Can you believe the lime, etc. that accumulates on the heating element???!? Really makes ya wonder about the water we drink!

I have a warm water vaporizer. Man, I had to clean it every 3 days or so or it won't work. All that crap on the heating element.

At least somebody told me to use white vinegar to clean it, save on those expensive cleaning products.

I ran a bleach mixture through it today, too. Probably reeks like bleach in here, but I've got a cold and can't smell or taste anything! lol

Distilled water with a tiny pinch of salt works best for humidifiers.

Just a tiny pinch of salt. Too much and it goes through water too fast. I speak from experience. :)

Yep distilled water will reduce the lime buildup.

Save the water draining from your air conditioner during the summer. It is free distilled water.

Had a boiler humidifier at work once, the kind with the electrodes inside, like the old-fashioned vaporizers. Did the bit of salt thing regularly until finally it overheated and melted the plastic around the electric terminals. The system was under contract, I seem to recall we went through several units. This was in a computer room with a lot of equipment. It would be dead of winter and we'd have the A/C and the humidifier going at the same time, working at cross purposes.
