wow! this crowd is starting to look a little rugged . . . :) I hope I can go, but I won't know for sure until the weekend before.

Is anyone planning on hiking the entire loop? If I go, it's likely that is what I'll do . . . starting from the east side of the dam . . . hike north on the east side of Brookville . . . cross the causeway . . . hike south on the west side of Brookville . . . and meet up with the group on Saturday evening. It will be a long day.

gforce, how many miles would that be on Saturday?
hubcap

2/28/06

I don't know how many miles that would be for sure, but I'll check the map tonight for approximate miles. Both times I've hiked the trail, I did the entire loop in a day with full gear . . . so it can be done as long as you start early.
gforce

i might be up for doing the whole trail

:P Damn, CB is going?
Spirit Coyote

The east side of the trail is 13.5 miles and the west side is 10.5 . . . according to the map. You have to add another .5 mile for crossing the causeway and .5 mile for crossing the dam if you do the entire trail in a loop. That would total 25 miles for the loop. So I'm guessing it would be a 17-18 mile day depending on where the camp is on Saturday night. It seems as though I remember the campsites being on the north side of wolf creek instead of the south side, but I could be wrong about that.

The trail on the west side of Brookville is much tougher than the east side. I only remember going up one hill of any size on the east side, and that's after passing the boat ramp by Garr Hill.

This is a short trip report I did after hiking the trail the first time. I had a cast on my wrist and I stopped to take a lot of pictures . . so it took about 14 hours. Last summer it took me about 12 hours . . . but I didn't take any pictures.

You guys are nuts if you want to do the 25+ miles in one day!!!

Me, im going to take the more relaxed pace :)

great...save the hard part for the second half of the day. ;^)

I will still definitely consider doing the long Sat though. I haven't been out since last summer, so I thought I would just meander and take in the sites on this trip. However, working up a lather on a distance hike has its appeal too.

wow...The whole thing
That a great idea, but I won’t be doing that in one day!!!. I’ll just stick to the posted thing and hang with the laid back bunch. I have done the whole thing but never in one day. When I first started hiking there were no trails there at all and we followed the deer paths. I once went from White Water state park all the way around the dam and ended up at Egypt Hollow on the west side, but that took four days.( remember no trails, bushwhacking all the way) There are several good campsites on the west side south of Wolf Creek and that’s where I was planning on camping Saturday night. If you guys do what Gforce has in mind ( and that sounds cool) you will be close to 20 by the time you hit camp. We will only be about 5 miles from the dam or less.
See ya later.

Salem: Upon reflection, that was just plain mean of me. I know we don't call you hiknmachine for nothin. You sure can hike.... not too bright, but a real trail mule. Seriously, when it comes to getting lost, I'm the king, but I can attest to some of your misdirectional activities. Now which way was it to the trailhead????

Thank you so much. I probably should've thought to offer my e-mail for exchanging numbers. I don't mind putting mine out there 937-673-5899. If some strange woman calls requesting directions, that'll be me, my name is Cheri. :-) Frank (clio2727) is driving and we printed directions hopefully we'll be okay. I'm really looking forward to this trip!
