Fall gives way to winter was a great photo among lots of ugly, totally non-scenic views of a really terrible National Park...I hate Yosemite...it's so far away, dammit! At least there are great photographers like you who document and share its beauty for Yosemite junkies like myself...thank you, WW

Quite the Variety
Beautiful photos maestro. That Ansel picto-graph exhibit is still sticking with me as well. What strikes me is that he was a regular guy with a family who loved him immensely. You could tell he was really affectionate with his grandchildren. Talk about inspiration! Well, that and the fact he had an 8x10 original on the wall for $35,000. Oh well. LOLOLOL

That was one great great outing. I miss the frost and the shivering cold already. Always a wonderful experience getting time with you in the wilderness. Can't wait for the next one.

I'll have some up in a few minutes.

Journal entry at Exavius.com: Mist of Winter

Innocence

Here my soul is yielding

As I fall down
I give all these weak hands have forsaken
As I fall down
Before you I know I’ve been broken

Here my soul is yielding

As I fall down
Before the one whose hand has reached me
Out of this fear and doubt
That’s stolen all man’s hope of knowing you

As I fall down
I give all these weak hands have forsaken
As I fall down
Before you I know I’ve been broken

Phil's progeny, one of the best trips I remember was a 5 day trip into the Superstition Wilderness Area, east of Apache Junction, one January several years ago. It's not Yosemite, but it's pretty cool. And up on the east end, you get into some forested country, with the possibility of seeing black bear.

Huge rock slide closes road to Yosemite
EL PORTAL, California (AP) -- The main road to Yosemite National Park was closed after a rock slide buried it under 300 feet of debris and threatened to knock out electricity to the park, officials said.

No one was injured in the slide about 12 miles west of the park on Highway 140, but rocks continued to fall Thursday, preventing crews from removing an estimated 250-300 tons of debris, fire officials said. It was not clear when the road would reopen.

My friend and I are looking for that camera and we are determined to find it. Maybe we will do something up there worth watching. I checked into Virtual Yosemite every day while those snow men were there and saved the images.

We went to the meadow in Ahwanee Meadow in hopes of getting in the picture. Alas, we were too close to the camera.

Have you seen those cabins? What a freakin awesome veiw! Straight on to Half Dome. How long do you have to work in the park to get one of those?

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. – A male hiker fell to his death on Saturday while climbing Yosemite's famed Half Dome, park rangers said.

The man fell from the granite monolith at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, said Yosemite National Ranger Scott Gediman.

A couple do, every year. Fortunate that he didn't take anyone else with him on the way down. Sad.

Not real clear exactly what happened. Interesting how many people climb Half Dome without getting killed.

A slip would be very unforgiving on some parts of the cable.

That would be a cool hike if you could do it without the horde of people.

You can. Late season.

If you camp at Little Yosemite Valley the night before and after you summit Half Dome, you can be up and down before the hordes hit. That is what we did and we were not wiped out from the climb from the valley floor. I don't think I would ever do Half Dome from Happy Isle.

Nice to know. How late in the season do they leave the cables up?

I dunno. I've been there in Sept. and they were still up. Maybe give them a buzz.

The cables usually come down in late October. Really depends on how early the snow fall is that year.

Oh yeah...you can miss the crowds completely by doing this hike at night for a sunrise summit. I have done it twice now and it is an amazing experience. But you would be surprised to see how many do it at night. The smell of fresh brewed coffee and the view is worth the effort.

Nice Tango! I was there Aug. 2007 on a day hike to Glen Aulin, then I decided to head on down to Waterwheel Falls. It was so beautiful--one of those good decisions. last summer I tried to repeat it as a backpack to Glen Aulin and continue down to Hetch Hetchy but fires blocked my way after GA.
