romney "a great man." Donny Osmond said Romney's candidacy has been "absolutely wonderful for the Mormon Church" because it has made many more Americans curious about their faith. And Marie Osmond had this to say when asked whether Romney should give a speech on his religion similar to the one that John F. Kennedy gave during the 1960 campaign before becoming the nation's first Catholic president: "I hope we've grown up since then. I hope people look at the person and what they've done." http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2007/11/the_osmonds_sin.html” 4:58:10 AM 11/15/07 “ ”4:59:38 AM 11/15/07 “Well there's a ringing endorsement! Correction , make that all aisles!!” 9:22:42 AM 11/15/07 “Those piles are tipping...........OH CRAP!! Bring on the Cultist!” 9:39:52 AM 11/15/07 “With polygamy shouldn't it be the Morwomen Church?” 10:15:07 AM 11/15/07 “Well on the positive side if we DID get a Mormon (DUM DUM DUM DUM - South Park) the whole polygamy thing would make us more agreeable to the Islamos.” 10:46:50 AM 11/15/07 “Romney finally wins a state. He does it by being the champion of the auto industry against pollution and gas efficiency regulations. Anybody wanna guess what kind of legislation he helped pass while he was governor? At best, the guy is a technocrat - if he stuck to talking about efficient, effective government I could respect it. But with all the ideological 180 degree turns, it hard to imagine he isn't losing some self-respect along the way.” 7:32:37 PM 1/15/08 “But with all the ideological 180 degree turns, it hard to imagine he isn't losing some self-respect along the way. remind you of anybody? ”7:37:06 PM 1/15/08
