It is worlds of fun to watch everyone fight about all the politics and all that jazz....however what about the idea of getting out into the wilds to GET AWAY from all that crap?? just a thought.

One way to get in more talk about backpacking is to talk about backpacking. In fact, if you feel like starting a thread, you might consider making it a thread about backpacking. Just a thought.

Nobody talks backpacking here anymore.....in fact check out this thread started by some new guy---it has NOTHING to do with backpacking. I can't believe it:

This is a virtual campfire arwen.

At campfires, the discussion is often about things other than backpacking.

Like in real life, before a "trip", the backpacking discussion often picks up, and like in real life, when somebody has a question about gear, the backpacking discussion picks up as well.

Like in real life, when somebody returns from a trip, the backpacking discussion picks up as they inform people that weren't there what happened.

Some people are on the "injured reserve" list, and only chime in the backpacking discussion from time to time, at least until they come off the "list".

I think this site has a good mix.

i think we over-do the fuego talk on TT so that we get it out of our system and dont feel the need to do it around the real, not virtual, campfire

Ah, horse feathers, another Troll.
Another trouble-making troll! Arwen, please get on your horse and get over to filling out your User Information Page. Please include your trolling experiences, what names you have used and on what sites. Then, perhaps we'll be able to talk the same language.

Try the search routine on this site looking for "trip." You'll find more talk about backpacking than you can handle! Then check out all the information available on "Gear." BTW, have you ever been out in the woods yourself? How many bagnights did you have last year? Or do you just enjoy talking about it. Your being so critical is called "baiting" and pegs you as nothing more than a troll!

well it appears i'm not the only touche one around.....

The basic fact is i am new to this ..and was only hoping to learn a little about whats up in the world of backpacking.
if my non-mean spirited inquiry about why there appered to be mostly rather hatefull threads about politics and such makes me a baiting troll then so be it.
I get the distinct feeling there is no place for new folks around here....

arwen ignore people you dont want to hear from. You can make it so you dont see the non-backpacking threads also....

and if you cant find yourself capable of that, start your own backpacking topics here...

Where are you from arwen? Have you hiked before solo or with groups? :)

Tell me a bit about yourself.

Arwen
Have you posted a question or topic on backpacking? Ask a question about a tent or sleeping bag or place to hike and you will get more responses then by complaining about threads you choose to look at..

Folks around here actually backpack, very often with each other...because of that, the backpacking questions can often be few and far between. If someone gets new gear it is posted, if someone has a question about gear it gets posted, if someone has a trip coming up it gets posted.

Unlike many other sites, you can check the box's on top and see only gear and trip onfo...but you will miss stuff that gets thrown into the mixer. If the fuego bothers you, uncheck the box.

Welcome to the jungle.

Does it really matter if its about backpacking anyway Awen.....I'm surprised you even got any comments here anyway. I've done some backpacking and have commented on both type of threads and still get ignored. That's why lately you won't see much of me around here, there's usually not much to talk about....Maybe you've got to be "special" or something. Whatever...I don't have time for this stuff anyway.

arwen - As a child on the south side of Chicago I learned quickly to be careful, when entering a new area or playground. It required a lot of tact and sometimes some fighting to gain acceptance.

If you've been on other Internet Forums, your experiences should have taught that the same thing applies at many sites. This site is no exception. You already have several suggestions for breaking-in to this site. Another suggestion is to sign up for a trip that you can make and then start explaining your experience level and what gear you can get your hands on for the trip. Ask what else you need and the best way to get it? With a little luck you'll find some nice people here willing to help you out not only with advice, but with equipment and sometimes with transportation.

Charging in like a bull attacking chases everyone away except other bulls willing to do battle with you. It's somewhat like fun and games. Rub out backs and we will be more willing to rub yours! Good luck. Carry on.

BTW, to answer your question, "IS THERE ANYONE WHO TALKS ABOUT BACKPACKING?" Just about all of us do, at times.

Skiing in Germany was sooo different than here in the NE. Had a bit of a problem with the altitude, took a day to get used to it.
